Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  Another week, another set of possible #UMK2025 wannabes with their resent #finpop 2024 releases. First we have already established artists Elias Kaskinen and Nelli Matula who are in fact married! They are yet to release something together in duet but I would say these two songs are a kind of distant duet. Then we have Janna, from my eternal wish list for Eurovision, and finally a new name and face, Edvin. Another week, another dosse of #Finpop2024 with some summery sounds even if here in Finland the summer's nearing the end. Two duets by already well known names Janna with Keko Salata and Finnish-Italian NOTO with UMK veteran Mikael Gabriel.   And last but not least some artists that are more of a wistful thinking and maybe not fitting any other category but being more or less known/upcoming/popular/possibly interested in Eurovision as a career move. Yle is going internal again in 2019 and it will be very curious to see who they choose (or get) after Saara Aalto - will they go for big international name or something big in Finland.  Or someone new and emerging? Janna is singer-songwriter, musician and daughter of singer Maarit and musician Sami Hurmerinta. Her mother was a regular in the Finnish national finals in the 70s and represented Finland in festivals in Poland and Bulgaria, among others. And her greatgrandfather is Italian musician Michele Orlando. But despite that she shines on the Finnish pop and soul scene on her own right. She started her career in late 2000's with two albums in English but the big break came in 2014 when she released her third album in Finnish. In 2018 she was nominated in Emma gaala as the Female artist of the year but sadly lost to Evelina. It's September and the Eurovision 2018 season is officially on. I will feature in coming days names that could be in UMK18, if only...... I say if only, as most likely we won't see any of them in there for UMK is profilied as a newcomers contest instead of being our own Sanremo or Melodifestivalen. In short: a major contest all the big names want to take part not only to win but to boost their record sales and score hits. But one can dream, right? Emma, the Finnish Grammy award nominations have been revealed today. Among the various nominees in different categories we have Softengine , the band that scored 11th in Copenhagen Eurovision 2014. They have been nominated as the newcomer of the year, and they are also among the nominees in the People's Choice award. In newcomers they fight it againt Arion , from UMK 2013. Jari Sillanpää has three nominations: Schlager album of the year, Male artist of the year and he's also listed for People's Choise. Another Eurovision veteran Katri Helena is still going strong; she scored also nomination in Schlager album of the year and also Female artist of the year. Diandra , Idol winner and UMK participant is also nominated for the Female artist of the year and People's Choice. Finally we have Tango King and national selection participant Amadeus Lundberg up for Peoples Choice. Also UMK judge Redrama and national final participant Samuli Edelmann are nominated. The...

Janna has won the Finnish selection for the OGAE Song Contest 2014 with her first Finnish language single Sä et ole hullu (You are not crazy). The song was released last year and became a #2 hit on download, #3 in radios and #13 in singles chart. The follow up sngles have been Läpinäkyvä and Tytöt lähtee tanssimaan . Before this #1 self titled album in Finnish she has released two albums in English in 2007 and 2008 that were also released in some Asian and European countries.
