WHAT I LISTENED TO IN THE 80'S, vol. 96 - NIK KERSHAW

Nik Kershaw's spotlight in fame didn't last very long but he left us with some great hits and his career peaked at being one of the performers in the Live Aid concert and then he kinda faded away. Also from my radar. Over the years he has released some albums and written and produced songs to many others scoring occasional hits by Tony Banks of Genesis, Elton John, Sia, The Hollies , Let Loose, Gary Barlow, Bonnie Tyler..... Shalalie not original?!

And he comes the first official plagiarism effort of the year, like every year. This year it is the Dutch entry. A songwriter has officially filed a complaint at the organization that protects the rights of a songwriter. He claims he tried through several months to get Pierre Kartner to change some things in his song, but with no reply to follow. The song is said to sound too much like the song Angelien by Arne Jansen. A Dutch judge will decide on this claim only in July so it appears that Sieneke can go to Oslo but if the plagiarism claim is honoured she will be disqualified after the contest. You judge yourself: Angelien = Shalalie ? I think this is pretty much as plagiarism as Waldo's People's Lose control and Nik Kershaw's Wouldn't it be good last year...

Finland: Wouldn't it be good to lose control? Still.

Waldo told Helsingin Sanomat that Nik Kershaw's publisher has indeed contacted him asking for compensation for Lose control that is accused of being copy of Wouldn't it be good , Nik Kershaw's 1984 megahit. "They can't prove it so they were just trying their luck" I guess. " There's no way they can prove it . Accidents happen and there might be some similarities in the melody line but the songs are otherwise completely different. " Waldo is not scared but thrilled. "I passed the request to my label's lawyers and their answer to the British was: Go ahead and sue us! I think that would be just awesome PR before Moscow! " Listen and judge yourself here. I still can't make myself to find any particular similarities.

Wouldn't it be good to Lose control?

Estonians are trying to make a plagiation scandal. They claim the chorus in the Finnish winner Lose control is actually taken from Nik Kershaw's hit from the 80's, Would it be good... Oh well...
