Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  Unlike most Stock, Aitken and Waterman artists Rick wasn't thrown into studio and easy hits made right away and he worked in the studio learning the business and overcame his shyness, while he waited his moment to shine. It came with a single that hit #1 in 25 countries and pretty much saved the company that was starting to fall apart a bit. Three hit albums later they parted the ways, Rick's career pretty much flopped and he retired for many years. He made his second comeback in 2016 with a #1 album in the UK.  I had no idea.   Oh Kylie, the Queen of PWL! Who would have thought her career still goes on over 30 years later, a bit like Madonna's. Over the years she has changed - or tried to change styles - but she's always Kylie, and I was rather surprised when seeing her live what a showgirl and fine vocalist she's on stage. She's one of those rare ones I have kept eye and ear on ever since her start.... Check out also:

  If 80's was all about Motown, the 80's were equally all about PWL. I was a big fan and pretty much liked and purchased all they released. Things you do when you're young....  Some artists you liked more, some less but Jason was definately one of my top favorites.... It was good all those 2-3 years it lasted....

  Mandy Smith was one of those dozens PWL artists I got into. If Motown is my big great love, PWL was kinda its 80's/90's version and even worked pretty much the same way artists singing similar songs that came out in dozens and if they didn't work someone else had a go with it hoping in turning it into a hit.  Mandy, a former model and The Rolling Stones's Bill Wyman's 13-year-old girlfriend and later wife lasted one album and ironically her last single was a cover, Don't you want me baby ..... Nope. But it was fun as long as it lasted and Positive reaction is still fab.

This song has a curious story as well. Co-writtten by Mick Jackson he recorded it in 1977 but its release was delayed due to a problem at the pressing plant and his publisher sold it to Motown without his knowledge at MIDEM. On the other hand he had hoped Stevie Wonder would record it. Instead it went to The Jacksons who released it in August 1978, just before Mick's version. Also in the UK the versions were released within a few days in September. In the end Mick peaked at #61 and The Jacksons #54. The song did better in UK where The Jacksons scored a #8 hit with it and Mick #15.    In 1989 Stock, Aitken and Waterman produced the song for Big Fun and scored its best placing yet:  #4 UK hit. The song has been covered countless times either live or in studio by big and not so big artists. 

There are always Eurovision wannabes in search of some self promotion in the low season and this summer 1980's discogirl Sinitta has thought it's as good a way to promote her apparent return to music scene since nearly 20 years shouting "I want to do it!"  We can mix it with her early career that does include a participation in the UK selection of 1984 with Imagination (4th), and her ex Simon Cowell who has declared he could fix it for the UK. And Sinitta was his very first hit artist! Could they join forces again and recreate the magic for the good cause? Sinitta made it big in mid 1980's with hits like So macho , Toy boy and Cross my broken heart . Now she's about to make a come back in London pride with a cover of her mother Miquel Brown's hit So many men, so little time . (Another well known singer Amii Stewart is her aunt) In the 1990's and 2000's she's been more known for her personal life and reality tv, affair with Simon Cowell ...

If you think this sounds like good old Stock-Aitken-Waterman you are right. It is! Seems like the whole PWL team is behind this one and indeed it sounds just like if Rick Astley, Mel & Kim or the likes could have recorded this some 25 years ago. But it's Aussie Peter Wilson with his Stereo . The vid is so gay it hurts and I have a feeling it's not intentional.....

Josh Dubovie (19) will sing the Peter Waterman-Mike Stock penned That sounds good to me for UK in Oslo 2010. No comment. Sadly disappointing song I must say but maybe with reworking it out they manage to make it somewhat decent? Esma won the first round (jury) followed by Alexis and Josh. Josh then triumphed at the televote leaving Alexis second and Esma third....

Your country need you! pr the UK national election for Oslo 2010 will take place tonight. The concept os the same as last year: a famous composer, one song and several artists belting it out and televoters deciding who did it the best. This time the song is written by Peter Waterman with Mike Stock of PWL fame, the late 80's-early 90's British hitfacotry modelled by the 60's original Motown in the States. Alexis, Miss Fitz, Josh, Karen, Uni5 and Esma made it to this stahe from the internal selections. Graham Norton presents again. When? 21.30 CET. Where. Nowhewre outside UK.

Pete Waterman, the man behind the countless hits of Kylie Minogue , Jason Donovan , Sinitta , Hazell Dean , Bananarama , Cliff Richard, Sonia , Mel & Kim , Rick Astley , Steps .... the list is endless. His PWL ruled the British charts - and not only - in the late 80's-early 90's. His first chart topper was John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John's You're the one that I want in 1978 and the latest Six's Let me be the one in 2002. In total he has written/producer/promoted 40 UK number ones and over 300 top-40 songs. PWL was considered a sort of modern day Motown, a real Hit Factory where several singers sung the same song and the most potential one was released and sometimes others, too. Like Turn it into love by Hazell and Kylie.   Or once again Hazell and Liza Minnelli in Love pains . With the 80's revival going on, has BBC got it right this time?
