#FINPOP2024: ALMA, SAMU HABER, MIRIAM BRYANT AND LANE BOY /AXEL EHNSTRÖM / SURFIN' SAM

Here comes the special post vol.1 of #Finpop2024 not in Finnish. First ALMA, one of Finland's most selling artists abroad with a title song from her biopic movie followed by Samu Haber ex-Sunrise Avenue, another mega export artist who has released songs in English after he went Finnish when going solo at first. Then we have Miriam Bryant, that you all know as a Swede. But actually she's a Finn and finally for the first time ever sings in Finnish! Last but not least a groovy song by a trio that includes Axel Ehnström aka Paradise Oskar from Eurovision 2011. Da dam he has become one of the hit songwriters in Finland. he has co-written also that Samu Haber song btw. Enjoy! ALMA - Life must be beautiful ( movie trailer ) Samu Haber - Dancing with a broken heart Miriam Bryant - Mustelmilla ( Mi amor ) Lane Boy / Axel Ehnström / Surfin' Sam - What I hope

FINLAND: THE RADIOPLAY NUMBER ONES IN 2020

If BEHM was the Queen in the official singles charts ( here ) she also dominated the radio charts with her two song with a total of 17 weeks at number one and a total of 97 weeks in Top-100 with her various songs. In radios the longest lasting number one was however Epäröimättä hetkeekään by Elastinen & Jenni Vartiainen with 20 weeks at number one. Then comes surprisingly Erin with Yhtenä sunnuntaina and its seven weeks. Another duet 2020 by Anna Puu and Olavi Uusivirta spent 4 weeks at number one while Stereo feat Samu Haber and Arttu Wiskari topped the charts only for a week, making it only seven radio number ones in 2020! All of them Finnish. BEHM - Hei rakas (Weeks 1, 3, 4-11) Stereo feat. Samu Haber - Sä saat mut palasiksi (Week 2) Elastinen & Jenni Vartiainen - Epäröimättä hetkeäkään (Weeks 12-29, 33-35) Anna Puu & Olavi Uusivirta - 2020 (Weeks 30-32, 40) Arttu Wiskari -Tässäkö tää oli? (Week 36) Erin - Yhtenä sunnuntaina (Weeks 37-39, 41-44) BEHM - Frida (45-...

FINLAND: GUESSING THE #UMK2021 HOPEFULS, vol.3 - EMMA AWARD WINNERS

This is where things get tricky - they are just so many! Besides artists it also includes songwriters, producers and so on but I have picked a few and as with the other categories some these also fall into other categories, namely Vain elämää that both Samuli Edelmann and Samu Haber have done, too. Samu Haber - Emma winner 2006 for the New band, 2007 and 2019 for Export award Now that Sunrise Avenue is only waiting for the postponed farewell tour in 2021 Samu has been here and everywhere with his biography and singing also in Finnish and there's a clear public demand for his solo career. Could he surprise us all and launch it in UMK2021? More likely he could have written a song for someone else, something he planned already for Hanna Pakarinen in 2007 (Forever yours) LEO or Leo Stillman - Emma winner 2017 for the Newcomer of the year Leo, the Mikko Leppilampi lookalike who stole his girlfriend and had a baby with has been releasing singles ever since his explosive Emma winning ...

NEW SOUNDS FROM FINLAND: STEREO ft. SAMU HABER, ABREU, JENNI VARTIAINEN, SUNRISE AVENUE

FINLAND: VAIN ELÄMÄÄ 10 - MAIJA VILKKUMAA'S DAY

The tenth season of Vain elämää has come to an end what comes to the artist days, a few more episodes will air again with re-runs of the songs only and also a two episode Christmas specials. Maija Vilkkumaa had the honor to end the days, and as I am a fan of Maija these songs were mostly wellknown to me beforehand. Antti honored the Finnish national instrument kantele in his version.  Studio Maija Vilkkumaa's original Studio Maija Vilkkumaa's original Studio Maija Vilkkumaa's original Studio Maija Vilkkumaa's original

FINLAND: VAIN ELÄMÄÄ 10: SAMU HABER'S DAY

Sunrise Avenue's Samu Haber's day gave us some rather interesting covers and the demand of him doing a solo album in Finnish is getting louder and louder.... It was a bit hard to choose the four and also Vesala , Elastinen and Lauri Tähkä all did a great job in a way or another.  Studio Sunrise Avenue's original Studio Sunrise Avenue's original Studio Sunrise Avenue's original Studio Sunrise Avenue's original

FINLAND: VAIN ELÄMÄÄ 10: ERIN'S DAY

A bit late but here comes the Erin's Day round up, that sadly I found a bit disappointing and it was a bit hard to choose the favoriters. Or rather the songs I may have liked the most as Erin's (or Nylon Beat's) favorites didn't quite work in new versions by JVG and Maija Vilkkumaa or Elastinen . Which is rather interesting: Erin makes fantastic covers but the others don't quite manage to cover her songs... Hmmm. FINLAND: VAIN ELÄMÄÄ 10 - VILLEGALLE'S DAY

Or should it be JVG's day? Anyways. Once again they had lunch, dinner and other activities, a few tears were shed and this time Vesala and Maija Vilkkumaa scored in my book with their versions, along with Samu Haber and Lauri Tähkä, as usual. We so need Samu's solo album in Finnish! Enjoy! Studio Original by JVG Studio Original by JVG Studio Original by JVG Studio Original by JVG

FINLAND: VAIN ELÄMÄÄ 10 - VESALA'S DAY

Day 2 of season 10 was dedicated to Paula Vesala and her solo songs and the songs of her ex-band PMMP.  Being a female writer with some very rough, meaningful and strong lyrics the male artists took the best out of them this time, even if Maija Vilkkumaa and Erin did a good h´job. My favorites were however again Lauri Tähkä and Samu Haber, with Antti Tuisku making his debut, a very strong one and Elastinen did a good job after last week's flop. FINLAND: VAIN ELÄMÄÄ 10 - ANTTI TUISKU'S DAY

Vain elämää series, where top artists gather together in a villa for a week to perform each other's songs and talk over everything over lunch and dinner has reached its 10th season already and it's a All Stars one featuring JVG's VilleGalle, Elastinen, Lauri Tähkä, Paula Vesala, Maija Vilkkumaa, Erin, Antti Tuisku and Sunrise Avenue's Samu Haber . The series kicked off with Antti Tuisku's Day and below are my favorites out of the performances (and Antti's originals) that all outdid the original for a reason or another.... Lauri and Erin turned the songs something else and were for me the outstanding ones by far.  Antti Tuisku Antti Tuisku Antti Tuisku Antti Tuisku

FINLAND: SUNRISE AVENUE (OR SAMU HABER) FOR #UMK2019 AND EUROVISION

Yle is going internal again in 2019 and it will be very curious to see who they choose (or get) after Saara Aalto - will they go for big international name or something big in Finland.  Or someone new and emerging? One of the big international names would surely be Sunrise Avenue or their front man Samu Haber solo. He has already flirted with Eurovision song contest back in 2007 when Forever yours was ment for Hanna Pakarinen. Later he ended up singing it with another Eurovision veteran Laura Voutilainen in Vain elämää series that made him known to most everyone, and kinda launched the idea of his solo career.  Sunrise Avenue is big(ger than in Finland actually) in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Their latest album topped the German album charts, as did their compilation album (and also in Switzerland). In Finland they have been regular top10 only. Their singles have charted also in Greece, Sweden and Belgium over the years.  Below are their biggest hits....

GERMANY: HERE ARE THE SIX FOR GERMANY

Germany has confirmed the widely rumored acts for  Unser Lied Für Lissabon , the national selection for Eurovision song contest 2018 in Lissabon. Handpicked among the 4000 wannabes by 100 members of Eurovision-Panel and then 20 international experts these six will be now matched with suitable songs et voilà, Germany has another entry to try to avoid the last (or second to last) place in the final come May.... Natia Todua , 21, is from Georgia but also the fresh winner of The Voice of Germany. Her coach was none other than Finnish Samu Haber of Sunrise Avenue fame :-) Ivy Quainoo , 25, is then the very first The Voice of Germany winner back in 2012. Since then she's moved to New York. Michael Schulte , 27, is famous in Youtube where he has 200.000 subscribers. Ryk (aka Rick Jurthe), 28, is singer, composer and producer. Xaviar Darcy , 22, made his debut this year with a Top-50 iTunes album. voXXclub comes from Munich and its members (Florian Claus, S...

FINLAND: ARTISTS WE SHOULD HAVE IN #UMK18 - IF ONLY...Vol.4: SAMU HABER, ROBIN, LUCAS AND SUVI TERÄSNISKA

It's September and the Eurovision 2018 season is officially on. I will feature in coming days names that could be in UMK18, if only...... I say if only, as most likely we won't see any of them in there for UMK is profilied as a newcomers contest instead of being our own Sanremo or Melodifestivalen. In short: a major contest all the big names want to take part not only to win but to boost their record sales and score hits. But one can dream, right? I have thrown in some not so known names for variety. Let's go.... Vol.4 (Check out Vol1 , Vol2 and Vol3 ) Samu Haber , the frontman of Sunrise Avenue, a band that has always been more succesful abroad than at home, make himself known to great public in the latest edition of Vain elämää music reality show and conquered many hearts. He also revealed Forever yours was actually ment for Hanna Pakarinen for Eurovision 2007 so he does have a certain interest for Eurovision. Check out some of his covers from the show: Joutsen...

FINLAND: WHAT IF HANNA PAKARINEN SUNG SUNRISE AVENUE'S FOREVER YOURS IN EUROVISION 2007?

A curious details was revealed by Sunrise Avenue's Samu Haber in the popular Vain elämää show, where artists spend a week together and every night cover each others songs between stories of their career and life. On Samu's night Laura Voutilainen had picked Forever yours to cover and Samu told: "After Lordi won Eurovision in 2006, we were writing a song to Hanna Pakarinen for Eurovision and the demo sounded pretty much like Forever yours. When I played it to the record company people telling this would be on our second album's first single they insisted we record it and it was added to the debut album's special Gold version instead." So, if the record label didn't like the song so much it could have been one of the two Hanna Pakarinen songs in Euroviisut 2007 and propably Finland's entry as well at home in Helsinki 2007. Hanna never recorded it, of course, but Laura Voutilainen gave an outstanding performance of it in the show first solo,...

LENA WITH FINNS NIILA AND SAMU HABER CELEBRATE BMW 100

German car giant BMW will celebrate its 100th anniversary in the Olympic stadium in Munich next September 9-10. German Eurovision winner Lena will be performing along with Simply Red and the most loved Finns in Germany: Sunrise Avenue's frontman Samu Haber and new risig star Niila. They have recorded together the theme song for the BMW Centennial show, A hundreds years.

FINNISH ARTISTS UNITE FOR CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

As the state failed to collect money to build a new, desperately needed hospital for children all sort of events and fund raising ways has been launched previously. And here finally comes the "ULS17 Live Aid". Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen wrote the sing together with Simo Reunamäki and Cheek, and 18 artists got together for the recording of the song and the video. A five hour long stadium concert will follow on June 6, 2015 in Helsinki Olympic Stadium with all the artists and the choir of musicians of Finnish National opera and the dancers of the national Ballet. This event should push the donations to pass over the needed sum to start building later this year and the new hospital to be ready in 2017. The list of artists is quite impressive from top selling artists of the past few years like Cheek, Jenni Vartiainen, Chisu, Jesse Kaikuranta to Lauri Ylönen of The Rasmus and Samu Haber of Sunrise Avenua. And Eurovision stars Jari Sillanpää, Riki Sorsa and Vesa-Matt...

FINLAND CELEBRATED 95TH BIRTHDAY WITH EUROVISION

Kaija Koo, Laura Voutilainen, Cheek The Finnish Independence day on December 6 is traditionally celebrated with the glamorous ball in the president's castle. This year Finland celebrated its 95th birthday as we gained independence in 1917. We also had a new presidential couple in charge after 12 years with Tarja Halonen, the first female president. it was pretty close we didn't have a gay president this time around as Pekka Haavisto came close second earlier this year, and his partner Antonio Flores, originally from Columbia would have been "the first lady". Such joy and fun that would have been! Maybe in six years... Anyways, the ball is a little bit "Who's who" in Finland and among this year's some 1800 guests besides all the diplomats, big bosses, political figures, members of parliaments, sportsmen who have made the nation proud over the year there are always some artists for a reason or another. This year among them Laura Voutilainen, Cheek...
