Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Armenia starts its Depi Evratesil selection process tonight with the first semifinal. The second one follows on Thursday and the final is set on Sunday. Five acts from each semi will reach the final. When writing this it is not know if there will be a jury or televoting or a mix of both.... Short rehearsal videos are already on Youtube . Some pretty decent stuff here and it's interesting to see who will eventually reach the final. Lusine has a good song, that on the other hand has nothing that would make it Armenian. Neither Nemra's. Zhanna's song could have been any national final anywhere - not because it's good but because it's such a standard Eurovision entry that are 13 in a dozen. Mger already caused minor stirr for his song being a bit too Queenish. Hayk goes Spanish but I'm not sure if that's the right way to go?  Tamar is the desgined winner and her song indeed mixes Armenian elements with modern pop. It's catchy and all, but is it stro...

  Armenia has announced songs sand details about their national final Depi Evratesil 2018 . Two semifinals will be staged on February 19 and 22, and the final on 25.  Among the artists Eurovision veteran Tamar Kaprelian , a creature called Kamil Show and this blogger's favorite of yesteryears Hayk Kasparov and they both sing in Spanish for some reason. With Kamil it kinda makes sense, but Hayk: why? Then we have Lusine, Mariam and Maria's Secret with quality songs that sadly have nothing Armenian. When having such an easily identifiable sound in one's music one should flaunt it, this blogger thinks. But then again, there isn't much of Armenian sound this year anyways, so maybe their goal is to get away from it - except Gata band :-) And fan favorite Tamar Kaprelian. I would keep eye also on Robert and Sevak , and why not also TyoM ? Or Zhanna with her (cheap clichè of a) song that is straight out of some Maltese selection.... We have seen so many times son...

Armenia has revealed their artists for Depi Evratesil , the talent show that will choose their artist for Lisbon 2018 Eurovision song contest. Among them is Tamar Kaprelian , already Eurovison veeteran as a member of Geneology supegroup in 2015, and this blogger's favorite Hayk Kasparov , who has tried several times before, but not for a many years after being very popular in his country 2008-2012. Since then he has lived in Germany where he has released an album in 2015. He continues releasing songs and videos on regular space. Remember Hayk Kasparov? He has tried to get to Eurovision before (in 2009 Give me an answer  and year later with Du gites ). He has done festivals and won awards over the years in Armenia and abroad and his songs like Siro toghe r, Gta  or Ay ay ay wouldn't have been miplaced in Eurovision. His  other songs include  Sirelis from a recent Tv-show and a duet with Marine Petrosyan a year ago. It seems he's living in Germany now ready to launch his international career. What would be more fitting than Eurovision then? Armenian TV will do official announcement next month. Who knows?

Agnetha Fältskog has released second single off her new album, Dance your pain away . A great retro dance number! The video features some groovy moves by her fans... :-) Armenian Hayk Kasparov has joined forces with Marine Petrosyan in Kum ar kum and classy video. Chris Munro goes to a pool party in his Go . Some groovy moves here, too, and a video that is illegal in Russia these days.... (Which is ridiculous and oh, so wrong, of course). Eric Saade has released the title track from his worthcoming album, Forgive me . Is he asking forgiveness for all the mediocre songs he has released recently? The video is a nice mix between IKEA ad and soap opera. Quite pleasant anyways....

Hayk Kasparov, the Armenian star I'd so would like to see on Eurovision stage has released a new single and video  Ես կամ նա (Es kam na, translates to I or him) and it's once again a beautiful, atmospheric one. He makes Armenian sound very nice indeed. I have written about him and his Eurovision adventures so far here . 

As we know Armenia unfortunately pulled out of the Baku 2012 Eurovision after all. If not, it might be Hayk Kasparov travelling there. He has participated in the national final before and will do so in the future for sure. Now he has released this beautiful ballad and video in the right time in Eurovision timing, and it's just around the three minutes limit as well. Could it have been...? Siro togher .
