EUROVISION 2024 DENMARK. SABA - SAND + DANSK MELODI GRAND PRIX 2024

Saba won the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 winning her ticket to Eurovision song contest 2024 with Sand. Over 600 submissions were made for the contest and DR also invited directly some acts for the selection. Eventually eight songs were chosen for the final with two voting rounds. Saba won the superfinal thanks to juries even if with televotes she was only third or last. Saba or Anna Saba Lykke Oehlenschlæger (26) is a newcomer to the pop stardom, but she has already done career as model, singer and in music theater. She and her twin sister were adopted from Ethiopia at the age of 8 months and raised in Denmark. High school drop out the sisters went into teeth whitening business while her sister Andrea also pursued a career in singing and musical theater. Then Andrea got pregnant and Anna replaced her in musical Hair. The rest is history.  Sand is Saba's debut single and recording.  So, what do I think? First hearing left no impression but with further listening I have wa...

EUROVISION 2023: DENMARK - DANSK MELODI GRAND PRIX REVIEW

The Danish national final for the Eurovision song contest takes places next Saturday 11 (among many others). In the first round the top-3 voted by the public will go on to the second round of voting, this time 50/50 televote/jury vote. Denmark has won three times, last in 2014 and has since reached the final 3 (+1) times and hasn't 4 times. How will it go this time? Eyjaa - I was gonna marry him **** This Icelandic-Danish effort includes among others Greta Salóme in violin and string, and develops nicely, sounds lovely and reminds of some older Nordic entries. That piano, whistling, those vocals. All is very etheric, beautiful and could have listened this more than those three minutes. This could do Denmark pround in Liverpool. Frederik Leopold - Stuck on you *** Kind of groovy song Robin has in Finland, this one remind me of Toto for some reason?! More American maybe and more 80's clean cut studio sound. And in all that rather anonymous, kinda nice to listen to while this is o...

EUROVISION 2022: DANSK MELODI GRAND PRIX 2022 REVIEW

Denmark is one of the four countries having its national final for the Eurovision song contest 2022 this Saturday. There will be pre-voting online added to the votes on the night. The top-3 will then have a super final with zeroed votes. Denmark, just like Germany, seems to be a bit lost in their search for success. If I remember correctly they have the submission window open all year and these eight are the ones they came up with? Might be something wrong with the jury then. Or what do I know? Nice though there are quite a few songs in Danish! Patrick Dorgan - Vinden suser ind ** Quite nice voice and quite nice beginning but it takes two full minutes until anything happens really. And that's a long time at Eurovision. And what happens isn't much. Shame.  Confessions - Hallelujah ** Sounds very familiar. If you asked me I'd say the chorus is from some advertising for sanitary towel or something. Completely forgettable but pleasant at the same time. Could come alive live, or...

DENMARK: FYR OG FLAMME FOR EUROVISION 2021

The Danish national final Dansk Melodi Grand prix 2021 has had its minor scandal when they didn't invite last year's winners back. Who in turn made it very clear they didn't want to take part in a national final again but be selected internally. Then the new finalists were announced. And they came public with a song they had submitted. And not being accepted. Oh the drama in fandom! But truth to be said, it wasn't that good. But tonight there were eight songs, three made it to the superfinal and in the end pre-contest favorites Fyr Og Flamme won with  Øve os på hinanden . Chief 1 & Thomas Buttenschøn - Højt over skyerne came 3rd and Jean Michel - Beautiful was 2nd.  FINAL RESULTS: 1. Fyr & Flamme   37% 2. Chief 1 &  Thomas Buttenschøn   29% 3. Jean Michel    34%

DENMARK: DANSK MELODI GRAND PRIX 2021 TONIGHT

Denmark is one of those countries that simply sacked their last year's winners and went on with a new selection without granting any wildcard to them whatsoever. On the other hand Ben & Tan early on made clear they're not interested taking part in another national final - until a few weeks ago when they told they actually did sent a song but were not selected. Oh #drama. Eight songs are in the run tonight and three will make the second voting round where from the public will vote out the winner. Chief 1 & Thomas Buttenschøn - Højt over skyerne * Well, I do love the Motown sound but have a low tolerance of its abuse. This being in Danish and apparently humorous (?)  doesn't help things one bit. No. Just no. Nanna Olivia - Hvileløse hjerter ** Is this Denmark's Anna Puu? Or a demo for her? She would have done this so much better The Cosmic Twins - Silver Bullet ***** The 80's revival continues and this makes me think of likes of Alphaville. I actually do like ...

EUROVISION 2020: BEN & TAN SAY YES TO DENMARK

Denmark had its DMGP 2020 final last night in an empty Royal Arena in Copenhagen due to the Coronavirus outbreak. One of the pre-contest fan favorites Ben & Tan won it easily while another fan favorite (mine, too)  Human  failed miserably. Benjamin Rosenbohm (17) and Tanne Amanda Ballcells (22) met while doing The Danish X Factor.  Such a shame the missing audience as the stage and production was beautiful. I just really don't agree with the Top-3 at all.... but so it usually is with Denmark and me.  After first round of ten member jury and televotes the Top-3 went to a Superfinal with only televote. Superfinal: 1. Ben & Tan - Yes  2. Sander Sanchez - Screens 3. Emil - Ville ønske jeg havde kendt dig First round: 1. Ben & Tan - Yes  2. Emil -  Ville ønske jeg havde kendt dig 3. Sander Sanchez - Screens 4. Maja & De Sarte Sjæle -  Den eneste goth i Vejle 5. Kenny Duerlund - Forget ...

DENMARK: DANSK MELODI GRAND PRIX 2020 TONIGHT

Denmark will have its final tonight. And there's reason to celebrate as it's the 50th time and thus the show moves back to Copenhagen and there's also the return of the live orchestra that will accompany each artist in varying capacity. There will be a ten member jury (50%) and televote (50%). The top-3 will then move on to the superfinal, voted by the same method. But then the celebrations and the whole is wasted on live public as DR has decided the show must go without pubvlic due to corona virus. How about all those people who travelled to Copenhagen? Took flights? Paid hotels and stuff? Nice. I guess they can kiss their money goodbye.... I have listened and judged the songs here when they were released and haven't listened them since....  Isam B - Bølger Ben & Tan - Yes Maja & De Sarte Sjæle - Den eneste goth i Vejle Benjamin Kissi - Faith Emil - Ville ønske jeg havde kendt dig Sys Bjerre - Honestly Jamie Talbot - Bye bye heaven...

DENMARK: HERE ARE THE DMGP 2020 FINALISTS

After the sort of regional mini semi-finals and added wildcard we have now also the internally preselected finalists so the line up is ready. Among the songwriters Tom Schou & Esben Svane of A Friend in London for Emil, Isam B co-wrote the 2012 entry Should've known better , Eurovision winning Lisa Cabble for Jasmin,  Beatboxer RoxortLoops was a member of Witloof Bay for Belgium in 2011. All in all rather un-Danish final I must say but still rather unimpressing. Most songs are "nice" as usual but maybe missing the proper hook or something to make it stand out. The staging will be once again rather crucial with live vocals. Who will make it then? With my first listening Jasmin Rose, Benjamin and Kenny were the only ones I cared to listen to the end.  Special mention to Den eneste goth i Vejle , a nice follow up to Fra Mols til Skagen .  Ben & Tan - Yes (East Denmark qualifier) *** Benjamin Kissi - Faith  *** Emil – Ville ønske jeg havde k...
