Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  Käärijä surprises us once again releasing an EP with Sanni out of the blue titled Vitun hyvää joulua or Fucking merry Christmas. It features three songs Booty call, Hei me pärjätään (We'll be alright) and Sinkkumies (Single man).  Not so keen on Booty call but the other two tracks are great! Let me throw this in now: Sanni will be in UMK 2027, been expecting that for years already but now it seems more real than ever. Enjoy!

Finland chose its entry for Eurovision song contest 2025 in Basel in a show from Nokia Arena in Tampere. Some last minute drama was provided by Goldielocks and lost voice, as she was forbid by doctors to speak between dress rehearsal and the final. During the live show it was clear she couldn't sing and the show producers had decided in her favour to use the filmed rehearsal instead. Phew! As she had risen maybe the main contender to challenge Erika after One last morning withdraw/was disqualified taking away another one would only fueled more conspiracy theories against Yle. Finland will select it's entry for the Eurovision song contest 2025 tonight in Tampere's Nokia Arena. The 13th Uuden musiikin kilpailu has grown to be one of the best and most anticipated national finals over the past few years giving birth to year's biggest hits and has also turned Finland's fortunes in the competition. Once the underdog and one of the most unsuccessful countries we have now qualified for four years in the row for the final - a new record! - and scored two of our all time top-3 placements ever in 2021 and 2023, 6th and 2nd. A win is in the horizon? Six songs in the line up ( after one got disqualified or rather withdraw ) , all of them already a charting success ( read more here ) and a Top-10 hit. Biggest radio hit in 2019 so far.... and ever! Topping the chart for 14 weeks he replaced Jenni Vartiainen's Missä muruseni on (#1 for 13 weeks in 2010) as the song with most weeks at #1.  Benjamin's video was filmed in one shot and released late last year, but it's playing on radio only now.....

Another set of artist having success on Finnish radio waves this summer, that could be or not be suitable for #UMK2019 and Eurovision song contest 2019.... Pete Parkkonen has been around for years ever since Idols 4. He has sung in English and Finnish and even various genres but even if most everyone agrees he's one of the most talented performers  he hasn't quite make it as Big as he should be. Like previously presented Elias Koskinen also Pete won Tähdet tähdet variety show showing he's confortable with any genre and shines on stage. His most notable hit is Kohta sataa , with its video that made him a sex symbol overnight.... He's definately one card to consider... Kävi niin, kävi näin has been just released with its summer vibe.  Sanni has been scoring hit after hit the past few years, and caused quite a few scandals along the way with her frank lyrics.   It's September and the Eurovision 2018 season is officially on. I will feature in coming days names that could be in UMK18, if only...... I say if only, as most likely we won't see any of them in there for UMK is profilied as a newcomers contest instead of being our own Sanremo or Melodifestivalen. In short: a major contest all the big names want to take part not only to win but to boost their record sales and score hits. But one can dream, right? 84/120 Lauri Yrjölä scores a surprise second place in our little panel. Lauri is a singer-songwriter and guitarist. He has material enough for his debut album to be released, if everything goes well, and if he has time from playing with Isac Elliot, Sanni, Antti Tuisku and other top names, and in the bands Year of the Dog and Ottilia. But maybe it's time to step to the spotlight for real and #UMK17 is a good test for that. He's a late bloomer as he took guitar into his hand and started with music only when he entered high school.  His song is about contracts; how it is to search for easy life (aka Helppo elämä) but how it in the end gives you nothing. Being the only song in Finnish in competition he says he wants his arrangement and sound international but his lyrics in Finnish to make it more authentic, so he can truly sing them from his heart. And should he win, the song stays in Finnish! This is not his first time in UMK, he was already in Mica Ikonen's band b...

The 2016 was rich with Number One songs in the official singles chart. A total of 26 songs made it, and the most remarkable thing is 21 of them were Finnish! Sadly only Finnish (humour) rap though. The foreign number ones go to Alan Walker, Justin Bieber featured by Mazor Laser or DJ Snake, and Clean Bandit & co.  Elastinen and JVG are featured in four #1's, Mikael Gabriel, Sanni, Cheek and Arttu Lindeman in three and even Nikke Ankara in two. Last but not least, here are the nominees for the Female Artist of the Year. One real veteran, one recordbreaking looking for a trple, two who have gone solo from succesful duos and one that whose talent has blossomed in Vain elämää and will do amazing things in the future... I guess it's predictable this goes to Vesala, as Sanni winning it again would be a bit boooring. Kaija Koo might surprise but most likely not. I'd give this to Suvi Teräsniska, she has proven to be not only loved by public but also being a Talent in Vain elämää. Amazing singer and voice. Go Suvi! Erin (ex-Nylon Beat) returned to her successful solo career after three years of silence and two kids. Her solo debut back in 2011 sold triple platinum and had several hits, the second one sold platinum and gave her more hits and this one released last month has already Sydäntä särkee and Kohta hänen .
