ITALY: SANREMO 2027 GOES ON TOUR AND HAS AN EUROVISION NIGHT

The new Artistic director for Sanremo Stefano De Martino* has really changed some things in the annual festival with his co-director Fabrizio Ferraguzzo, some same old like dropping the Newcomers category in the festival, some new like replacing the Cover night with Eurovision night. But let's go on order.

No news about his co-hosts yet but the names Giulia Vecchio, Herbert Ballerina and Carlo Amleto, his current collaborators are considered very possible be in. Maria De Filippi might return as well.

The 77th Sanremo festival will take place in Teatro Ariston in Sanremo between February 16 and 20, 2027. Apparently there will be fewer songs this time around, 24 (instead of the 30 the past years). The Newcomers winner aka Sanremo Giovani winner will be added to the line up to compete among the Big  and thus will have a chance to win it all and/or the Eurovision night and go to Eurovision as well. Just like Mahmood in 2018-19.

The Sanremo Giovani final will take place on December 18, 2026. Three artists for the final will come from Sarà Sanremo selection, another three from AreaSanremo selection. As mentioned the winner gets a ticket among the 24 Big in the festival in February. At the same time all Big artists will be present to reveal the title of their entry. How many shows Sará Sanremo will have before the final is yet unknown.

Stefano De Martino also aims to bring back the international artists as guest stars in the festival. The talks are about Brumo Mars and Olivia Dean for example at the moment. Likes of Madonna, Whitney Houston, U2, Duran Duran, Ricky Martin, Queen, Shakira, Celine Dion, Spanday Ballet, David Bowir, One Direction, Kylie Minogue, Kate Berry, Dua Lipa etc have graced the Teatro Ariston stage over the years. Also Eurovision winners Måneskin should be there to do a comeback and relaunch their career as a band.

The format for the 2027 editions will have all the entries presented the first night while on the second and third half of them will re-perform. On the fourth night aka Friday all will perform their entry in Eurovision style which probably means added dancers, gimmicks, glitter and kitch - as much as the small Ariston stage allows - and that night's winner will get the ticket to Bulgaria 2027. On Saturday as usual the grand final with all entries and of course it could be the same entry wins both night (which would be ideal in sense of keeping the festival's legacy). This said it's quite clear that I am not in favor for this change until proven wrong. Italy has done better than any other country just by sticking to Sanremo winners. If and when they start picking a song Eurovision in mind there's a huge risk they get it all wrong as it's obvious a general public as a weird picture of Eurovision still. How the voting will work this edition is not clear yet. It could also be the Eurovision night has an expert jury rather than public voting (omfg....).

And of course the rumor mill of possible artist aiming to take part is already going wild. I suppose at this moment it's more like some wishful thinking and hoping but names like Mahmodd, Elodie, Emma Marrone, Blanco, Madame, Achille Lauro, Venerus and Tananai are mentioned along with Tiziano Ferro, Alessandra Amoroso, Nada, Paola Turci, Coez and California (ex Coma_Cose). Add Tedua, Kid Yugi, Geolier, Fred De Palma, Samurai Jay, Frah Quintale, Anna, Sarah Toscano, Settembre, Nicolò Filippucci, Clara, Gaia, The Kolors, Cristina D'Avena, Emma Nolde, Cleo, Nu Genea, Tamango.... Well, some of them just must be in if you throw in enough names!

But that's not all! Rai announces an European tour just a couple of days after Sanremo, meaning the artists (The winner, Eurovision night winner, the Newcomers winner along with other artists of class 2027 and previous Sanremo and Eurovision acts will board a private plane and fly to Paris (February 23), and over to Madrid (26th), Munich (March 1) and finally London (March 3). They are followed by journalists and media and... well, the winner takes the stage in Paris some 48 hours after winning in Paris and continues a week of this holabaloo. All this thought by Minister of Tourism Gianmarco Mazzi. I have only one question in mind: If Ebu didn't manage to sell tickets to that Eurovision tour this spring and had to cancel it all how could this go well? And who remembers those Eurovision winner's tours in late 2000's? Total flops. Then again Italian artists labeled Sanremo did tour in the 80's even in Finland and did well in Russia until the war. Yet, I don't know.

*(who is Eurovision veteran Emma Marrone's ex among other things, they met while being in Amici talrent show and were in item between 2009-12)

Sabina Babayeva for Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani selection show for the represant was as long as the selection process for the five finalists. Kurt Calleja from Malta and Can Bonomo from Turkey were present with Ell/Nikki to see Sabina Babayeva to emerge as the winner after each and every finalist had done about zillion songs amongst other guests. Now the Azeri TV will shop around a suitable song for her.

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2015 NORWAY: LISTEN TO THE FINALISTS

The Norwegian entries are now and there to listen, or here . This time Norway has only one off final with 11 songs and a live orchestra, so it will be interesting to hear how these songs will turn out as most are rather modern sounding and not so Eurovisionesque midtempo numbers. There could have been also only ten if they had dropped that joke entry from the line up. The old veterans Elisabeth and Tor have nothing to be ashamed among this lot. To be honest I didn't get excited by any of these really...  Something is wrong in my books  if a classic schlager like Heaven sounds almost the best... What's wrong Norway?

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

FINLAND: LORDI RELEASES SEXORCISM - THEIR 9TH STUDIO ALBUM

Brand new studio album SEXORCISM is released tomorrow, 12 years and 5 days after their monstreous victory in Athens 2006 Eurovision song contest. It is quite possibly the most controversial Lordi album yet and already their 9th stuido album (plus three compilations and one Ep)

THE ABBA REUNION 2016 - WATCH THEM SING TOGETHER AGAIN

The 2016 Eurovision song contest organizers didn't manage it - or any of the previous ones either nor those offering them millions of dollars - but they seem to get together for birthdays, the way the old friends do. Back in 1999 they performed together in a private party for Görel Hansel's 50th birthday, and now to celebrate the first meeting of Björn and Benny 50 years ago. Venue was Stockholm's Bern's Salonger and once again in a private setting but today even they can't stop the cell phone videos and social medias. Enjoy the magic of Frida's and Agnetha's voices again.

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o...

FINLAND: REMEMBERING KIRKA

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

El Retorno: Marco Banderas - The porn life

XXX-porn star Marco Banderas seems to be fan of Eurovision, as he is aiming for Moscow 2009. His The porn life is at #385 in the voting right now. He's doing much better in his hardcore porn star career than as a singer: he's been nominated to 8 AVN (Adult Video News) Awards, including Male performer of the year. http://www.rtve.es/television/eurovision2009/candidatos/marco-banderas.shtml (oh and no, it's not one of my favourites. It's here purely to spice up your new year's a little ;-) )
