Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Four cities are officially running to host the 2011 Eurovision song contest. NRD and EBU will decide within weeks now that the cities and their plans are official. Berlin is the biggest (3,7 million inhabitants) and the most exciting one what comes to history besides being again the capital city. Hamburg (1,7 million) is the home city of NRD. The other two with their over half a million inhabitants are important for other reasons - like Hannover being Lena's hometown. This blog stands for Berlin no doubt!

After Lena won the 2010 Eurovision in Oslo the German cities started the fight to get the contest. Main contender remains Berlin for various reasons. Klaus Wowereit, mayor of Berlin would welcome the happening to his city claiming it fits nicely to the city's image, there's no shortage of hotel rooms, there's a suitable arena (O2 World) and the city is used to organize big happenings. Ole von Beust, mayor of Hamburg on the other hand reminds the city of Hamburg has been living in Eurovision holabaloo for years now. City's Reeperbahn has been also for many years now the place where tens of thousends of people gather together to watch the show live on megascreens and where the German votes are given from.  He says he's willing to do anything to get the contest to his city.  We can't forget Cologne either as it houses the offices of Stefan Raab's production company Brainpool, the German selection shows were sent from the city this year and it is also Germany...

Thousends of fans were waiting for Lena who arrived to Hannover this afternoon with Sfefan Raab and the rest of the team. Later in the city center about 40.000 people met her in the welcoming reception.  Angela Merkel has also congratulated the 19 year old student saying she's "an example of the new young Germany".  No good wishes nor comment of any kind from the previous and only German winner until last night, Nicole. She was only 17 when she won in 1982. Reporters tried to call her for a comment and only got her husband who hung up on them!  Mayor of Berlin has already welcomed Eurovision to his town in 2011, let's see how it goes. But they already talk about repeating the talent show that brought them Lena, this time titled Unser Star für Berlin, so... But Hannover and Hamburg won't let it be easy for Berlin - they want Eurovision 2011, too! Tomorrow night there will be a special broadcast 20.15 CET on Total TV.
