ITALY: SANREMO 2024 ACTS - WHO WILL GO TO EUROVISION?

Here are the Eurovision veterans:

MAHMOOD - TUTA GOLD

His third time among Big after winning in 2019 (Soldi) and Brividi (with Blanco) in 2022 placing 2nd and 6th at Eurovision. Before that he did Newcomers twice: 2016 he placed 4th behind liked of Francesco Gabbani and Ermal Meta, and in 2018 he won the ticket to 2019 festival. Before the start he's 8th in the odds.

EMMA - APNEA

Emma came 2nd in Sanremo 2011 with Modà and Arriverà, and won the year after with Non è l'inferno. In 2022 she was 6th with Ogni volta è cosi. In 2014 she was chosen internally by Rai for Eurovision scoring Italy's worst placing ever with La mia citttà, 21st. Emma is 9th in odds.

IL VOLO - CAPOLAVORO

Il Volo returns for their third Sanremo after winning with Grande amore in 2015 and placing 3rd in Eurovision (after winning the televote). in 2019 they came 3rd with Musica che resta. Il Volo is 11th in odds.

DIODATO - TI MUOVI

Unfortunate Duiodato won Sanremo 2020 with Fai rumore, and thanks to pandemic never got to Eurovision - until Turin 2022 as a guests act. His debut was in 2014 when he placed 2nd in the newcomers. 2018 he was back, among Big with Roy Paci . Adesso placed 8th. Diodato is 10th in odds.

RICCHI E POVERI - MA NON TUTTA LA VITA

1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1976, 1981, 1985, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992... 2024. They're back! Even if only two are left from the original quartet. One win in 1985, two 2nd places in 1970, 1971. Global hit in 1981. Not so succesful Eurovision gig in 1978 with Questo amore, 12th. In odds they are 25th.

ANNALISA - SINCERAMENTE

N.o 1 in odds. She's had the most amazing year or so recently scoring hit after hit. This is her 6th Sanremo (2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021) where she has always placed well enough (9th, 4th, 11th, 3rd, 7th) but now she's a hot tip to win it finally.

ANGELINA MANGO - LA NOIA

Debutant. Talent show Amici runner up last year has had a very successful year and Sanremo could be her crowning moment. Her father Mango was a fantastic singer and multiple Sanremo participant who sadly died on stage during his concert in 2014. Her mother Laura Valente. also a singer, was Matia Bazar's singer for awhile and participated with them in Sanremo as well. Will Angelina outdo her parents? During covers night she will sing her father's fantastic hit Le rondini. Second in odds.

GEOLIER - I P' ME, TU P' TE

Another debutant. From Napoli and raps in Napoletan. Two albums todate, both have sold multiple platinum. His singles/featuring/collaboration singles have earned him since 2018 65 gold/platinum/multiple platinum certifications. He's a streaming king. Third in odds.

ALESSANDRA AMOROSO - FINO A QUI

Yet another debutant. Finally in Sanremo. 4th in odds after first topping it. Another Amici talent show winner, has sold over 3 million albnus since. Seven albums to date, 5 of them n.1 1, one more n.o 2. and one live album also n.o 1. Three n.0 1 singles, 11 Top-10 singles.

Here are the veterans:

LOREDANA BERTE - PAZZA

Loredana is at her 12th Sanremo (1986, 1988, 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 2002, 2021, 2019 and 2008 she was disqualified. Usually she has placed at the bottom half, caused a scandal or two, created chaos and disapprove but now at 73 she's more popular than ever. Her last two participation have finished at 4th place and now she's 5th in the odds. Who knows, maybe she's in for a surprise! How iconic it would be she went to Malmö, just like her sister Mia Martini did and everyone was just interested on the fact Loredana was married to Swedish tennis legend Björn Borg at the time...

IRAMA - TU NO

Irama is back for the 5th time. 12th in odds. In 2016 he was beaten among newcomers by certain Gabbani,. Meta and Mahmood but then entered among Big in 2019, 2021, 2022. (7th, 5th, 9th). In 2021 he couldn't perform live due to Covid-19 but was allowed to remain in competition thanks to recorded rehearsal video.

FIORELLA MANNOIA - MARIPOSA

Grand old lady, if we can say so. on her sixth Sanremo (1981, 1984, 1987, 1988, 2017). 14th in odds. She has scored evergreem hits that usually have under performed in Sanremo: 11th, 14th, 8th, 10th, Until 2017 when Francesco Gabbani beat her to 2nd place. 19 studio albums to date.

RENGANEK - PAZZO DI TE

Francesco Renga's 8th, Nek's 5th Sanremo. Renga won in 2005, Nek came second in 2015. They're 19th in odds and have had this joint project since 2022, with one album to date.

MR.RAIN - DUE ALTALENE

He debuted last year finishing 3rd. 15th in odds.Four albums to date, two of them have sold platinum or gold.18 gold/platinum certifications for his singles, last year's Sanremo Supereroi being clearly the biggest hit of his career.

THE KOLORS - UN RAGAZZO UNA RAGAZZA

Another Amici winner. Debuted in Sanremo 2018 and switched into Italian. 3 albums so far but the latest one is from 2017. Last year they scored their biggest hit ever with n.o 1 single Italodisco. 7th in odds.

SANGIOVANNI - FINISCIMI

Sangiovanni debuted im Sanremo 2022 finishing 5th. 20th in odds this time.

NEGRAMARO - RICOMCIAMO TUTTO

Debutants among big after Newcomers in 2005. Meanwhile they have become very successful and leader Giuliano Sangiorgi has written hits for others, too. 6th in odds. 8 stuido albums, 4 of them n.o 1, add n.o 2 and n.o 3. All but debut sold gold/platinum/multi platinum diamand!

DARGEN D'AMICO - ONDA ALTA

Debuted in 2022. Placed 9th but scored one of the biggest hits. 11 albums, countless collaborations. 13th in odds.

CLARA - DIAMANZI GREZZI

From Sanremo Giovani. 22nd in odds. Singer, actress model. Shot to fame from popular tv-series Mare fuori. Writes a song for the series, it becomes a platinum selling hit. Does a few featuring, releases singles and wins then Sanremo Giovani . Last woman to do so was Arisa in 2009!

SANTI FRANCESI - L'AMORE IN BOCCA

From Sanremo Giovani. 18th in odds. Fresh winners of X Factor Italia. Tried their luck already in Amici 2017 without success. One album, one EP and a string of singles so far. And apparently quite a good solid fanbase. Used to be The Jab before name change.

ALFA - VAI!

27th in odds. He has already Eurovision connection: He dueted with Rosa Linn in the Italian version of Snap! Two albums, two dozens of collabotarions, over 20 singles, duets with Annalisa and Rosa Chemical and a big hit last year with Bellimissima brings him here directly among Big. I think he was to take part in Sanremo giovani a year or two ago but was ill or something......

BNKR44 - GOVERNO PUNK

From Sanremo Giovani.. 29th in odds.Last year they were performing with Sethu during the Covers night and now they are here. 3 albums, 5 singles so far. A lot of collaborations with other artists like Ghali, Tedua, Rkomi, Madame, Tananai and .... La Sad!

LA SAD - AUTODISTRUTTIVO

25th in odds. One album, string of singles. First time in tv last year.

Debutants:

GHALI - CASA MIA

16th in odds. Tunisian origins. 4 albums to date, the first two being multiplatinum successes. Between 2016 and 2019 he had a string of 8 Top-10 singles selling 22 times gold/platinum/multiplatinum. 5 n.o 1 singles, 11 top-10's. A lot of collaborations with likes of Charlie Charles, Sfera Ebbasta, Madame, Marracash and Fabri Fibra or simply the Italian rap royalty.

GAZZELLE - TUTTO QUI

21st in odds. She was in Sanremo last year as a guest artist for Rosa Chemical. She released her debut album last year and has collaborated with names like Gue Pequeno, Rosa Chemical, Annalisa, Salmo, Achille Lauro. Irama and ... Fred De Palma

FRED DE PALMA - IL CIELO NON CI VUOLE

30th in odds.6 albums since 2012, last two seelling multi platinum. Has huge summer hits with Ana Mena, Baby K and Anitta. 34 gold/platinum/multi platinum certifications for his singles in Italy and Spain.

BIGMAMA - LA RABBIA NON TI BASTA

23rd in odds. mShe starts rapping at 13. Starts for real just pre-Covid that stops everything. She also fights and beats cancer. Release her debut album in 2022 and makes herself known. Does Sanremo covers night last year with Elodie.

MANINNI - SPETTACOLARE

24th in odds. Went to U2 concert at the age of 9 and the rest is history. in 2016 he took part in Amici without much success but releaed a couple of singles after. In 2022 he tried Sanremo Giovani but didn't win a ticket to Teatro Ariston for 2023. But he's here now. As a Big. And has released already 12 singles.

IL TRE - FRAGILI

28th in odds. 2 alnums, 3 mixtapes, 15 singles since 2018. Various collaborations. >Success started from Youtube. 4 platinum discs so far. Alnum n.o 1.

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local. The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist, as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further? No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Kuunkuiskaajat in Russia!

Kuunkuiskaajat are performing tomorrow in Russia in Sosnogorsk Rock Festival 2010. Apparently the festival has something to do with Finno-Ugric culture and Komi.... I have to investigate that a bit more. Anyways, way to go girls! Meanwhile here they are a couple of weeks ago in Helsinki's Korjaamo .

EUROVISION 2024: THE TURQUOISE CARPET FLOP - WHAT'S GOING ON IN MALMÖ?

Oh what a let down. Something is going on in Malmö 2024 Eurovision and I'm not sure we can blame it all on Israel. Not only have the rehearsals been more blinded than ever (then again, I'm all for closed doors rehearsals mind you), a big percentage of volunteers declining to come to work after all, the Eurovision street pretty much cancelled due to artists pulling out and so far the images from Eurovision Village have been sadly amusing in their emptiness and nothingness! I tried to watch the stream later. I ended up jumping ahead having a peak here and there and indeed it was useless nonsense. Where was fun? Glamour? Show? It was not Eurovision, it was like interviewing some reality tv wannabes before they kick off for some random reality adventure. Boring. And now the much awaited Turquoise carpet. CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award.
