MOTOWN: COMMODORES - NIGHTSHIFT

After Lionel Ritchie left Commodores in 1982 the group's members kept changing, and even if the band is still active, Grammy winning Nightshift in 1985 is their last major hit (US #3, UK #3). The song was written and dedicated to Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson who died the year before. What's going on by Gaye is mentioned in the song, as are Wilson's (Love keeps me lifting) Higher and higher as well as Baby work out.In 2010 they released a new version dedicated to Michael Jackson and his 1,2,3 and I'll be there as well as Rock with you are mentioned, along with many late singers.   Winston Groovy has recorded the song and dedicated to Bob Marley. Fantasia sampled the song into her Lose to win

NINA ZILLI GOING REGGAE IN JAMAICA!

Nina Zilli is going back to her roots of reggae and ska in her new musical project. She's in Kingston, Jamaica at the moment recording with Alborosie, an Italian roots reggae artist who calls Jamaica home these days. The song they are recording together for his new album has a nice vintage vibe in it and Nina declares happy to be back to reggae "the love of her life"! Here's a video interview with them both about the project. And it also looks like we don't have to wait long for Nina's own new album either, apparently she is already working on it as well. That woman just can't sit down and do nothing, it seems :-) Alborosie (or Alberto D'Ascola from Sicily). He gained success with his band Reggae National Tickets in the early 1990's before moving to Jamaica in 2000. He has collaborated with names like Wyclef, Sisco, Angie Stone, Manu Chao. He is the first white artist to be distributed by Bob Marley's label Tuff Gong. Here's Kings...
