Two new superstar duets from Italy. Many fans dream came true when Annalisa announced a duet with Marco Mengoni while Irama's duet with Elodie came pretty much out of nowhere. Annalisa feat. Both have been delivering hits for years and while Mengoni has done Eurovision already twice Annalisa is yet to win Sanremo and do Eurovision. She's on most foreign Euroviison fans wish list for Italy already for years. Piazza San Marco is their join effort off Annalisa's new album yet to be released. Carlo Conti has revealed he listened 280 Big songs, meaning 250 songs didn't make the cut even if a total of 30 songs instead of 24 were chosen. As for the Newcomers 336 songs were submitted for AreaSanremo and 564 for Sanremo Giovani, that's a total of 1.180 songs.  But now as the names are out the betting has also started and in various betting sites the odds seem to be the same for the Top-4 as Elodie, Giorgia, Achille Lauro and Olly in different order, followed by Noemi, Irama and Francesco Gabbani. I personally would love to see Giorgia finally at Eurovision - even if apparently she'd be more likely to say "No, grazie"- or Elodie.  Some authors of the songs have been revealed. Apparently Carlo Conti couldn't decide so the 24 Big artists have become 30! Among them previous winners and Eurovision veterans Francesco Gabbani (2017), Massimo Ranieri (1988) and also Francesca Michielin (2016) and Achille Lauro (San Marino 2022). Other previous winners are Simone Cristicchi (2007) and Giorgia (1995), and among Newcomers Rocco Hunt (2014) and Clara (2024). Eurovision fan favorites Elodie, Coma_Cose, Irama and The Kolors are also back. If Massimo Ranieri (73) is back for the seventh time also another real veteran returns (finally): Marcella Bella (72). This will be her 10th Sanremo.  From last year we have again Clara, Rose Villain, The Kolors and Irama. For the first time ever we have in competition i Sanremo Brunori Sas, Emis Killa, Sarah Toscano (latest Amici winner), Dj and producer Shablo with rappers Gué and Tormento, Joan Thiele, Luco Corsi and Tony Effe. It's the holy week for Sanremo fans and yes, it is going to be looong nights from 20.45 to 1.30 from Monday to Friday and even 2.00 on Saturday. Plus all the extra minutes that will be needed as always. After two years of various restrictions Sanremo is back more or less to what it was in 2020, when it was just about the last big thing happening before the pandemic took over Italy and the world closing and cancelling most everything. Amadeus is in charge for the 4th year in a row and he has done better every year so pressure is on, but judging the list of singers he's got in there's no worries this year again will be a hit factory. And there's plentu on paper for Eurovision on mind, too. Marco Mengoni, maybe the biggest name on list along with Giorgia and Ultimo, has already declared he'd love to do Eurovision again and his song has become the one to beat after rehearsals.   If Sanremo dominates the charts all spring in the summer time the so called tormentoni take over the radio waves all through to autumn when the holidays are over. And some of those live on summer after summer and in this series I will always add one of those goodies. Let's start with Paola & Chiara's classic Vamos a bailar, a true evergreen already. And guess what? There's a rumour the sister might get back together! I have always hoped them doing Eurovision..... Sanremo 2023 in mind I hope! And one can't really not think about their Festival when listening to Tribale. And it's a good thing! Mahmood has released today the video for his latest effort Klan, already fifth single off his new album Ghettolimpo out next month. He certainly hasn't been doing nothing since placing second in the Eurovision 2019 behind Duncan Laurence with just a few points as this is his seventh official single besides several featuring here and there and co-writing song to other artists, like Elodie's Andromeda and this year's Sanremo runner up Chiamami per nome by Francesca Michielin and Fedez.  The video makes me think of some iconic Pet Shop Boys videos really...... 

Sweden scores a win in the OGAE Second Chance contest for the 16th time and it all makes it a bit boring really, don't you agree? Even if Anna Bergendahl with Kingdom come is a worthy winner and Finland's Erika Vikman and Italy's Elodie are the best possible runner ups in my opinion. Even more so as even if I like Anna a lot, this wasn't her best effort I think. Let's put it this way: the top-3 was my favorite, too, but the order could have been a bit different.  The results: 1. Tonight's the night: the 70th Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo kicks off its five nights marathon of music, guests, comic and everything in between. Come Saturday we have a winner and most likely the Italian entry for the 65th Eurovision song contest in May in Rotterdam, too.  Amadeus is this year's host and artistic director and by his side he will have every night also singer Tiziano Ferro and comic Fiorello. And a string of ladies that keep changing every night. Tonight they are Rula Jebreal, is an Israeli Arab foreign policy analyst, journalist, novelist and screenwriter with dual Israeli and Italian citizenship, and Diletta Leotta. a (sports) television presenter.  Tonight's guests include Eurovision veteran Emma and the cast of film Gli anni piú belli , a film directed by Gabriele Muccino where also Emma makes her acting debut in a feature film. We will also have Eurovision veterans Albano e Romina Power and Jessica Notaro with Antonio Maggio....
