EUROVISION: HOW TO SCORE A BIG FLAT ZERO

It happened again. A big flat zero point. This year it was quite unexpected and surprising one: Olly from United Kingdom and his Dizzy. Zero points from the televote. I don't think anyone was expecting that! But how often we do get zero points scoring entries these days? Last year we had two in semi-finals: Romania and San Marino in televoting. Two years ago Azerbaijan scored zero from televoting in the semi-final and but qualified anyways! In the final Germany scored a zero from jury, Switzerland from televote.  Then we come to the crazy year of 2021. Where to start? United Kingdom scored a big flat zero from BOTH the jury and the televote! Now try to repeat that!  But also Spain , Germany and the host Netherlands all scored a zero from televote in the final.  As that wasn't enough also Czechia got a zero in televotes in the semi-final.... In 2019 Austria scored zero in semi-final with televoting. Germany did it again in final's televoting while Israel did it w...

FINLAND: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO KOJO

Timo Kojo, commonly known as "Zero Kojo" turns 64 today. He earned the nickname in the 1982 Eurovision and ever since he's been the prime example of Finland's failures in the contest. Being a good sport, he's apparently taken pride of it and even these days spits it out if he doesn't like the Finnish entry, like Sing it away last year..... in a bit of an old grumpy man style :-) Congratulations!

UK: CRY CRY BABY, IT'S PRISON TIME FOR JEMINI

Remember Jemini, the only UK act ever to score null points at the Eurovision song contest? Like if that humiliation wasn't enough for the female part of the duo, Gemma Abbey, she decided it's cool to trick subsidies and tax relief for over 72.000 euros over five years. That gave her 30 weeks in prison and on top of that one year probation plus she has to pay that money back. Cry... She claimed she was a single mother, and that she needs higher subsidies and tax breaks because of her daughter's health. Instead she had married in 2013 and lived with the husband since 2010. All this posted in Facebook, and neighbours witnessing the events. She was arrested in 2014 and now the judgements was read,  Now she's got a reason to cry. cry cry baby.... for the next 30 weeks.

Last but not least in Eurovision: Haldor Lægreid

In 2001 two songs finished last in the Eurovision song contest - Norway and Iceland. Norway was represanted by Haldor Lægreid , then 31-year-old rather unknown singer, dancer and actor with On my own . The over dramatic performance didn't really go down well with the juries and the song scored only 3 points, all of them from Portugal. (The Icelandic song scored points from two countries so this Norwegian entry came ultimate last. Kind of). The result may have been a surprise for Norwegians who had high hopes for their entry. Haldor studied musical theatre in Sweden and has since made a rather succesful musical career in Germany and has been performing also in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. He lives now in Berlin. Here are some of his more recent performances: How am I supposed to live without you , Calling you and Just tell me when .

What it takes to score null points?

In YouTube there's a voting for the most undeserved null pointer in history so go and vote here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RcaLWg-Fas . In early years before the current voting system was introduced it was quite easy and common to get a flat zero, however for me Italy 1966 still remains a mystery as it's a fantastic track and Domenico Modugno was a big star at the time. In more recent years Remedios Amaya did absolutely not deserve a zero in 1983. On the other hand if she got say 15th place would we remember her this well? There's always two sides to null pointer, too. A fact proved by Finland's own Kojo who made it his trademark and still lives on its glory! And frankly, you remembers those last placed ones who got a few points?
