Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Ironically on the day of Junior Eurovision song contest the news reach us the oldest ever Eurovision entrant, Ladislav Demeterffy - Laci aka 75 Cent passed away yesterday. He would have been 78 in January. He represanted Croatia in Eurovision 2008 with Krajlevi Ulice and song Romanca that I loved back then and still do. Many fans labeled that then a novelty act or a joke failing to see it was serious and a great song. Here . Rest in peace, Laci. You'll be missed.

75 Cent commented on going on to the final: " Aight, new teeth, new suit, new walking stick. And a Eurovision final. This is one hellofa good week we’ve got going right here! Gimme a flag , let’s wave this thing !" Priceless, this man is adorable!

11. CROATIA Croatia has also completed their first rehearsal and thus 75 Cents becomes officially the oldest artist on stage in the Eurovision history. The way he behaves isn't that of 75 years old though. He starts off sitting on a chair and getting the song started, then wanders around stage and raps it away with his stick in the air before ending by a grammophone where he scraches some old 78s like a modern day hip hop DJ. The act includes the other musicians in a simple coreography and a dancer that 75 Cents apparently fancies.... Thsi belongs to the category "if there is any justice in the world this flies to the final".... After Latvia's artificialism this is pure honesty.

Croatia has been one of my favourite almost every year, I even liked their song last year when no one else did. They also have a very good record in the contest but haven't yet won as an independent country. This year's entry may not be a fan favourite but it is fantastic and one can hope the Gotan Project will help them with some votes in May. (How about a Gotan project remix?) Kraljevi Ulice was born in 1987 when Hadzi and Pajo started working together. Today they collaborate with many musicians and singers and organize many annual street festivals and events, the biggest and most important of them being Advent in the heart of Zagreb. The new album Zemlja plese that includes their Eurovision entry is already their 20th. Miran Hadzi Veljkovic (50) started his music career at tender age of 18 and has played in many bands. Besides singing he plays violin and learned the tricks of being street musicians in Paris where he lived for 4 years singing in the metro. Zlatko Petrovic ...
