Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Ops, they did it again! Sanremo 2022 started with a bang: 54,7% share, an average of 10,9 million people watching, especially young folks (71% of 15-19 yrs old and still 65% of 15-34 yrs old) with peak of 16,5 million and the best start of these three Amadeus era Sanremos that have been highly successful in every sense. Last night's show even almost stayed in schedule and the flow was good, no dull moments but a steady flow of things happening and songs being performed. Well done! Amadeus co-hostess tonight is Lorena Cesarini, Fiorello might be there or then not.  The Eurovision song contest hosts in Turin might be announced or then not. The rumor is they are Laura Pausini, Alessandro Cattelan and MIKA. At least MIKA has been spotted in Sanremo already yesterday. But Arisa and Malika Ayane are there to launch the voting for the XXV Olympic Games anthem, and Laura Pausini anyways to present her new song Scatola . Gaia Girace and Margherita Mazzucco are back to Teatro Ariston to prom...

Here it is finally! It looks like Sanremo has finally taken the crown off Melodifestivalen as the most anticipated national selection show. Which it isn't really but that's a minor detail for fandom. Makes me think of this blog's early years when Italy hadn't yet returned to Eurovision and I was pretty alone following and blogging about it. Oh well, things change. I will be watching as always, blogging along and reviewing the songs as they happen. Amadeus is the artistic director, the Godfather of Måneskin's global success. Next to him as always Fiorello and tonight's prettist host is film star Ornella Muti. Musical guest stars are of course Måneskin, and Meduza. Add tennis player Matteo Berrettini, actors Raul Bova, Nico Frascati and Claudio Gioè. Sanremo 2022 rules and other info has been revealed. There are changes to voting, and next year there will 24 Big artists, two of them coming from the Newcomers Sanremo Giovani 2021 selection that is the biggest change really, or no more two different categories. This isn't anything new either as already 2019 this was tried out and gave us Mahmood.  For the Giovani selection there were 711 submissions out of which 30 acts will be invited to live auditions on November 8 in Rome. A special invitation there is also for Castrocaro winner Simo Veludo . Eight of them will make to the televised selection in December, with addition of four acts from Area Sanremo. That's doubled to previous years when only two made it that way. Each of the chosen ones has had to have two songs ready already and has input in decision; one for the Giovani selection and one new one for the Sanremo itself.  As already common, the same phrase is in the rules: The winner goes to Eurovision if only has agreed...

  Sanremo Giovani will take place tonight and by the end of the evening we will know the lucky ones who will get to the stage of Teatro Ariston in March, including the two from AreaSanremo selection. And that's not all: also all the 26 Big artists will be revealed tonight along with their song titles. And they all will be also present in the studio!
