FINLAND: NEW #FINPOP BY ELLINOORA, RONJA MARIELA, EINI AND CATCAT

This week's dose of #FinPop has Ellinoora's latest hit (a cover of 90's ballad) with Eurovision veterans CatCat showing how time stood still and they sound exactly like back then, and it sounds very cool again! National finalist disco diva Eini is back, too, and then there's a new talent Ronja Mariela to complete this rather retro sounding all female set. Enjoy! (I just realized the song titles make up a soty: Everybody wants, Hidden from looks, After dark, A beautiful life.) Ellinoora - Kaikki tahtoo Ronja Mariela - Katseilta piilossa Eini - Pimeän jälkeen CatCat - Kaunis elämä

FINLAND: NEW FINPOP BY IRINA, YOKI, CATCAT AND ROSI

FINLAND: FINNS VOTED BYE BYE BABY THE BEST ENTRY OF THE 1990s

Yle organized among its other consolation Eurovision 2020 programming also a voting to find out the most loved Finnish entries of each decade ( here ). And there was no dount Kätkä sisters took home the victory. Bye bye baby has become an evergreen, a classic and a song everyone knows still. Despite the very disappointing 22nd place (Finland was in top-5 in the betting odds on the eve of the final) Finns didn't put the girls down but treated them as heroes and in the summer 1994 Bye bye baby was playing everywhere. The way it should be! Otherwise the 1990s were the sad sad decade for Finnish Eurovision, being made to stay home by the rules in 1995, 1997 and 1999.  1994 Cat Cat - Bye bye baby  55,3% 1991 Kaija Kärkinen - Hullu yö  17,5% 1993 Katri Helena - Tule luo  12,8% 1998 Edea - Aava  6,1% 1992 Pave Maijanen - Yamma yamma   3,8% 1994 Jasmine - Niin kaunis on taivas  2,4% 1990 Beat - Fri? 2,2%

FINLAND: VIRPI KÄTKÄ NARROWLY MISSED THE SURVIVOR FINAL

Virpi Kätkä of CatCat fame came 4th in the Finnish Survivor against all odds, and was even the longest surviving female competitor. She managed to get this far by being friendly and helpful to everyone and staying out of any major fights and double-talk. Or so we thought....  she confessed afterwards it was just the game she played! She was voted out in unison by the remaining guys in a rather ugly way. after Kim won the last challenge and got safety when the other had planned to vote him out. No one wanted to be in the final against Virpi anyways so she would have been next one out perhaps but Kim's victory messed it all up.  Kim is actually Kim Herold, of Humane Euroviisut 2007 (7th) fame. Let's see if he misses the final two as well and is on the next Plane Away.   Virpi took her elimination "the same way I did with Eurovision, five minutes of depression, get over it and that's it!" she told.  And the bikini in top photo she found in Thailand and as ...

FINLAND: KRISTA AND LORDI IN THE EUROVISION EPISODE OF TÄHDET, TÄHDET

Finnish variety show Tähdet, tähdet,  hosted by Eurovision 2007 host Mikko Leppilampi, where artists compete every week performing a different genre this season also Eurovision got its night. In tonight's episode the remaining artists sung their hearts out with Eurovision songs, choreographies, glitter and wind machines. Sadly only five artists are left in the show, so we only got to enjoy only five songs. Eurovision wannabes Mikael Saari and Tomi Metsäketo have already been voted out in the previous weeks.... (Next week will be country, last week was Finnish singer-songwriters for example) Krista Siegfrids was the expert jury member and also opened the show with an Eurovision medley with the respective choreographies doing an amazing job with My number one, Wild dances, Dancing Lasha tumbai, Marry me and Pump pump. Lordi was the guest star of the show proving once again despite all, they like to pop into the Bubble time to time again. They did Hard rock hallelujah ,...

FINLAND: WANT TO HAVE A TASTE OF CATCAT IN A BOTTLE?

We all know the girls of CatCat are bubbly and sweet but now they are that literally: they have launched their very own dry apple cider with strawberry flavour! Perfect for those endless white summer nights when sun never sets and music never stops and you just don't want to say bye bye baby, baby goodbye ..... If in Helsinki, get yours from a lovely special shop Pien in the heart of Helsinki by Tuomas and Erkki in Ateneuminkuja between Stockmann and the railway station.

FINLAND: YLE BROADCASTS EUROVIISUT 1993 AND 1994

It's already a tradition YLE dusts off some old Euroviisut broadcasts for the May Day and today is no exception. On Yle Teema channel at noon we have again Eurovision Brunch with the Finnish selections of 1993 and 1994. HAPPY WAPPU EVERYONE! The 1993 was a bit special one as that year YLE invited four super ladies for the competition: Katri Helena, Paula Koivuniemi, Marjorie and Arja Koriseva . Each had two songs selected from the submitted ones and the whole show was very low key in YLE's studios. Katri Helena's Tule luo was a clear winner. In 1994 it was back to normal, big show in Tampere talo. But it was a flop, they didn't manage to fill the concert hall even half way, maybe due to the very unknown line up, but in television it was a success when almost 1,2 million watched CatCat march to the victory with Bye bye baby . There was the telvoting for the first time and the votes were given out by regions plus the ones from the audience in the hall. CatCa...

FINLAND: CAT CAT CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

Cat Cat is back with a new single and a new album is on its way to celebrate their 25th year in the business. The sisters have been doing gigs all these years along with raising families and other jobs. Virpi has been through a highly public and nasty divorce from singer Tauski. She tells she sold everything but her piano and artistic wardrobe to cover the costs. But the girls don't have the legendry Dublin Eurovision 1994 dresses - YLE refuses to sell them to them. When needed they rent them and "do a watermelon diet for days" to fit back in.   They also tell they have been asked for gigs abroad as well over the years - Spain, Sweden and Germany - for various Eurovision events but have refused so far as they feel Finland is enough. With the anniversary celebrations this might change though so you might see them somewhere next year if asked. They also tell they are more secure now than when younger and these days it's guys at gigs who strip off their shirts..... ...

CATCAT ARE BACK AS PRETTY FLOWERS

Kukat kauniit or Pretty flowers is the name of a new CatCat album to be releaed later this spring. It's a move away from their uptempo songs, like their unforgettable Bye bye baby in Eurovision 1994. The sisters have continued their career all these years and this is their fifth studio album. They have also released a couple of official compilations and one Christmas album. Listen to their new single off the album here: Kukat kauniit Did you know Katja was one of the originally chosen members of Six4One ?

20 years of CatCat

Oh yes, it's already 20 years since the Kätkä sisters Virpi ja Katja or CatCat started their career as a sort of page three girls and became the hottest thing on earth in Finland in spring 1994 with Eurovision and  Bye bye baby . With ups and downs, breaks and comebacks it's been twenty years and they are here again, with a new compilation album that you can sample here and order here for the price of ... 5 euros! How could you not order it? As there is also another Eurovision track included.....

CatCat vs. Hera Björk

How many Finnish skinny girls do you need to fill Hera Björk's shoes? Two. The Kätkä sisters aka CatCat have visited studios again after a long break and here's the Finnish version of Hera's Eurovision entry Je ne sais quoi , Vapaus

Tauski aiming for Eurovision 2012

After Martina Tauski Peltonen has declared his intention to take part in next year's UMK. A bit of a shame as both would have featured nicely in the good old Euroviisut, but propably will have no chance whatsoever in UMK. This would be Tauski's fifth attempt to represant Finland. He has a long career behind him with ten album since 1989 but his private life has taken more notice for far too many years already than his music. He recently divorced Virpi CatCat Kätkä and married Henna Tuominen and all this messy affair has been spread all over the scandal tabloits this summer. His biggest hits include Sinä vain , Haavemaa and Niin minä sinulle kuulun . His latest album Reloaded featured covers like Mitä jos? and his latest single is an athem for silicon boobs Täydellinen .

Cruising Eurovision style!

Join CatCat, Euroband and hundreds of Eurovision fans from all over Europe for the very first Eurovision cruise on m/s Baltic Princess on September 4-5. The cruiser leaves Helsinki on September 4 at 6.30pm and returns the day after at 4.30pm. The boat is filled with fans, Eurovision karaoke, Eurovision drag show, CatCat show, Euroband show, Eurovision DJ's.... what else do you need? And did I mention CatCat? Hurry up to book, the offer end July 31 here .

OGAESC 2010 Finland - the songs

Italy has already chosen its song for the OGAE Song contest 2010 ( Nina Zilli) and Finland is about to do the same. A lot of familiar names from come back Marion to Johanna Kurkela, from Laura Voutilainen to Jenni Vartiainen and CatCat's Virpi, Kuunkuiskaajat and Chisu.. Listen to all the songs here .

Virpi is Reloaded!

Virpi Kätkä of CatCat fame has released her first solo album and it's a double actually. Reloaded follows the idea of her husbands Tauski's previous album with same name that just sold gold: new dance/trash versions of old classics. Virpi does Summer is crazy by Alexia, Sommertider by Gyllene Tider, Crying at discotheque by Alcazar amongst others and of course her own Bye bye baby with other two CatCat hits Piirtelet mun sydämeen and Yksin sateeseen plus some new songs like Marraskuu, Jäätynyt enkeli and Kylmä. Virpi also looks stunning at 40 and has got pretty gooc critic from reviewers. Here is her MySpace and here is the new single Marraskuu .
