Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Italy took its well deserved third victory - finally! - at the Eurovision song contest 2021. Over the years several other Italian entries would have been worthy winners. In this series I will go through all of them from the worst ranking to the winner s. Marco Mengoni (32) won Sanremo and went on to the Eurovision with his winning entry L'essenziale and finished sadly only 7th out of 39, but all considered that was just the beginning of something huge coming up. That year Sanremo tried the two song for each artist method and the faith had it L'essenziale was the first song to be performed, and also the last. The other one was Bellissimo , eliminated in favor of this one. The 67th Festival della canzone Italiana will start it's five nights long journey tonight at 20.30 CET with Primafestival, followed by the show itself and continued with DopoFestival... A long night! Carlo Conti will be wearing Salvatore Ferragamo as usual, Maria De Filippi at least tonight Givenchy, because Sanremo isn't only music, comedy, sports, politics, movies and everything else in between it's also fashion! Exactly 50 years ago Luigi Tenco committed suicide, on January 17, 1967. After 50 years this is one of the most tragic things ever happened in Sanremo festival. I borrow Wikipedia for this: In 1967 he took part in the Italian Song Festival in Sanremo. It was rumored, that he participated against his will. The song he presented was "Ciao Amore Ciao" ("Bye Love, Bye"), which he sang together with Dalida. Tenco allegedly committed suicide on January 27, 1967, he was only 28 years old, after learning, that his song had been eliminated from the final competition. Tenco was found by Dalida in his hotel room with a bullet wound in his left temple and a note announcing, that his gesture was against the jury and public's choices during the competition. Only days earlier, Tenco's wedding to Dalida had been announced. The Sanremo festival's fourth night opened with Marco Mengon i who entered the stage and gave a splendid performance of Sergio Endrigo 's Io che amo solo te . Right after enters Fazio and they have a chat about his success in Spain this very moment and Mengoni thanked for this wonderful year he has had after winning Sanremo last year, and he also thanked Luigi Tenco's family. Last year he sung Tenco's Ciao amore ciao , and convinced us all and cemented his victory. The evening continues with all the Big singers singing Italian classics of the singer-songwriter scene. 

While the viewing figures keep dropping in Italy, less than 9 million for last night (34,36%) tonight is going to be an interesting one. The Big will perform Italian classcis of the singer-songwriter scene with guests, and we will have the first final and winner - of the newcomers category.  And most of all. last year's winner Marco Mengoni returns and gives another tribute to Luigi Tengo. Marco Mengoni will return to the stage of Teatro Ariston and the Festival in Sanremo this Friday,. He will pay tribute to singer-songwriter Luigi Tenco. Last year Mengoni did wonder's when singing Tenco's Ciao amore ciao on Friday night and really cemented his newfound success with a very emotional performance, approved even my late Tenco's family. He also dedicated his victory last year to him and now.... he will be back singing more Tenco for all of us! It seems he will open the show, just like Ligabue did yesterday singing Fabrizio De André. How fab is that?

Alice will be singing live tonight in Verona's Auditorium Nuovo Montemezzi 9pm CET. She will be singing songs from her own repertoire and from Luigi Tenco's songbook. The event is to celebrate the release a double-CD of Tenco's unreleased songs. Inediti. Alice sings Se sapessi come fai on the album. Luigi Tenco (1938-1967) was a very important Italian singer-songwriter who committed suicide during the 1967 Sanremo festival.
