AZERBAIJAN: HERE'S AISEL'S X MY HEART FOR EUROVISION

Azerbaijan has released their cards for Lisbon 2018 Eurovision song contest. Behind it are the usual Kontopoulos-Kirkorov-Bjurman but ... X my heart such a standard middle of the road Melodifestivalen/album filler song that one is lost for words. Not even a minimum effort to try to make it stand out, a little bit original or add some local flavor. The only effort comes in form of the "X". This is loooong 3 minutes...

SAME OLD RECIPE FOR AZERBAIJAN

The national selections are going on or starting up in various countries and I won't be reporting of all of them before there is some solid interesting things to tell. However, today's news is that Azerbaijan is sticking to its selection method. It has brought them success, and most of all leaves the door open to the broadcaster to pick up basically whoever they want in the end, or even pair them up, and most importantly go and buy the song elsewhere after filling a lot of TV-time for all autumn-winter. After all, only their debut entry was an Azeri written song, the rest coming from Sweden. Now, that the contest is in Sweden, would they look elsewhere? I don't think so..... If you have scored four top-5 places with them in past four years.... The only excitement comes from from guessing if it's Stefan Örn and Sandra Bjurman AGAIN? Not that I'm pleased or agree...

Azerbaijan: When the music dies

Azerbaijan, the host country has just released the song they will have on home stage in Baku 2012. Sabina Babayeva will sing When the music dies . The song is once again written by Swedes Stefan Örn and Sandra Bjurman with Anders Bagge and Johan Kronlund. Stefan and Sandra wrote the last year's winning song Running scared. With the first hearing.... oh well. I guess I wouldn't be so sad if this music died prematurely. I was hoping the Azeris would bring something of their own to the contest for a change - no, a couple of local instruments aren't enough.
