Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Emma Gaala or the Finnish Grammy awards were celebrated in Espoo's Metro Arena a week ago and last year's most successful artist was Mirella who picked four out of six nominations (Artist of the year, Newcomer of the year, Song of the Year, Pop of the Year, Public's choice, Album of the Year) On top of that she was awarded The Most sold album of the Year and The most streamed Song of the Year. Several UMK artists were nominated and won awards. It's worth remembering three UMK entries have won The Song of the Year award in recent years: Dark side , Ram pam pam and Cha cha cha . Käärijä and Bess also have won The Artist of the Year award in 2022 and 2023, Kuumaa has won The Band of the Year now three years in a row (2022, 2023, 2024). The Finnish Grammys or Emma Awards were handed out last night in Espoo Metro Areena and as expected Käärijä swept all but one award he was nominated and some more. The one that slipped away scandalously was the Public's award that Lauri Haav's fans fixed for him instead. About 99% of people watching where mouth open with Who?! This blogger was left moth open as well, I know the name but can't say I know any of his song though...even if I think I have featured him in my #FinPop series.  Käärijä won five awards: Artist of the Year, Best New Act, Export of the year and Song of the Year and The Most streamed Finnish song for his Eurovision runner up Cha cha cha. The Emma awards, aka Finnish Grammys were handed out in a grand scala this weekend and UMK artists had a great success! This transformation of UMK songs and artists to mainstream award pickers, hit makers and most streamed ones in just a few years is still something unbelievable to one who has been following the Finnish national selection Euroviisut and then UMK for decades. It's astonishing. I still remember clearly how the entries maybe were not even recorded, definitely didn't chart or became hits or mind you were nominated and winning awards..... Not to mention all the guest like Erika Vikman! The Finnish Grammys aka Emma awards were handed out this weekend in Espoo's Metro Areena and between performances by likes of Jenni Vartiainen, JVG, Haloo Helsinki!, Antti Tuisku and other cream of the cream of Finnish music business right now the awards were handed out. Haloo Helsinki! picked up seveal ones, as did Cheek and Antti Tuisku. Last but not least, here are the nominees for the Female Artist of the Year. One real veteran, one recordbreaking looking for a trple, two who have gone solo from succesful duos and one that whose talent has blossomed in Vain elämää and will do amazing things in the future... I guess it's predictable this goes to Vesala, as Sanni winning it again would be a bit boooring. Kaija Koo might surprise but most likely not. I'd give this to Suvi Teräsniska, she has proven to be not only loved by public but also being a Talent in Vain elämää. Amazing singer and voice. Go Suvi! Erin (ex-Nylon Beat) returned to her successful solo career after three years of silence and two kids. Her solo debut back in 2011 sold triple platinum and had several hits, the second one sold platinum and gave her more hits and this one released last month has already Sydäntä särkee and Kohta hänen . Emma Gaala's Male artist of the Year nominees include some names from various reality music tv programmes, rappers and a surprise. I would give this one out to Mikael Gabriel as icing on the cake for his fabulous year and marvelous metamorposis. These are the nominess for the Newcomer of the year Emma, aka Finnish Grammy. Some real talent here and quite a few questionable ones, IMHO. But what do I know? Alma (20) made herself known in Idols three years ago where she finished 5th but then disappeared from the spotlight. She kept working and exploded this year with Karma , Bonfire and Dye my hair both nationally and internationally. Her debut album will be released in 2017 and the expectations are high, both by public and critics. Interesting talent indeed. She should just walk this category.  Arttu Lindeman (20) is a videoblogger and rap artist. Thanks to his huge following in web he has scored four Spotify #1s this year with Läikkyy , Faijas , Menee tunteisiin and Hukutaan . Fans like, critics don't. The Emma Gaala (aka Finnish Grammys) nominations are out. The People's choice and the best video are voted by the people, the other awards handed out by a jury. The gala will take place February 4, 2017 in Metro Arena in Espoo, the week after UMK2017... same stage.  This year's nomination queen is Vesala or Paula Vesala, ex-PMMP. She scored seven nominations: album, song, female artist, pop artist, producer, people's choice and video. Lauri Tähkä is the king with five: album, song, schlager album, male artist and people's choice. The Emma aka Finnish Grammy nominees for the Best Male artist include Antti Tuisku , who finally seems to have broken into a mainstream and wide audience favorite challenging Cheek and Robin as the nation's main hearthrob of the moment. Then there's Mikael Gabriel who's still not mainstream but appears all the time here and there also with his collaborations, and Juha Tapio , still holding strong and being the pet of the slightly older generations. Emma, the Finnish Grammy award nominations have been revealed today. Among the various nominees in different categories we have Softengine , the band that scored 11th in Copenhagen Eurovision 2014. They have been nominated as the newcomer of the year, and they are also among the nominees in the People's Choice award. In newcomers they fight it againt Arion , from UMK 2013. Jari Sillanpää has three nominations: Schlager album of the year, Male artist of the year and he's also listed for People's Choise. Another Eurovision veteran Katri Helena is still going strong; she scored also nomination in Schlager album of the year and also Female artist of the year. The Finnish Grammys or Emmas were given out last night in Espoo's Barona Areena and even if Krista Siegfrids didn't perform she pretty much stole the show in medias with her red carpet photos and her evil-rock n' roll-bat woman look! She also told her life is programmed by the minute until Malmö 2013 while she's prepairing for Eurovision and the party pop 'n roll album that will be now released already in May in time for the main event. And she's looking out for sponsors, too. As we know she funded her UMK performances from her own purse but apparently it's now empty and she needs help for Malmö! Anyone? Pretty please? PS. The Emma awards were give out last Friday again and I wrote about them here . But let's now take a look at the category of The Song of the Year. I was surprised Chisu wasn't even nominated in this one, but then she has won it already twice. The award went to Jukka Poika's Silkkii, and I totally agree. In this category the awards have been given out since 1996 under this name, before it there was The Schlager of the year or The composition of the year. And in 1988-1990 there was nothing for some weird reason! It is good to see now that the awards usually have gone to the right address as the songs are still here and alive.  And when the songs turn into English they are usually worldhits.
