FINLAND: ANTTI TUISKU RELEASES HANURI

Antti Tuisku is really living the highlight of his career as we know it. His latest single Hanuri went straight to #1 in the official singles chart last week upon its release and yesterday he was the last act on Helsinki Day's open air free concert to celebrate Helsinki's 467th birthday in a strng of names like Chisu, The Rasmus, Kaija KooMikael Gabriel and Lauri Tähkä - all Finnish pop's royalty. Hanuri flirts with the Balcan sound and features to Kosovan brothers (aka Boyat) while the lyrics are tongue in cheek between dirty and hilarious filled with double meanings and read between the lines in true Kikka style! And if Kikka was the female Slavko os the late 80's-earöy 90's Antti is becoming the Finnish Slavko with his over the top performing..... If only in UMK.....

REMEMBERING KIKKA (1964-2005).....

Kikka died ten years ago today. Heart attack took her at the age of 41. Finland's very own Samantha Fox or Sabrina Salerno shot to the fame with her sexy image and provocative but always funny lyrics full of double meanings in the late 1980's. In a year or two all of sudden she was lusted by men, adored by kids and liked by women. A wierd combo that has left a mark in the Finnish music business and her legacy lives on. Her biggest dream was Eurovision and she did take part in the national final Euroviisut in 1992 with Parhaat puoleni (My best parts). Before that she scored twice a third place in the biggest Finnish music contest Syksysn Sävel; 1990 with Sukkula Veenukseen (Shuttle to Venus) and 1991 with Kierrätä, pyöritä mua (Recycle me, roll me over). Her debut single Mä haluun viihdyttää (I want to entertain you) in 1989 was a huge hit while Onnen nainenkin silloin vasta saa (Only then a woman is satisfied)  in 1991 was the very first female rap song in Finland.  H...

Remembering the best sides of Kikka

Kikka would have been 45 this year if she lived. She way ahead of time in 1992 when she presented Parhaat puoleni (The best (sides) of me) in Euroviisut but Finns still had no glue what to do with Eurovision and chose Pave Maijanen instead and we all know how that ended! She participated twice in the other song contest, Syksyn Sävel , before that ending up third both times with Sukkula Veenukseen (Shuttle to Venus) and Kierrätä, pyöritä mua (Recycle, roll me around). As you may notice her image and lyrics were rather daring and tongue in cheek, like her breakthrough hit Mä haluun viihdyttää (I want to entertain) where she sung "I want to entertain you, make you hot ". In a period of five years (1989-1994) she scored countless hits, 3 platinum discs and 5 gold discs and her record sales go over the 300.000 mark making her one of the best selling Finnish female artists ever. Check out also Tartu tiukasti hanuriin that would have been a perfect Eurovision entry , Osassa t...
