Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

I was a huge Nena fan. Huge. Yet strangely it wasn't 99 Luftballons , their international smash hit that made it, never liked that one so much. Thanks to them I took German as 4th language at school over French in a similar fashion kids today learn Finnish because of the heavy rock bands... sort of. I loved non hit songs like Ich häng an dir and Der Anfang vom Ende .  Nena split, Nena herself went solo and I slowly lost interest while new versions of the songs came and went by..... Germany has published the names of the seven entablished artists taking part in the national selection. One more act will be added to the line up from the unknown artists who entered to take part (1.213 of them did actually). February 19 ten of them will fight for the place in the final line up in Clubkonzert to join these guys and it's worth remembering last year Elaiza beat all the big names in the final and went to Copenhagen. It might be my impression but this year's big aren't as big as last year's.... I never heard any of them, but then I can't call myself an expert in German music of today. I'm a bit stuck on Nena and Nina Hagen period really. And just like last year, they will all perform two songs again. Oh dear, I just read Nena is 50 years old, mother of four and a grandmother!! How time flies. I was a huge Nena was in the early 1980's. For some reason I never cared much for 99 Luftballons but adored Leuchturm , ? (Fragezeichen) , Irgendwie irgendwo irgendwann , Rette mich , boombastic Der Anfang vom Ende , sofisticated Ich häng an dir   and such. When the band was finished and Nena herself continued solo I kinda lost track with her. She caught me attention again when she re-recorded her greatest hits with guests like Kim Wilde and I had a real "I got to listen to all old Nena stuff!" period. Meanwhile she seems to have continued her career as a singer, actress, TV-presenter making also music for kids, being elected the sexiest vegetarian and so on...  Now researching her I noticed she has been doing very well in the charts all through the 2000's after less brilliant 1990's and her latest single is a top-5 hit besides being rather lovely, Im meinem Leben .
