Cyan Kicks is no stranger to UMK followers as this is their second participation, a rare event in recent UMK history where returnees are very rare. In 2022 they lost it to The Rasmus who went with Jezebel to Turin Eurovision and placed 7th in the semi-final and 21st in the grand final. They beat however the biggest hit of the year, Ram pam pam by BESS. Their 2022 entry Hurricane spent 15 weeks in the singles chart peaking at n.o 24.
Cyan Kicks was founded in 2016 and is considered an alternative rock band with a touch of pop and electric music. The band is fronted by lead singer Susanna Alexandra (Saarinen), guitarist Niila Perkkiö, bassist Leevi Erkkilä and drummer Pietari Reijonen. Susanna has a past in Idols 2008 and also performed in a duo. She and Niila met each other in 2011 and the year after already worked as a duo named Fusel. They still write most of Cyan Kicks songs together. The other two joined in 2016 and they released their first singles Feathers and Gasoline, that became a minor radio hit. The debut album I don't love you in late summer 2019, and received an Emma Award nomination (aka Finnish Grammy) for the Best Rock album.
In 2020 they were meant tour Europe but Covid pandemic cancelled the tour and they concentrated on writing new music and released EP Not your kind in 2021. In summer they were performing before Apocalyptica in Tampere, and met Elize Ryd, Amaranth's singer. They hit it off and a week later in one day they wrote Hurricane.
Elize Ryd has co-written also Dancing with demons along with Susanna, Niila and Dan Lancaster and Sara Ryan. Niila and Dan are the producers.
Out of my mind, dancing with my demons
Like the Queens in the dead of night
Out of my mind as one with all the creatures
I will dance til the day I die
I remember liking Hurricane, not so keen on this one. The chorus is very catchy indeed but I'm not a big fan of the video actually. This is better when you only hear it. For me at least. I have no idea how they will bring this on stage but I hope it's something different from the visuals of the videos, all we need (not) is the demon monster on stage. In fact they did that with Hurricane as well, very different on stage (that I liked a lot btw) Also, the song comes to an end quite suddenly without a proper explosion. It has been a said a zillion times already we don't have Käärijä like phenomenon this year so the staging and live performance is very crucial. Should this win, I wouldn't be too sad but I may prefer something else...
