ITALY: SANREMO 2024, LA PRIMA SERATA - THE FIRST NIGHT'S RUNNING ORDER - ALL 30 ACTS

Tonight's the first night of the 74th Sanremo and unlike the previous years all 30 acts will perform tonight. Prepaire yourself for a long long night! How the voting is tonight and the coming night you can read in detail here

I will follow tonight and comment and judge the songs live so do come back and join in the fun. Before the live show from Tatro Ariston di Sanremo at 20.40 CET we have a Primafestival at 20.30 CET. It all should end at 1.30 CET (believe it if you dare!) and it's followed by Via Raidue! ... Viva Sanremo until 2.25 CET. That's six hours for tonight, lol.

Tonight's running order has been revealed and it is below. Apparently the last ones tonight will be the first ones tomorrow and day after tomorrow in reverse order. Maybe. (In brackets the odds this afternoon. You may notice all the favorites (1-10) are more or less grouped together in the first half of the show, with some midtable entries (11-20) in between and the underdogs have to perform late late night (21-30))

20.45 We start punctual! After military salute outside Teatro Ariston we enter with Marco Mengoni who welcomes us to the 74th festival and gets thunderous applause before enters Amadeus.

Clara - Diamanti grezzi (20)
Very good start for the evening. I like her and I like this song. Looks fab, too. 8
Sangiovanni - Finiscimi (19)
Not my cup of tea not cappuccino. Not fan of his voice nor the song. just indifferent. Yawn. 4
Fiorella Mannoia - Mariposa (13)
A touch of Latin, very catchy ay ay ay chorus. I'm pleasantly surprised! Huge applause. I suspect she'll do a lot better than the odds predict beforehand.  8
La Sad - Autodistruttivo (24)
Well, what to say? Pop punk. Probably they are supposed to be bad but they are quite adorable. And indeed they came with an important message, that of anti-suicide. Music saves lifes.

*Marco Mengoni returns to belt out Due vite and the whole Ariston sings along. Majestic. What a song!
Irama . Tu no (12)
Rather classic Sanremo ballad. Beautiful ballad and strings but... a touch of gospel in choirs. Nothing to get excited about. 6
Ghali - Casa mia (17)
Quite nice Alien pop, but further listening will tell where this goes. Now I was jamming along 8
Negramaro - Ricomnciamo tutto (6)
Maybe he isn't at his best vocals tonight. Rather typical Sanremo rock ballad. Are the odds so high only because they are finally taking part?  6
Annalisa - Sinceramente (1)
Ok, her string of hits continues (1.300 million streams the past years) and yes, Euroboys are screaming this for Eurovision..... I'm still at 8 for now.

Enter Marco Mengoni and becomes a true comedian! Is there anything he can't do? And yes, finally.... Mengoni presents:

Mahmood - Tuta gold (8)
OK. I'm a fan, and this is just like I like Mahmood. Or rather a nice mix of his best songs. And it looks like he's really having the time of his life this time! Not sure about the outfit though. 9
Diodato - Ti muovi (11)
Very good, the Diodato I like and excellent performance with a touch of his Turin interval act. 9

Off to the outside stage in Piazza Colombo with Lazza, whose Cenere is the most sold of last year's entries, beating Mengoni who beat him in the Sanremo ranking.

A tribute to late Toto Cutugno, Sanremo and Eurovision winner next.

Loredana Bertè - Pazza (5)
She's a bit crazy as the title suggests and this song is so her that you can't not like it. And people love her in Ariston. 8
Geolier - I p' me, tu p' te (3)
Not really for me, I love it's in Napoletan but I expected a bit more originality from this streaming King. 4
Alessandra Amoroso - Fino a qui (4)
This feels like her outtake on Mengoni's L'essenziale. On the toehr hand a very typical Sanremo ballad. I've never been a fan of hers but this quite pleasant. 8
The Kolors - Un ragazzo, una ragazza (7)
Ok this is fun. Great arrangement vintage. Me likes, even if this isn't Italodisco  9
Angelina Mango - La noia (2)
Oh she's Italian ABREU! She's really going for it. A sure hit and something original and different. No wonder she's #2 in odds, and she really has the momemtum working for her. Dardust already has Luxemburg, will he have also Italy for Malmö? 9

Time for Marco Mengoni half time show. And yes, he's amazing. How come most every his song on this medley is better than anything else we've heard tonight?
Il Volo - Capolavoro (9)
Well, I do like melodies, and voices, and piano. Classic ballad. Can't help it. 8
Bigmama - La rabbia non ti basta (23)
A bit Madame but.... Well.... Not so bad in the end. Her enthusiasm and joy was a lot. 6
Ricchi e Poveri - Ma non tutta la vita (26)
Well, I love Ricchi e Poveri, my reason to learn Italian back in the days. This is fun and I'm so happy they are back after all this time. What can I give? 8 for now. And yes, people loved them!
Emma - Apnea (10)
Emma a little uptempo like many others. Not still quite convinced. She's last of the ones the odds consider. The rest tonight will be a run through 7
Francesco Renga & Nek - Pazzo di te (18)
Boredom. That's all I can say 4
Mr. Rain - Due altalene (16)
I liked him last year, like most everyone as he finished 3rd. This now says nothing. 5
BNKR44 - Governo punk (29)
Not punk at all. Fun and colorful, and they even had a chaotic coreography. Likable. 6
Gazzelle - Tutto qui (15)
Elegant ballad, a bit British. This might be a grower 6
Dargen D'Amico - Onda alta (14)
Nah, not for me. His outfit was the best part. 4
Rose Villain - Click boom! (22)
Quite strange, catchy funny refrain, the rest so so. 6
Santi Francesi - L'amore in bocca (21)
This one I want to hear in studio version, now it was a bit too eager. 6
Fred De Palma - Il cielo non ci vuole (30)
How come this is last in odds. I think it was pretty nice pop song. Not reggaeton as his usual ones. 8
Maninni - Spettacolare (25)
Melodic and nice, no gimmicks. A proper song. 8
Alfa - Vai! (27)
Screams of a summer hit. Very un-italian somehow. 7
Il Tre - Fragili (28)
Another one to hear on studio version as this wasn't so great. And it's tonight's ugliest outfit. At least it's not black. Then again it's 1.51 at night. 5

And tonight's Top-5 is voted by media in press center:
1. Loredana Bertè
2. Angelina Mango
3. Annalisa
4. Diodato
5. Mahmood

It's 2.00. Buona notte!

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

Rumors, rumors, rumors....

While the national selections for Junior Eurovision are going on around Europe and Ani Lorak's been confirmed as host all sort of rumors about the real thing are beginning to be the order of the day. Austria returns - or then not. Andorra stays home - or then not. San Marino returns - well, most likely but not surely. Luxembourg should make a come back - or then maybe not. Liechtenstein is still in the running - or has it ever been for real? Has the local TV ever confirmed anything? Is it just wishful thinking by the fans? Poland on the other hand has confirmed they will be in Oslo. And Italy will be still out. And apparently there will be no ban or such for Azerbaijan nor Spain for the irregularities in and after the 2009 edition. EBU had to change the text in the rules to make it sure nothing like that what happened in Azerbaijan could happen again. Or if it will they have means and rules to back up a ban or sanction.... Katerina Avgoustakis has been rumored to be in Oslo...

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

JEDWARD GETS NAKED FOR THE FANS

Well, almost. The boys celebrated their 650.000th follower on Twitter by being photographed fresh from shower as promised. It's not the first time they drop their clothes as you see here . Meanwhile their second album is nearly here and the title track Young love is hitting the charts....

EUROVISION 2026 - SAN MARINO: SENHIT WINS SAN MARINO SONG CONTEST

San Marino. The tiny little thing that makes things big and never ever stops surprising us. This year after the usual very long selecting process that included several previous Eurovision entrants and wannabes from various countries, even with songs they competed in another country's selection, as the last twist of turns announced the qualified semi-finalists before they aired the shows..... Ok. Because why Not?  Read more about all the zillion entrants here After all the submissions, castings through Dreaming San Marino song contest 20 semi-finalists were selected, among them previous Eurovision entrants Magdalena from Poland, Marayya from Slovenia and Star Guy (Norway),  and from this years national final selections Elysa (Estonia), Sheila (Albania) and Xannova Xan (Greece) and even Edward Maya also running in Romania at the same time, with other singers from Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Czechia, Netherlands and United States.  Ten out of those 20 semi-finalist qualified ...

Regina Lund - naked and censored

Regina Lund's new video Jag är osynlig was censored by Youtube only minutes after it had been uploaded. In the video she was playing a female Jesus who gets crusified in the end. "I was shocked!" she says. "There's nothing more naked in it as in every church! It's ok to have naked man hanging on the wall but my nakedness is too much on internet? ". Oh well, no comment. She's prepairing a new album Dare Regina Lund and we of course remember her from her Melodifestivalen 2007 adventure with Rainbow star .

UK: Naked Blue

The boys of Blue have posed nude again. This time for the Attitude magazine's annual Naked issue and they are also in the cover. Watch the video of the shooting here . Band member Duncan, who is bi-sexual, recently told The Daily Star : “We are getting our kit off for Attitude magazine like the McFly boys did. I’m up for showing everything off. I’m happy enough about the size of my manhood. ” Extra media attention won't hurt their changes in Germany to win it for the UK for the first time since 1997... They will and they can!

FRANCE: LINH - J'AVOUE

As I'm off to France for some well deserved holidays and will get back to this blog afterwards I will feature a song a day. From France as my travelling tradition goes. By my favorite French singers bien sur. Enjoy!

EUROVISION 2026 - PORTUGAL: BANDIDOS DO CANTE WINS FESTIVAL DA CANCAO

Portugal's 60th Festival da Canção came to an end tonight and the winner is Bandidos do Cante.  Portugal's national selection for Eurovision song contest 2026 has been quite critical to the participation with most artists and/or songwriters declaring they won't go to Vienna should they win. In the end there are apparently only two artists who have declared they will go to Vienna, and one uncertain if they win. Let's see who eventually will go to Eurovision in the end.... Apparently Bandidos do Cante is one of those who have said yes. Read more here .  Bandidos de Cante was formed almost by accident by childhood friends singing Alentejo folk songs at dinner parties and such. The quintet is composed of Miguel Costa, Duarte Farias, Francisco Raposo, Luís Aleixo and Francisco Pestana, all natives of the municipality of Beja, except for Francisco Pestana, who is from Monte Trigo. After tone of those dinner gatherings they were invited to record vocals to D.A.M.A.'s Casa ...
