Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Then they were two..... the looooong Armenian selection Depi Evratesil is nearing its final this Saturday, Christmas Eve for most of us but in Armenia business as usual it seems. Two ladies made it to the final: Marta from Anush's team and Artsvik from Essai's team.  Marta Kirakosyan teaches as State Song Theatre of Armenia and Artsvik Harutyunyan is a Russian-Armenian artist and has in the past participated in the Russian Voice back in 2013.  As said the final battle between the two ladies takes place this Saturday but it's yet unknown if they will perform their eventual entries or will they look for a song for the winner later. Armenia decided to be the complicated one this year with their  Depi Evratesil marathon that started months ago. It's prettty much like any The Voice/X Factor/Idols type reality show with the exception the winner goes to Eurovision and the judges/coaches/team leaders are all ex-Eurovision artists: Anush (2009, 2015), Hayko (2007), Iveta Mukuckyan (2016), Aram Mp3 (2015), Inga (2009) and Essai (2015). After endless auditions and second round eliminations each coach had their team of four ready for the next rounds: Aram MP3 — Lucy, Saro Gevorgyan, Jujo and Lilit Harutyunyan Inga — Suzanna Melkonyan, Gevorg Harutyunyan, Karina Harutyunyan and Narine Jinanyan Essaï — Opera Viva, Artsvik, Only Girls and Marissa Iveta — Christina Mangasaryan, Vahe Aleksanyan, Hasmik Siroyan and Sona Dunoyan Hayko — Egine, Anna Danielyan, Eva Kans and Amalya Margaryan Anush — Stepan Hovhannisyan, Marta, Alexander Plato and Anna Седракјан Then we had some duels and the losers wa...

Armenia has dusted the not so succesful idea of Six4One and has built a singing group of five singers, representing five continents: They are rumoured to be Tamar Kaprelian (America), Inga Arshakyan (Armenia, Asia), Athena Manoukian (Australia), Essai Altounian (France, Europe) and Vahe Tilbian (Ethiopia, Africa). All are Armenians working and living all over the world as you can see. Their song is titled Don't deny and will be presented later. Updates : It seems it's going to be six artists after all and they will be revealed one by one. Essai Altounian , Tamar Kaprelian and Vahe Tilbian confirmed so far. Stephanie Topalian flies to Asian flag as the fourth confirmed name and the first one not on the rumoured list. Neither is the next one, Mary Jean O'Doherty Vasmatzian as the Australian link. Who will be the last one?

September 21, 1991 Armenia or Հայաստանի Հանրապետություն (Hayastani Hanrapetut’yun) gained independance and to celebrate the event Inga & Anush of Eurovision fame have recorded a song My name is Armenia . A very colorful video was shot too featuring mainly young people born in 1991.

Armenia will choose internally its represant for Dusseldorf 2011. The council of arts in ARMTV will pick up the artist and then a song. Whoever it is will have a though job to keep up the excellent Armenian record in Eurovision since their debut in 2006 when André took Without your love to 8th place, Hayko followed suit with Anytime you need , Sirusho did better with Qele qele reaching 4th. Inga and Anush stayed in top-10 with Jan Jan and Eva Rivas scored 7th place with Apricot stone in Oslo 2010. Nothing less would be good enough and the last two years their rival Azerbaijan has beaten them in the scoreboard.... In beforementioned Azerbaijan things are going to the opposite direction. A lenghty selection process has already kicked off and out of 120 hopefuls 90 have been picked up for the televised weekly heats - 12 artists in each - and the winners will move on to the next stage. Eliminations and heat go on until February 2 when we should know the Azeri artists for Dusseldorf 20...

Armenia's entry could be one of the dark horses in this year's contest. Some people love it, some hate it but no one remains indifferent to it! Inga & Anush with their Jan jan (or Nor par aka The new dance ) mixes etno with pop and dance and the cocktail is quite interesting. The new mix has lost the original one's Ofra Haza likeness but it's still very catchy.
