EUROVISION 2024: SEMI-FINAL ONE - THE DAY AFTER

"Here we are back in Sweden. I know, don't blame me, I voted for Finland as well." That's how Petra Mede and Edward af Sillén the scriptwriter decided to open the 2024 Eurovision song contest in Malmö. Just gotta love them both. And yes, today's news is Käärijä will perform in tomorrow's second semi-final besides giving the Finnish jury's votes in Saturday's final.  Another fun moment was the Grindr joke. If there's something good in Sweden's Eurovision it's Petra and Edward. This is Petra's third time (Edward has quite a few more) as host of the show. First alone in 2013 after Loreen won and the contest was in Malmö, sounds familiar? Then she did 2016 in Stockholm with Måns Zelmerlöf and after solo, with a man she's now trying a woman, actress Malin Åkerman and it works beautifully. Petra keeps delivering those little jokes here  and there with stoned face and Malin plays the more serious role. The scandal 1 of the evening is Eri...

SWEDEN: TUSSE WILL BRING VOICES TO EUROVISION 2021

Tusse took a clear victory in Melodifestivalen 2021 final winning both jury and televotes against all wishes by the usual fandom that wanted Eric Saade or most of all Dotter simple because who they are, no matter what they sing. Readers of this blog know I'm not so fond of Mello finding it very overrated and in my opinion the best song won this time. It had some realness in it, a catchy melody and hook and Tusse sung better than most. And yes, Dotter was beaten by The Mamas again by one point! Why do I find that rather amusing? Full results: 1. Tusse - Voices (jury 79 + televote 96) 175 2. Eric Saade - Every minute (69 + 49) 118 3. The Mamas - In the middle (50 + 56) 106 4. Dotter - Little Tot (57 + 48) 105 5. Clara Klingenström - Behöver inte dig idag (39 + 52) 91 6. Klara hammarström - Beat of broken hearts (43 + 36) 79 7. Danny Saucedo - Dandi dansa (39 + 35) 74 8. Charlotte Perrelli - Still young (32 + 28) 60 9. Arvingarna - Tänker inte alls gå hem (22 + 22) 44 10. Alvaro Estr...

SWEDEN: MELODIFESTIVALEN 2021 FINAL TONIGHT

The Mamas could become the 27th artist from 2020 season to have it another go this year, if they win tonight Melodifestivalen 2021. Besides them Eurovision 1999 winner Charlotte Perrelli (1999, 2008) and veterans Eric Saade (2011) and Arvingarna (1993) are in, with previous fan favorites and runner ups Dotter (2020) and Danny Saucedo (runner up for both Eric Saade 2011 and Loreen 2012). Another favorite is Idols 2019 winner Tusse and a total outsider against all odds Clara Klingeström. The songs are the usual Mello mix, polished but rather uninteresting and soulless perfection with thought after stagings but at least this year it's quite open and interesting to see who eventually wins.  Danny Saucedo - Dandi dansa *** Klara Hammarström - Beat of broken hearts ** Anton Ewald - New religion ** The Mamas - In the middle ** Paul Rey - The missing piece * Charlotte Perrelli - Still young ** Tusse - Voices **** Alvaro Estrella - Baila baila *** Clara Klingenström - Behöver inte dig idag ...

EUROVISION - BEST OF THE DECADE: SWEDEN

Let's continue the series and kill some time having a look at the last decade and see who were the Top-10 best scoring countries in the Eurovision song contest in the past ten years. The ways to calculate are many and here I have used the simple average placement method (and it's not all so serious). Number one is of course Sweden. Two wins, two bronzes and four additional top-7 finishes makes Sweden the most succesful Eurovision country in the 2010's, the only odd one out being the home entry in 2013 (14th). But let's see how long this will last; fandom isn't anymore equally mesmerized by Melodifestivalen and the Swedish entries, and certainly not the televoters in the recent years while the juries still back them up no matter what. This blogger has pretty much lost interest in Melodifestivalen the past few years to be honest, and think Sweden's been overrated for way too long. But times are changing, let's see how their 2020's will be. I persona...

EUROVISION: NEW SOUNDS FROM UZARI, ERIC SAADE, MASOE, HELENA PAPARIZOU

Que Dieu me pardonne

SWEDEN: INGROSSO-SANDMAN IS THE NEW SAADE-SAUCEDO

Once upon a time we had Eric Saade and Danny Saucedo competing against each, kissing it good  and also shared girlfriend Molly Sanden - separate times thankfully!  These days we have younger version of them in Benjamin Ingrosso and Felix Sandman. Also they scored the top-2 in Melodifestivalen, became kissing good friends and are now touring Sweden together. No Molly in between them but a lot of bromance. They even released a song together, Tror du att han bryr sig . Now they both have a new song out....  Meanwhile Danny is out with a Latin flavored number Undantag that fits his Bolivian roots,  while Eric's latest offering is from last summer, Another week .

AUTUMN SOUNDS FROM ELHAIDA DANI, ERIC SAADE, DIMA BILAN AND LARA FABIAN

Albanian Elhaida Dani is out with a new song  Më Mbaj or Keep me. She has written the song herself and is writing and recording her new album in Italy in both Italian and English, but this one's strickly in Albanese. Beautiful. And kinda melancholy. The late summer/early autumn blues continues with Eric Saade 's Another week . Released already some time ago but it has proven to be a real earworm and pops into your head when you last expect it.... and comes with quite a Swedish party video, too! Dima Bilan 's latest is  Держи (Hold). The Russian superstar continues to deliver radio friendly pop tunes and this is another one, a bit groovier and poppier than most lately though. And the video is shot in oh, so fashionable Portugal. And must be sponsored by the car manufacturer.... Lara Fabian has already released a second single Choose what you love most (And let it kill you) off her new album Camouflage , but this first single Growing wings is stuck i...
