Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

He's done it. And weeks before the Eurovision final. One can predict a few million views more in the Eurovision final weekend alone so Francesco Gabbani's Occidentali's Karma is well heading for 100 million views and more.... even before the final.... It's September 1, 2014 and from this day on you may hear potential Eurovision entries on radio or on internet as from now on they can be published according EBU. A bit like Poland last year that chose Donatan & Cleo's My Slowianie after it became a huge hit. It was originally released November 4, 2013. But the rules about publishing the songs varies also by local broadcasters. Some countries let them be uploaded and enjoyed by all on an early stage like Switzerland, some keep them unheard until the very last minute like Sweden. I haven't really kept track on national submission dates but for example Finland opens its submission today for a week only so if you want to take part in UMK 2015 you better hurry up! The same goes for Denmark where submission ends the same day. Sweden goes on until September 16 but then thousends of songs are expected there once again..... Meanwhile the 60th Eurovision song contest, to be held in Vienna's Wiener Stadthalle on May 1...

Poland returns to the contest after two skip years and has last seen in the final in 2008 when Isis Gee finished 24th. Donatan & Cleo released My Slowianie already in October 2013 and it soon got over 40 million views on Youtube. Slavic girls shaking what mama gave them surely has helped to achieve that. By public demand, it seems, TVP asked them to go to Eurovision and they accepted. Donatan (29) is a famous and succesful producer. He has been criticized for preaching pa-Slavism, paganism, satanism and promoting communism. A lot of -isms for one guy! Cleo (28) has a past in gospel choirs and X Factor. She's also a singer-songwriter and a painter.  Robert: Slavic girls, shake what your mama gave ya. What is this? I'm glad that Poland is back in the competition but this song is not my cup of tea, really. It is popular on Youtube but that has mostly to do with the videoclip i think. Poland returns to Eurovision after a break of two editions. And they make it big and viewer friendly. The song in question has had over 38 million views on Youtube and after being a huge hit in Poland is starting to get airplay also in Austria, Switzerland and Germany, it seems. And curiously it seems the Polish TV asked them after a public demand as they were flooded with suggestions and pleas to send Donatan and Cleo to Eurovision.... They asked, the artists in question were in game and here it is. My Slowianie / Slavic Girls . It's a parody of Slavic imaginary abroad and tongue in cheek lyrics to some modern beats. Most fans seem to be thrilled, some even screaming Winner! but this blogger thinks three minutes of chanting, hand clapping and half naked breasts isn't just enough. But a fun choice anyways.
