FINLAND: EUROVISION WINNER OX LEAVES LORDI

Eurovision winner 2006 Lordi is losing another member of its winning formation. After Kita (2000-2010) and Awa (2005-2012) also Ox (2005-2019) is leaving the band after this summer's festivals. In the band's website he says there's no drama or major issues. He only has a strong urge to do something else in music and be available for new adventures. He thanks the band and the world's best fans for this 13 years long journey. Ox aka Samer El Nahhal is half Egyptian and he has studied in Los Angeles Musicians Institute. He spent part of his childhood in Libya and Irak wherefrom they fled when the war started. Kita or Sampsa Astala has been active after Lordi with his band Stala & So and they even participated in the Finnish national final back in 2010 - that got him fired from Lordi actually. He also plays in several other bands, plays drums and does backing vocals besides writing and producing songs for others. Awa aka Leena Paisa left Finland and moved to ...

FINLAND: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO AWA!

Lordi's Eurovision keyboard player Awa's alter ego Leena Peisa has her 38th birthday. Congratulations! She has left the monster family in summer 2012 but will always remain in our hearts as the wonderful Lady Awa from Athens 2006.....

LORDI UNMASKED: MONSTERMAN DOCUMENTARY CONTROVERSY

The new Lordi documentary got its premiere this Friday in Rovaniemi but the band boycotted the it as it seems Mr Lordi and the others are very unhappy with it, and based on what he writes in an open letter in Facebook he has all the reasons to be so! He says the band provided hundreds of hours of material to the director that they wanted to be included: the tours, backstage, making the costumes, writing the songs, photo sessions, building the stages, the happy times with success, fans, gigs abroad... all that is absent and the documentary concentrates only on the bad times and negative things about their story. Mr Lordi states he understands the director's decision for film's drama line but underlines it shows only one side of the coin. He also wishes there would be material they provided from the pre-success period, denies he was bullied at school and that his mother makes any decisions - in fact he tells her mother has nothing to do with the band and her presence was direc...

CRITICS LIKE LORDI AGAIN

Lordi seems to be getting finally some good words from critics with their new album To beast or not to beast ( listen a sampler ). For example Sue magazine gives it 9/10 and also features a long interview with Mr Lordi.  It's more metal than the previous ones and makes a clear difference to the precedent partyheavy album Babez for breakfast in 2010. The band may finally be able to brush off the Eurovision clowns image they have been suffering ever since 2006 by some critics and fans. But they seem to have made a peace with that, too, as they performed in the Irish antional selection 2013 and di Hard rock hallelujah instead of the new The riff . I kinda like Candy for the cannibal and  The year 2012 was ment to be band's jubilee year but it all changed when the drummer Otus died in February. ”The news reached me before I was told about it ” he recalls. ”it wasn't surprising, the timing was. It was a fact he wouldn't live to 60, but that he didn't even m...

AWA LEAVES LORDI!

Lordi loses another member, but this time one that was in the Eurovision winning formation, namely keyboardist, the lovely lady Awa. Simerock on August 11, 2012 will be her last live appearance with the monster band. In Lordi's official website she tells: ”Playing in the band has been an incredible experience and clearly one of the best times in my life. I have always been very fond of Lordi, its music and image, and will surely be following news about it closely. The band and the crew were and will always be a second family to me and I will be missing them and our fans greatly. However, seven years in the band has been physically and emotionally very demanding. You have to be in a band like this 100 %. If you are not able to do that anymore, you have to let go and give space for something new.” The band has already her replacement ready who will play on Lordi's next studio album planned for 2013 spring release. Earlier this year Lordi changed their drummer after ...
