Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

The annual fan based voting for the best - at the very moment - Eurovision song contest entries is over for another year and with the usual ending on top and a few surprises along the way but let's not talk about that. Let's talk about the songs that scored one point. In short. One person thought that particular song was the tenth best song ever.  About 40 songs got that score and I have picked some of them for your entertainment here. Eurovision throwback! New series. I will present and comment here the contests of yesteryears picking up four songs from each year (or more). Not the ones I think are the best (now) but the songs that throwback memories when I see them in the participation list. Of course mostly they're my favorites at the time, songs that I have loved. Some have aged well, some... well, not so well. After the 1976-77 editions that I have some uncertain memories, 1978 is the contest I remember almost too well watching. I remember our old house, how it was furnished, the people I watched it with. My parents had some relatives visiting who decided to leave after the songs as it was getting late and they had to drive some 30 kms to home. I remember I was in total shock how could they leave in the middle and not wait for the winner! In the 1970’s Ralph Siegel starts his Eurovision adventure as well as scores hits by many artists. In 1972 he gets two songs to the German final: Edina Pop ’s Meine Liebe will ich Dir geben and Andrian Wolf ’s Mein Geschenk a n Dich . He doesn’t win yet but then in 1974 he gets to Eurovision when Ireen Sheer sings Bye bye I love you for Luxembourg and places fourth. Meanwhile he has also had his first superhit, Rex Guildo ’s Fiesta Mexicana. A year after he tries again in Germany with Peggy March ’s Alles geht voruber . Still no win but his record company is doing well and he produces hits to many artists including Udo Jurgens . One of them was Penny McLeane ’s Lady Pump that topped the charts all over Europe . In America he gets his first #1 hits when Silver Convention ’s Fly Robin fly and Get up and boogie top the charts. In Germany he hits it big with Peter Alexander . Ireen Sheer, the British-German lady was the first one in a very long line of ladies (and not only) performing some form of strip tease on Eurovision stage - someone correct me if I am wrong - back in 1978, long before Bucks Fizz and their skirts, Danijela , Doris & co. ... the list is endless. On her two other Eurovision attemps (1974 and 1985) she kept her cloathing on and the fact is she is still going strong in German market and has just released a new album Frei.
