Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  Another week, another dose of #Finpop 2026. With the Big guns this time. Lauri Haav, Nelli Matula, Jenni Vartiainen and Robin Packalen - all familiar established names. Enjoy! Another year, another year of official singles chart number ones! the rappers dominate the charts many hitting the #1 spot only for a week. the weeks and weeks lasting hits are missing this year except for KAJ's Bara bada bastu with 7 weeks, the others don't go further than 4 at most. Same names scored short runs for their #1s: Averagekidluke (4), Lauri Haav (4), JVG (3), Isac Elliot (3), Mirella (2), Turisti (2) and Ares (2) Obviously the radioplay chart is completely different and you can find it here. It's also worth mentioning ALL number ones are by Finnish artists. If some thought beforehand this season's Vain elämää wuld be all about Käärijä it has all been proven wrong. He's still going strong but the real revelation is Lauri Haav. If he was most known for common people outside his fan bubble for taking the people's choice Emma award in 2023 when everyone thought it would go to Käärijä no doubt he's now experiencing the same that happened to Cheek back in 2012 when Vain elämää made him a household name and the biggest artist of the decade and he conquered not only his fans but kids and grannies alike. (Cheek retired on top in 2018) Lauri Haav (or Haavisto, 27) released his first EP in 2019. Three albums to date, the last #1. He has five #1 singles to his credit so far, two of them from Vain elämää and two of them with Mirella. As the genre is he has often collaborated in vocals with others artists in his songs including before mentioned Mirella, Emma & Matilda, pehmoaino, MD$, Etta, Gettomasa, Sonia, Costi, JVG, Shrty and Pa...

Vain elämää, the Finnish versison of originally Dutch The Best Singers has reached its 16th edition featuring quite a fresh and young cast including Käärijä, Viivi, Johannes Brotherus of Kuumaa from UMK, Lauri Haav and Vesta with more seasoned Jonna Tervomaa, Mikki Kauste of Egotrippi and Pelle Milhjoona. In further episodes there will be guests like Marion Rung (ESC 1962, 1973 - Imagine Käärijä belting out Tipitii for example - and Pepe Willberg. In each episode said artists perform a new version of their choice from the day's artist's repertoire. (Update: Sadly Käärijä didn't attend these last episodes as he was performing in Japan instead!) I already posted the Official singles chart #1's here , and it's time to check out the Radio play charts that often featured very different songs. And as the singles chart was all Finnish but the Wham's Christmas #1 the situation is not different here: Only one song, in the last week, too, made it to #1 and that was Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars! Only 12 songs made it to #1 as most of the year they kept going up and down and switching places at top. UMK Sara Siipola scored #1 here, as did UMK veterans BESS and Benjamin together, and BESS with Elastinen as well. Also another UMK veteran Robin Packalen scored his biggest hits in years. And if Mirella dominated the Singles chart being on top for 25 weeks here she did with two songs for six weeks. BESS was the Queen here with her 16 weeks on top! The 2024 year in music started with AHTI's Väärään aikaan (feat. Hugo) sitting at #1 spot for the 5th week in a row. Then came Mirella going straight to #1 in week 2 starting off a spectacular year for this newcomer. Four number one hits and 25 weeks at number one spot! A total of 12 Top-20 hits off her #1 debut album. Check out the Radio Play charts here It was also a year of duets and collaborations while UMK 2024 artists Sara Siipola and Sexmane scored a joint #1 (when their UMK songs stopped at #2 and #4), as did hostess and interval act Pilvi Hämäläinen. And good old Wham! scored a Christmas number one being also the ONLY foreign act to do so. The rest was then pretty much various (pop) rappers as usual. All in all the songs that made it to #1 are all quite melodic and good and deserved their success, unlike in many times in previous years when I personally wasn't so keen on those that made it to the top many times. The past three years the most streamed song on Spotify in Finland has been an UMK entry but not anymore in 2024. Newcomers Mirella, Hugo and Ani took over but Kuumaa was still the second most listened act in general, Sexmane 5th. Their both latest albums made also the list of most listened albums: Pisara meressä (1.) and Hyvikset ja pahikset (6.) The most listened artist was however Turisti , followed by Kuumaa, Mirella, Gettomasa , Sexmane , Ibe , Costi , Taylor Swift, Isac Elliot and Lauri Haav .  1. Mirella - Timanttei 2.  This week's #Finpop offers fresh sounds from some of the hottest new names in scene like ANI, Viivi, Mirella and Lauri Haav with Isac Elliot and Italian origin Sebastian NOTO. And that's not all, two of these videos are shot in Italy, and one is even named Italia.
