Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

So it started. You can follow Eurovision Reddit here that is the only source of real information of the rehearsals so far.  As I have nothing to say as I've seen nothing I spare my comments until I do. Today was The Day. The rehearsals started on stage in Liverpool arena for the Eurovision song contest 2023. As Ebu once again is using TikTok for the short tiny rehearsal clips I'm not going to care much of them. But here is a collection of photos and impressions and observations by your truly of the closed doors happenings. Mind you, I'm all in favor for this closed door policy: the delegations must have a little bit privacy and peace and quiet to polish their acts before they are given to the sharks aka fandom eager to criticize every tiny detail. And also I kinda like the idea we are given as little as possible to watch before the shows so there will be surprises and wow effect - if you have seen it all beforehand where's the fun? The first rehearsal is 30 minutes for each meaning 3-4 run through. After that the delegation gathers to a viewing room and changes are discussed and made for the next rehearsal with the local team.   After two long years the day is finally here! The feeling is a bit surreal and unreal. But here we are and it's a good feeling. As I am not present I just post the photos and videos (all lovingly taken from eurovision.tv ) and comment what I can at this point which is obviously next to nothing for the pure joy of it.  Lithuania's The Roop seems to stick pretty much to the performance of their national final with the same yellow outfits and choreography with the similar backdrop, too. All adapted to Ahoy Rotterdam's bigger stage of course. Besides the three band members the two dancers they had before as well. Slovenia's Ana Soklic is on stage alone with her pre-recorded big gospel choir. The familiar white dress is there as is the big voice. The backdrop seems to be quite effective and beautiful. Russia's Manizha delivers the night's first pyros and wardrobe gimmick and seems to have gained many, many new fans with them. She's got her four backing singers ...

Belgium has been sorting out singers until now but now we are getting into serious business. Four entries tonight will be voted by a jury and televotes and only two will make the final line up. You can watch it online here from 20.30 CET. Tonight also the mysterious Day One with fitting song title - is it Kate Ryan or not? Day One - Whoever you are Eva Jacobs - Nothing is impossible Udo - Hero (In Flanders fields) Petra - Killer touch The jury had Eva first, Day One second, Udo and Petra tied third but televote lifted Udo with Eva to the final, which I totally agree. Eva and Udo are maybe oldfashioned and still need work with their staging (Udo, drop the dancers) while Day One believed a bit too musch to their masks and came across only wierd and unlikable. Petra was a cliche show burlesque number that was entertaining and fun to watch but who I want to hear the song ever again? No. A bit like I wanna, ...

Belgium has been playing around with the old Eurovision songs in their casting shows and call back aka second chance round. A masked group Day One has caused some stir as they haven ' t revealed their real identity and among others Kate Ryan has been said to be the singer.... sooner or later the masks must come down and we will see..... Now we have finally the semifinalists, 12 of them. Three semifinals will follow now, each with four acts two of them making the final where there will be then six acts if my math's right. There will be televote-international jury deciding on the winner then in the final.
