Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

So Hamlet wrote, and it seems to be true. Or at least there are bad losers in Herning! Not happy with the DR's and EBU's decision to bring the 2014 Eurovision song contest in the capital Copehagen - for the third time by the way after 1964 and 2001 - they have now invented a silent protest in the form of cakes! A baker (with a suitable name) Alix Bitsch has created this protest cake for all the people of Herning to enjoy and even the Mayor seems to be game. I'll have one of those!

Four cities, or should I say towns? remains in the race for the Eurovision 2014 in Denmark. Aalborg withdraw in the last minute but we have the offerings of Copenhagen, Horsens, Herning and Fredericia.  Copenhagen remains the front runner thanks to its Parken , the venue of the (most horrible ever) Eurovision 2001. However, the size of the arena would most likely to be reduced this time from its 38.000 capacity. Copenhagen would also have enough of hotel rooms and other stuff required for hosting.... UPDATE: Copenhagen has proposed apparently to other options as well: Bella Center that has good transport connections and has already hosted MTV Music awards and has capacity of 20.000. Ballerup Super arena has a capasity of over 9.000 so it could be used as well... Boxen in Herning is suitable size (15.000) but the city itself lacks most everything else, but Århus next door could help with that. But will it all be a bit too complicated then?  Fredericia 's Messe C ...

Aalborg that already entered and wihdraw in favor of Herning has now joined the race after all it seems. The chosen venue would be Gigantium, already the venue for the national final in 2012. Today also Fredericia, a town of some 50.000 souls enters with its fair centre The Messe C that can have up to 8.000 people has showed interest.

It could take a bit more than 14 kms to the next year's contest from Malmö 2013 after all. Copenhagen is one candidate but gets a strong competition from Herning. Aarhus that was to apply as well, has withdrawn in favor for Herning and together they stand up to Copenhagen's capacity in hotels and all that extra stuff needed besides the venue itself. The formal bidding process starts now but it's between these two options. In Copenhagen it's The Parken, already Eurovision 2001 venue, and in Herning Boxen, already a venue for the national final this year, and X Factor finals in 2011 and 2012.  Herning is a town of some 46.000 souls about 80 kms from Aarhus, and Aarhus is Denmark's second biggest town with some 1,25 million people in its urban area.
