Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  This time let's have a UMK/Euroviisut special. Annika Eklund placed 3rd with Shanghain valot in the Euroviisut aka national selection in 2006 but it has become an evergreen and it was featured in this new version in UMK final with Annika, Eini, Keira, Bess, Laura Voutilainen and Linda Lampenius. Markku Aro of ESC 1971 has released a new track and is still actively performing and touring. Tina Petterson of Beat and ESC 1990 fame continues to release self written music and finally we have Waldo's People's ( ESC 2009 ) latest effort for the summer. Enjoy!   Almost there. Here's Jenni Vartiainen's comeback (she's heavily rumored for UMK 2024 as well), as is Mikael Gabriel's. Then we have a remake on Eurovision 2006 wannabe and fan favorite by Annika Eklund, and finally another goodie from Eurovision veteran Darude's new album.   Here we go again with this more schlager-ish set of songs including already familiar ones Mikko Harju and Jesse Kaikuranta with their latest efforts, newcomer Henna and finally Annika Eklund, a fan favorite from Euroviisut 2006  with her Syksyn sävel entry. Syksyn sävel competition is here again. The one that was a real hit machine in the 1970's and 1980's where as the national Eurovision selection Euroviisut was a real let down with songs no one listened and with songs that weren't even recorded by the artists. With a few exceptions of course. Syksyn sävel was where known artists went with their hits aiming for commercial success, a sort of Melodifestivalen in fact. After a break Syksyn sävel has made a couple of comeback attempts but if last year offered a few goodies and was sort of promising effort this year's offering is something else. Several previous hit makers and winners whose career is pretty much gone and dead is trying again after decades but anything different or a bit modern was voted out by the public. A vanishing public I should add as the contest is broadcast on a random small channel aimed for old and religious folks and near bankruptcy apparently. Syksyn sävel may be dead but UMK has been delivering hug...

Atlético Kumpula takes its name from a neighborhood in Helsinki where the guys come from. The band is made of Kyösti Salokoski, Janne Friman (Freeman's son. He took part in UMK last year), Valtteri Pöyhönen, Samuli Luoma, Miikka Paatelainen and Rasmus Pailos. Kyösti has written their song Paperilyhty (Paper lantern). He's no stranger in Finnish music business as he has been writing songs to many top artists like Jenni Vartiainen, Annika Eklund (incl. Shanghain valot ) and Mikael Konttinen and is also known from Scandinavian Music Group. The guys have already played together in various bands and combinations over the years and released their debut album in spring 2012. Their folk sound is mixed with 60's schlager. Kyösti tells when he moved back to his childhood quarter this kind of songs started pouring out of him that he wanted to sing himself and do them just the way he wanted to do them. Alexander Rybak has confirmed he will be the guest in MTV3's summer show Pitkä kuuma kesä on July 12. He will perform Fairytale with his backing dancers in live broadcast from Särkänniemi amusement park in Tampere. Meanwhile he stays at number 1 in the Finnish download chart for the fourth week in a row, and his album debuted at number 17. Alexander is not the only Eurovision artist there this summer. This week Hanna Pakarinen and Tapani Kansa will be there, on June 21 Jari Sillanpää and Annika Eklund , on June 28 Russian girlband Princessa Avenue from the Russian selection this year (with a Finnish production song), July 7 Pave Maijanen . The latest Finnish Idols winner Koop Arponen will share the spotlight with Alexander that week.

Euroviisut fan favourite Annika Eklund returns with her third album Valonarkaa . In 2006 she came 3rd with fan favourite Shanghain valot behind the monsters Lordi and Italian singing tenor Tomi Metsäketo. She is also nominated for Iskelmä Finlandia award this year, and has already scored two radio hits from this album: Julia jäi henkiin and Valonarkaa .
