Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Eurovision 2014 has been a success. The iTunes in various countries were taken over my the songs right after the final and today we got the new from the official UK charts; 13 songs from the show made the Top-100. The Common Linnets even enter the Top-10, is this a first for a non-winning, non-UK song? Anyways, even Finland's Softengine made it! Something better than that?  Maybe the over one million views of Youtube and over one million streams on Spotify?

The Icelandic guys of Pollapönk have No prejudice and support San Marino in the Eurovision 2014 in their colorful way. Maybe. Good luck Iceland!

Iceland chose No prejudice by Pollapönk. The song comes with a message but is hidden under a comedy act so it may be lost to European audiences, despite its change of language from Enga fordóma . In Iceland the band is liked by kids and adults alike, has won awards for their work against prejudices and they have a long history in various bands and combinations as mucisians. The line up is Haraldur Freyr Gislason, Heidar Orn Kristjansson, Arnar Thor Gislason and Gudni Finnsson. Backing singers are Snæbjörn Ragnarsson ( of metal band Skálmöld) and a Member of Icelandic Parliament Óttar Proppé. Robert: Although I kinda like the winning song of the Islandic preselection by Pollapönk, I totally fell for Guðbjörg Magnúsdóttir 's Aðeins ætluð þér but what happened here? It totally came last!!!! Yes, it is a traditional schlager song but hey, what is wrong with that in 2014?:) Am I getting old fashioned here? Or did it get last because it was written by Swedish comppsers? No fina...

The Icelandic national final Söngvakeppnin 2014 didn't promise much from the beginning - having only one song in the line up I liked in the end, Amor - and finishing having the two most annoying ones in the superfinal. We will be treated to some Icelandic humor in Copenhagen when Pollapönk offers us some colorful Enga fordóma . Surely rather entertaining to watch, but I'm pretty sure this will never end up in any of my playlists. Shame. Good luck anyways. Europe hasn't been very friendly to humor acts in the past and I doubt they will change now. Apparently the song has political undertunes and even mocks certain mr Putin, but as I haven't seen the lyrics translated anywhere can't be sure about that and if there's a message, it makes it sound a bit better - but if the message is lost in translation, it's pointless for the voters, or Europeans. Oh, Sigríður Eyrún Friðriksdóttir came second with Lífið kviknar á ný ... It isn't any better than the winn...
