  Latvia - Carousel - That night *** One of the underdogs. Nobody seems to like this song but I find it relaxing and a lot more real than several other here. The staging is minimal and quite beautiful and fitting and if they manage to ooze some emotion and realness to this come voting time we might have a shock qualifier also thanks to Latvian diaspora. One can live in hope, right?  Romania - Ester Peony - On a Sunday *** I must say I somehow like the staging, it's a bit weird and busy but it's pretty, at least that part I can see in the video. All this said I don't really care for the song and I wouldn't be so sure this will qualify, it depends on how it comes across on screen when the voting happens I suppose... We enter my top-10 with this episode of reviews. Greece - Katerine Duska - Better Love **** Better love, better love All that we’re after Way to love, who you love Greek-Canadian Katerine (29) was internally chosen and certainly something different for Greece. She has released her debut album critics loved in 2016 and now she gets a wider audience. Her styling and video with the song create a full package and a lot depends on how they get all this work on stage and come across the tv-screens. Her voice is recognisable, the song has its identity. Elegant and dignified entry - one can't say that often of those Greek entries that did well but sometimes of those who didn't - like last year.... Let's see if singing in English helps for better love. Sadly. All according plan also in Latvia when Carousel wins ahead of Markus Riva who's left second again. Carousel is singer Sabīne Žuga and guitarist Mārcis Vasiļevskis The voting was jury + public diveded by various groups: televotes, internet, Spotify, Alfa. After two semi-final Latvia has cut the songs in half in number and we have eight songs competing tonight. There's apparently again the jury + televote + internet + spotify voting. Markus Riva is back with his 6th attempt, so is Samanta Tina and Edgars Kreilis. All in all this selection of songs is even more anonymous and forgettable than Eesti laul's for me. I don't really like any of these. Maybe the worst of them for me, Samanta will scream all the way to Tel Aviv, or will Riva get his ticket finally, with the weakest song presented so far? Or will it be Kozmens with their folk song that at least sticks out a bit and we get to hear Latvian as well but would be most likely labelled as a novelty act? Or maybe Carousel that is at least rather pleasant to listen to....
