Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

As in previous years UMK 2024 is also a hit machine. The past three years the most streamed song in Finland has been an UMK entry, last year even Top-2 (and they are still in the Top-40 after one year!) It's funny to think just a few years ago the songs didn't chart at all, sometimes not even the winner and even longer ago some songs were not even recorded and/or released.  Here's how the songs have made in the Official singles Top-50 charts. As they were release one by one on different days and over two weeks chart period the positions enter gradually. Cyan Kicks is no stranger to UMK followers as this is their second participation, a rare event in recent UMK history where returnees are very rare. In 2022 they lost it to The Rasmus who went with Jezebel to Turin Eurovision and placed 7th in the semi-final and 21st in the grand final.   They beat however the biggest hit of the year, Ram pam pam by BESS. Their 2022 entry Hurricane spent 15 weeks in the singles chart peaking at n.o 24. Cyan Kicks was founded in 2016 and is considered an alternative rock band with a touch of pop and electric music. The band is fronted by lead singer Susanna Alexandra (Saarinen), guitarist Niila Perkkiö, bassist Leevi Erkkilä and drummer Pietari Reijonen. Susanna has a past in Idols 2008 and also performed in a duo. She and Niila met each other in 2011 and the year after already worked as a duo named Fusel.They still write most of Cyan Kicks songs together. This year's UMK has been a success for most of its artists. BESS scored the biggest hit this year so far with Ram pam pam and her follow up Rakastan ei rakasta is making it big as we speak. Besides that she's featured in Antti Tuisku's hit Grindr mayhem . Isaac Sene released already the follow up Jukka and is now featured in Etta's Rakastellaan. Cyan Kicks and Younghearted have released their follow up singles, too. As has The Rasmus . Meanwhile last year's success Ilta is here again with her latest continuing her success. UMK 2022 has been a success already. The international praise when the songs were released, approval by the fandom and the chart action in Finland proves it. Four out of seven songs has made the official singles chart besides making waves in streaming platforms, and each song has made the Radio play Top-100 as well. If we were to believe charts BESS would be clear winner, being at #1 for the fourth week at the moment, and also the highest entry on radio charts but is it destined to be a domestic hit only? We'll see. On top of that the UMK final in Logomo, Turku, sold out in record time. It is also a record it sold out completely unlike the previous attempts to have a national final arena style. I personally have three favorites, a couple of other that would be fine. too, so it's very hard to say how this will end and what would be the best choice, I let the live performance guide me. Alternative rock band Cyan Kicks was founded in Helsinki 2016. They mix in their music hard rock with melodic pop and electronic sounds. The members are Susanna Alexandra (vocals), Niila Perkkiö (guitars), Leevi Erkkilä (bass) and Pietari Reijonen (drums). They have written their entry Hurricane with Swedish-Danish Eliza Ryd, singer in Amarathe and it's been produced and mixed with American Chris Walla and Zakk Cervini. Their debut single Feathers was released in 2017 but it was the second single Gasoline that brought them to radio waves and notoriety. Critics have labeled them as a very possible export product. Their debut album I don't love you (2019) was nominated for Emma award as the best rock album of the year. Here they are, and for once the names were not leaked ahead of time (let's see how it goes for the songs though....) and as the fandom had been speculating and investigating the clues the past week none of the names was a surprise, on the contrary. All were out and loud and some even a certain thing. But let's have a look in order of my excitement from most to none. I will do a better bio and review one by one as the songs are being released at midnight Finnish time.  Out of names that were also heavily circulating Tomi Saario is one of the writers for Bess, Haloo Helsinki for Tommi Läntinen. Ad Elize Ryd of Amarathe as a co-writer for Cyan Kicks, Desmond Child for The Rasmus, Vilma Alina for Younghearted so the name dropping wasn't in vain. Nisa Soraya, who came from Singapore via UK to Finland in the early 1980's and made a career here, sort of, and even participated in Euroviisut and scored a few minor hits (funnily her best known songs are known thanks to Kikka who covered them later and made them evergreens). Since then she has been around busy doing nothing apparently and some call her the Queen of camp disco . Now she has sent a song to UMK 2016 it seems. Beware! Below is a s list of other names that have apparently sent in a song when gathering hints or news from various social media platforms and internet. Maybe someone of them will make the cut.
