New music from Finland twice a week in this new series from the charts, radio play or just new names trying to make it. Enjoy! Irina ft. Antti Pitkäjärvi - En meistä meitä saa Yoki - Kiitos ja moi CatCat - Hengissä Rosi - Bye bye baby
Aikuinen (or Pekka Eronen) may not be a household name but he has written lyrics to other artists (Haloo Helsinki and Irina just to name a couple) so far and then he "had songs that were unsuitable for anyone else so I had to sing myself" as he puts it. He is also known as a movie critic. Writing music is a way of living for him, he would go nuts without it. His debut single Partajaana (liberally translates to Bearded Jane) got minor attention and he plans to go on with this kind of music that is melancholy but nice to dance to. If he wins he will bring that bearded single of his to Conchita Wurst, she'd propably appreciate it. But for #umk15 he offers us a drink called Kyynelten lahti (Bay of tears) Jack: Now I can completely understand that some people won't like this but I think it's cute. The video-clip is hilarious, weird and intriguing. I can't understand word and I know the song sounds rather dated although I do like it. I can't help myself...
The Finnish music scene has been dominated by female artists the past few years. First names like Jonna Tervomaa, Irina and Maija Vilkkumaa did pop rock, followed by more sophisticated Jenni Vartiainen and Chisu while Kaija Koo was always there in between. Then we have Jippu and Anna Eriksson who both have returned with a bang this spring. And they both have turned very dark! Jippu entered the album chart at #8 this week with her Väärinpäin lentävät linnut full of very personal songs about the very colorful life of this somewhat troubled and sensitive artist. This is her third album following the previous #1 album Kuka teki musta tän naisen four years ago. In between she scored cover hits in duet with Samuli Edelmann. And did you know Jenni Vartiainen is one of her closest friends? Here is Henki ja elämä and the title track . Anna Eriksson returns with her 7th studio album Mana in Finnish after the previous Garden of love album in English and went straight to #2 ...
And this post concludes my favourites in the Oulu music video festival 2011. You can vote for your favourite here . Kim Herold - Before I marry you Happoradio - Pelastaja Irina & Maija Vilkkumaa - Kunnon syy Jenni Vartiainen - Missä muruseni on Kim Herold , ex-model continues scoring smaller hits and using them in advertising, like this one. Happoradio also scores hit after hit while the rock ladies Irina and Maija Vilkkumaa re-recorded Irina's hit for her greatest hits compilation and made this fab video for it. And Jenni Vartiainen - yes she's here, too, and propably will this one, too!
YLE is hosting the annual Nenäpäivä (Red nose day) charity marathon tonight on its channels. Money will be connected all night long for the needy and top singers and actors will provide entertainement, amongst them Hanna Pakarinen, Kaija Koo, Maija Villkkumaa, Irina, Pete Parkkonen, Antti Tuisku, Johanna Pakonen, Veeti Kallio and Katri Helena who will break her long "holiday" away from the business before hitting the road again with Christmas concerts.
The annual charity concert for children's hospital will take place in Hartwall Areena on September 15, 2010 and once again the hottest Finnish pop names are there from Hanna Pakarinen to Apocalyptica , from Jenni Vartiainen to Cheek and Irina just to name a few. More names will be added for sure and there's always also a surprise foreign act to heat things up, last year it was Tokyo Hotel. Hanna and Apocalyptica have worked together in Black ice .

This set of ten songs is very good. Disco is here, so is Irina, Juha Metsäperä, Simo Silmu, Samuli, Mari... and Laura Voutilainen with the song that I personally is one of her best if not the best! 161. This part is rather poppy and Eurovisionary with Katri Helena, two Kirka songs, Mikael Konttinen's fine Ota kiinni and Annika Eklund's follow up to Shanghain valot - almost a part 2 if you ask me! 171. ENKELEITÄ ONKO HEITÄ - ANNE MATTILA 172. YÖ - YÖ 173. TEETÄ JA PAAHTOLEIPÄÄ - NELJÄNSUORA 174. MINÄ TOIVON - KATRI HELENA 175. POKKA - IRINA 176. OLET MUN SÄ VAIN - AGENTS 177.
