Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

It's the time again: Blogilkar's home jury of Eurovision fans, non-fans and common viewers from teenagers to nearly 60 years old have watched and listened giving points from 1 to 10 plus a special 12 points to be awarded to the one favorite. In case of a tie the ranking was done by highest points received by any juror(s). And yes, the result is somewhat surprising here and there. Last year our winner was NQ Czechia but the winner Switzerland was 2nd and runner up Croatia 3rd.  With the help of four 10s turned into 12s Finland's Erika Vikman came and won with ICH KOMME scoring 92 points from our home jury. That's a nice consolation to Erika who has been pretty much forgotten and ignored at home front after KAJ's win in Sweden, more about that in another post to come, stay tuned! She scored from us a seven and all the rest above. 

The Eurovision song contest 2023 runner up and televote winner by a margin, Käärijä's Cha cha cha from Finland after having topped the Spotify Global Viral chart for a couple of days climbs to number 7 in the official Spotif Global charts! It entered the Top-200 at number 151, climbed to 68 and now 7. This is the fist time evr a song in Finnish enters the Top-200! The daily streams since Eurovision grand final on Saturday have been nearly 2 million. Number one in Finland, Sweden (!), Iceland, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuamia. Numer two in Austria. Belgium, Norway, Ukraine, United Kingdom (!) and Poland. Number 3 in Ireland, Israel and so on. All I can say is cha cha cha (and please someone take it out of my head, it's been days I just go cha cha cha in any situation!)

Eurovision a career killer? Think twice! Armenia's entry this year, Snap by Rosa Linn - this blogger's favorites already back then in May and the one that's placement I predicted with the worst margin as I thought it was a Top-5 material - has become already a global hit with the help of TikTok and now it has climbed also on top of the official Finnish radio play chart in just seven weeks. It kicked off from the #1 spot Olli Halonen's Suomen kesä. He's claim to fame until now has been being a member of Satin Circus, the Finnish Eurovision national selection runner up in 2015. Meanwhile in Italy Rosa Linn has released the bilingual version with Alfa, a collaboration that started way before the song went viral and global hit. 

Ram pam pam, performed by BESS in UMK 2022, the Finnish national selection for Eurovision - placing third - has made history becoming the longest running #1 in the official Finnish radio charts, or being the most played song in the Finnish radios for 19 consecutive weeks already! It has reached according statistic 110 million listeners from April to August in a country of 5,5 million.  In the official singles chart Ram pam pam topped the charts for 10 consecutive weeks being the biggest hit along with Italy's Brividi of all national final songs this season in any country. It dropped out of Top-20 only last week after 34 weeks.  The previous record holder was Epäröimättä hetkeekään by Elastinen and Jenni Vartiainen. 

Everyone's reporting Måneskin global success on Spotify and not only but they are also doing some remarkable damage in the official Finnish charts.  This week they are Number One in still in the album charts with Teatro d'ira, vol.1 (eight weeks now, seventh at number one after debuting at #2). It also charted in the Physical album chart at #3. Chosen is number 3 (eight weeks now, peak at #2)  Ballo della vita is number 10 (eight weeks now, peak at #5) In the singles charts I wanna be your slave drops to number 2 (eight weeks total so far, 3 of them at #1 and 4 of them at #2).  Beggin' is at number 3 (seven weeks so far, peaking at #3 for the 3rd week, the others 2 weeks at ¤4, one at #5 after debuting at #10) Zitti e buoni is at number 5 (8 weeks total so far, peaking at #1 for two weeks and all weeks at top-5. In the radioplay chart it is now at #31 (eight weeks total, peaking at #26) Other charting songs were Coraline peaking at #5 (two weeks total in Top-20...

A total of 14 songs topped the official Finnish singles chart in the 2020 for anything between one week to an incredible 20 weeks. Nine of them were Finnish and the foreign one with the most weeks has a video directed by a Finn, namely Blinding lights . The queen of 2020 is BEHM who's Hei rakas  continued being number one also in 2020 after six weeks in the end of 2019 (and 12 in total in top-20 in 2019 and where it still stays in  week 53/20!). Her Frida has spent in the charts already 25 weeks in top-7 and spent 3 separate weeks at #1 and 15 weeks at #2! Tivolit spent 22 weeks in the top-20, three of them at #2. Her other seven album songs made the charts for a total of 34 weeks thanks to streaming.  If BEHM was the Queen then William was the King with 20 weeks on top with Penelope . The Weeknd was the real foreign contender and by the end of the year Vain elämää reality provided two #1 hits this season: Stig covering Arja Koriseva 's cover of Annikki Tähti 's cover ...

Despite her rather unsuccesful performance in the Eurovision song contest's interval in Tel Aviv, string of singles released so far and none of them really making an impact the album Madame X is proving a critical success and also one of her most fortunate ones in charts for a long, long time. It has become her 9th Billboard Top-200 number one album, and it topped the iTunes charts in 58 countries upon its release.  She's now only second to Barbra Streisand (she's got 11)  as a female artist, and above her are only besides Streisand The Beatles (19), Jay-Z (14) and Bruce Springsteen (11). Fun fact is Bruce Springsteen is #2 in the charts, just like in 1985 with their albums Like a virgin and Born in the USA . In UK they also top the charts but Springsteen takes the #1 spot, Madonna #2. Madonna is also the artist with most Top10s in all every Billboard charts combined: 163. Ultimo may say whatever he wants but Mahmood's Soldi hits #1 in Italian Spotify, iTunes, AppleMusic and enters Top40 in Global Spotify. And that's not all, he almost broke an all time Spotify record in Italy with 1.481.036 streams within 24 hours, only 118.217 shy of rappers Sfera Ebbasta and Ghali's record on May 4, 2018.  Not only Soldi enters the chart but also his previous tracks Gioventù bruciata (#23), Uramaki (#61), Anni '90 (#75), Milano Good vibes (#108), Asia occidentale (#130) and Mai figlio unico (#174), basicly all songs released by him so far.  Meanwhile Ultimo keeps burning bridges after his explosion and bad behaviour in the press conference post-festival where he basicly sent all the press to hell to fu*ck themselves and called Mahmood "that boy" and continued with insults in social media and didn't show up in Sunday's Domenica In , where most everyone was attented. A total of 18 songs made it to the number one in the official Finnish singles charts in 2017;  15 of them being Finnish! But as the Finnish ones, mostly various pop rapper, shot to the top and dropped out in a week or two mostly, the foreign ones stayed on top for several weeeks and months making a total of 30 weeks! The hugely popular Vain elämää's two seasons both gave us countless radiohits but only two made it to #1 (Nikke Ankara and Cheek with a Jari Sillanpää cover) last year, one from each series. The annual crazy day of Eurovision chart action is here. In iTunes there's a lot of action today. Portugal's winning entry has hit #1 spot in 14 different countries and is in Top-10 in additional 15 countries, charting altogether in 46 countries from Mozambique to Canada, from Kirkhistan to Hong Kong. Belgius is in charts in 34 countries (#1 in Belgium, Estonia and Austria). Bulgaria is #1 in Bulgaria and in charts in 32 countries. Moldova follows with 26 presence but no #1s, Sweden with 24 and no #1s. Wide chart action also my Norway, Hungary, Italy, Romania, France, Australia, Austria, UK, Cyprus, Israel, Croatia, Azerbaijan, Netherlands and Denmark with more than ten presence. Armenia, Greece, Belarus, Germany, Poland and Estonia also have a few, while Spain, Finland, Ireland, Ukraine, Switzerland and Latvia have just domestic support and maybe a couple of others.  In comparasion in Spotify Belgium leads with 14 countries, followed by Bulgaria (11), Portugal (10), ...

The 2016 was rich with Number One songs in the official singles chart. A total of 26 songs made it, and the most remarkable thing is 21 of them were Finnish! Sadly only Finnish (humour) rap though. The foreign number ones go to Alan Walker, Justin Bieber featured by Mazor Laser or DJ Snake, and Clean Bandit & co.  Elastinen and JVG are featured in four #1's, Mikael Gabriel, Sanni, Cheek and Arttu Lindeman in three and even Nikke Ankara in two. The Travellers have had an excellent and successful year 2016. They released their debut EP and all three singles of it made to number one in Maltese charts, the title track holding the position for seven consecutive weeks this summer. Just these past days they played their last gigs for the summer that couldn't have been more different from each other: on Saturday night one of the headliners at the sold out Rockestra charity event with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in the MFCC, and then tonight an acoustic concert in their home island of Gozo. This blogger had the pleasure of meeting Clayton despite their busy schedule last week and told they are heading back to studio and writing new songs to be released next year. A question pops up spontaneously: What about Eurovision? The answer is a cheeky grin and a vague "not in our plans". For the moment at least. Another year has passed and it's time to look back who managed to score a #1 hit in the official Finnish charts.... Once again the chart is dominated by foreign DJs and Finnish rappers and most every act has "feat." in it. But hey, one Eurovision entry is one of the biggest hits of the year: Vicky Rosti's Sata salamaa covered by Antti Tuisku in Vain elämää series. Also another cover from that series made it to number one: VilleGalle and Sanni doing Pave Maijanen's classic Lähtisitkö . And another Eurovision link is UMK host Roope Salminen having one of the summer hits.  Only 18 songs made it, and Finnish ones beat the foreign ones 10-8 :-) Check all their videos after the jump.... Another year, another series of hits. Which songs made it to number one in the official Finnish charts? Checking out the list its very clear it has been a year of "ft." as the infamous featuring is featured in 11 out of 22 songs. None of the songs managed to stay more than 4 weeks on top but there were five of those four-weekers, even if two of them did that with separate weeks. Anouk hasn't been around much in Malmö 2013, but why be if actions speak louder than words? She does her own thing on stage - a bit like Marco Mengoni for Italy does stressing the point this Eurovision 2013 was supposed to be, downscaling. No thrills and no gimmicks. This blogger keeps fingers crossed for those acts tonight. meanwhile Anouk has released her Sad singalong songs album and four great videos from it: Birds, Kill, The Good Life and Pretending as Always . Watch them here . Great stuff indeed! And yes, she could win tonight.... she is still number one in the Netherlands with it in both albums and singles, and certified platinum!

Vain elämää dominates still the charts and another song from the show hits the #1 spot before the end of 2012. This time it's Erin covering Cheek's Mitä tänne jää . This is their live  duet version and Cheek's original .  There are still six songs from the show in Top-20 plus last week's #1 one by Cheek & Jonne Aaron, both from the show but the song isn't. The album is firmly at the #2 after becoming the most sold album in Finland of the 2000's selling already 6xplatinum. The follow up album takes the #1 spot this week!  Meanwhile the stars of the show Katri Helena, Jari Sillanpää, Erin, Cheek, Neumann, Kaija Koo and Jonne Aaron have given sold out concerts in Barona Arena in Helsinki on December 28 and 30, 2012. The tickets sold out in less than an hour....

Vain elämää domination continues still. The compilation album sits firmly as #1 in the albums and Cheek takes the lead in the singles with his collaboration with Jonne Aaron, his Vain elämää fellow, with Anna mä meen. Cheek is also #2 with Puhelinlangat laulaa (Katri Helena), #4 with Tinakenkätyttö (Kaija Koo),  #13 Rakastuin mä luuseriin (Erin/Nylon Beat) and #14 Kaduilla tuulee (Jari Sillanpää). Erin takes Cheek cover Mitä tänne jää to #5, she's also at #10 with Vapaa (Kaija Koo), while Jonne Aaron is at #15 with Kylmä ilman sua (Kaija Koo) and Jari Sillanpää has another Cheek cover at #17, Liekeissä . And at #18 we still have one, Erin again with Vasten auringon siltaa (Katri Helena). That's 10/20 for Vain elämää songs/singers this week. 

Rihanna stays at number one in Finland this week with Diamonds for the second week. This is her second #1 in Finland after We found love .  But the real climber this week is Cheek thanks to Vain elämää reality. His songs or his versions are at number 7-8-9-17-19!!!

A new number one after four weeks of Korean domination here. Flo Rida climbs to number one with I cry . 

Now this is a surprise and a weird one, PSY's Gangnam style   (강남스타일) hits the number one in the Finnish chart this week as its debut. Must be the first South Korean artist in the charts, mind you at #1! Well, there's always a first for everything, right? And the other news is Loreen's out of Top-20 finally, after 27 weeks. Her visit here didn't give the single no more boost....
