Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Incredible but true, Mietta is turning 50 today, Auguri! The Southern Italian beauty mainly known as a singer but also an actress and a writer has been keeping low profile since 2010 when she gave birth to her son but made a comeback with summer hit  Milano è dove mi sono persa , and is ready to relaunch her singing career full time and who knows, maybe we will see her again in Sanremo, too? I have been a fan since her Sanremo debut 1988 with Sogno . The year after she was back and won the Newcomers with Canzoni , and the year later scored massive evergreen with Vattene amore together with Amedeo Minghi (also OGAE Song contest winner). She has returned five times to Sanremo since, last time so far 2008 with Baciami adesso . She won Vota la Voce three years in a row 1989-1991 as the female artist of the year. Today Céline Dion turns 50. How times flies! This blogger has always preferred her French catalogue and picking up favorites from the last four decades isn't easy but here goes. The ones (of many) that havee had a secial meaning to me in some point of my life. In random order:

The queen of fu**ing everything, Carola turns 50 today! How time flies. This blogger has been a fan since the day one, has all her discography, has seen her several times live in Finland and in Sweden and no matter what she will always be one of my favorite singers. She has provided so much soundtrack for my life, ever since Främling back in 1983, a vinyl LP that was played on repeat and and is all scratches these days (and yes, I do have the CD, and the remastered Främling30 CD as well) and I still know all the songs by heart. Many happy returns and hey, when a new pop album?!

YLE confirmed right after Vienna 2015 final again that Finland will be present in the Eurovision song contest 2016 in Sweden, and also that it will be a jubilee year: Finland will take part for the 50th time!  Finland joined Eurovision back in 1961 and has stayed away only in 1970 willingly. We had to skip the 1995, 1997, 1999, 2001 and 2003 editions due to the rather insane regulations to be able to participate before the semifinal was finally introduced in 2004. Since then one victory in 2006, nine last places in the final, one more in the semifinal but also two third places in the semifinal and even three nul points Hard rock, punk, folk, reggae... who knows what we will send this time! Hopefully forget all the stupid ideas of being too alternative and progressive by sending something because of a cause instead of a good song.
