Ok, we got only 7/10 in our prediction but during the show I made a note that Lithuania and Belgium might make it after all and Serbia miss out instead. Very sad for Montenegro, but I had my doubts for Croatia's qualification but wanted to believe in it, as I wanted strongly to believe Belarus would miss it.
But all this aside, it was a great show. Most everyone sung well, nothing went wrong apparently, it all looked beautiful, Petra did a great job, so did Lynda! The history part was hilarious, true Petra style.
The opening number was okeyish, Petra's entrance rather spectacular indeed.
As I wrote earlier all sung pretty well. Slovenia's Hannah lost it a couple of times (and made me think what it would have been had Nina Zizic sung it?), Belgium's Roberto pulled it nicely together after a little shaky start and Despina from Cyprus lost a few notes, and unfortunately those were shown in the recap. Shame. But she was wonderful anyways, no question about that. Anouk qualified with her own style, I don't think she looked at the camera once. But it didn't matter.
I was so hoping Belarus would miss it. Mind you, I have nothing against the country (last year it was one of my favorites) nor Alyona (I liked her original entry a lot) but this performance was vulgar, tasteless, vocally mediocre and she didn't seem to believe herself there was nothing hot tonight on stage. Yet... Well, proves only that leaving your skirt home, having only a top on and long legs still can take you far.
The shaking earth effect in Ukraine was pretty cool, even if I'm not sure about the giant.
One question came to mind watching this: Why so many insist having a windmachine when clearly they can't stand the wind in their eyes, for example Anouk and Despina. Or so it looked.
The butterflies worked nicely and I was pleasatnly surprised they weren't the ones we see on printed material, but more real looking ones with better coloring. Beautiful! And the postcards were great, too. Nice to see them the artists in their homes and places doing their daily things. But then I doubt Dina wanders around art museums every day....
So, the qualifies are Estonia, Denmark, Russia, Ukraine, The Netherlands, Lithuania, Belarus, Moldova, Ireland and Belgium.
Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Montenegro, Cyprus and Serbia are out. Meaning all ex-Yogoslavias are out! Now that's news!
Italy, United Kingdm and Sweden also voted in this semifinal.
