Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Let's continue the series and kill some time having a look at the last decade and see who were the Top-10 best scoring countries in the Eurovision song contest in the past ten years. The ways to calculate are many and here I have used the simple average placement method (and it's not all so serious). Next up is Norway at n.o 7. Norway has been sending a steady string of successes after a rocky start of the decade that started with a NQ and then a last place in the final.. Those who didn't qualify were fan favorites no matter what, and this blogger thinks Agnete's NQ was very much undeserved. Like everywhere else also in Finland the Eurovision songs enter the charts. Not the physical top-20 but the Dowwnload charts where Conchita Wurst enters at #2 while Softengine re-enter at #3 (after being #17 after they won the Finnish selection). Further down we have The Common Linnets at #6, Sanna Nielsen at #7, Carl Espen at #20 and Aram Mp3 at #29. In Radio Play top-100 only Softengine has made it so far, at # 12, going up from #40.

Eurovision 2014 has been a success. The iTunes in various countries were taken over my the songs right after the final and today we got the new from the official UK charts; 13 songs from the show made the Top-100. The Common Linnets even enter the Top-10, is this a first for a non-winning, non-UK song? Anyways, even Finland's Softengine made it! Something better than that?  Maybe the over one million views of Youtube and over one million streams on Spotify?

Norway revamped its national selection MGP this year and managed to get a varied group of songs in it. One stood above the rest already from the release of a few seconds snippets, Silent storm by carpenter Carl Espen (32). The contrast with his looks and voice/song makes it very special and he sings it with heartfelt passion. The song is written by his cousin Josephine Winther.  Carl served six months military in Kosovo, does volunteer work for cancer research and works also as a doorman in a rock club. Not your typical EuroBoy is he? Do we have a male version of Marija Serifovic in the making here? Robert : Are we going back to Norway next year? There is definitely a big chance. Silent storm is a beautiful ballad that will capture alot of attention and votes. His personal story as the singer carpenter will certainly also help in the right direction. Norway also selected their entry tonight. There was a Golden Final with the top four and strangely the four I thought did make the final, even if for me there was only one worthy winner: Carl Espen. It's different, touching, authenthic and special the way Marija Serifovic was. I remember hearing Molitva for the first time among the Serbian semifinalists back then and thought " if this wins here, it'll win the whole thing" . I wasn't maybe that right with my predictions of the qualifiers in the Norwegian MGP but then what can you expect if done by listening once the snippets? :-) But I did pick up Silent storm and now it's evident the rest of you has done so, too. Some are talking of it as the future Eurovision winner, but let's wait and see of that. But Norway is all about short titles this year, with the exceptions of El Cuero's rather grammatically challenging and long title. In the end Norwegians got a pretty nice but inoffensive line up. I enjoyed most of the songs for various reasons, exception being Charlie. Oda & Wulff were very entertaining but for all the wrong reasons though. I suspect any of these songs will bother the left side of the scoreboard in Copenhagen if chosen, with the exception of Carl Espen.
