Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  Norway had its national final for Eurovision song contest 2026. Jonas Lovvw on Melodi grand prix with Ya ya ya.  The final songs were selected among some 1.500 submissions shortlisted to 16; eight made the final directly, the other eight had to go through a radio competition in duels until one was left, that being Skrellex. Denmark had its MGP 2025 final tonight and Sissal won after online voting between February 24 and 28, and again during the live show. The top-3 was announced after 50/50 online/sms votes/international jury panel and a super final followed with the same voting system. Sissal lives in Copenhagen but is originally from Faroe Islands (just like Reiley in 2023) and has been on stage since she was 10. Norway had its traditional Melodi grand Prix that was a one night affair this year. If Tommy Cash took an easy win in Estonia minutes later Kyle Alessandro did the same in Norway with his Lighter. Kyle Alessandro Helgesen Villalobos or simply Kyle Alessanro (18) is a Spanish-Norwegian singer. His career started already back in 2017 when he at the age of ten took part in Norske Talenter talent show. That lead to  other performances and debut album and string of singles between 2017-2019. In 202 he returned to music and in 2023 he was a part of Umami Tsunami trio that took part in MGP with Geronimo that placed last. After five years of semi-final Norway is back to one night Melodi Grand prix when nine songs will battle out the ticket to Basel 2025 Eurovision on February 15. The show also returns to Oslo's Spektrum. Originally it was supposed to be ten songs but Lavrans Svedsen withdraw in the last minute. Also Angelina Jordan withdrew a week before due to Los Angeles wildfires as she lives there. It is however not revealed who from the backup list replaced her. Svedsen won't be repalced thus only nine entries. The line up sees two winning comebacks: Bobbysocks or Elisabeth Andreassen and Hanne Krogh return after 4o years of giving Norway it's first win in 1985 with La det swinge. Another returnee is back after 20 years is Wig Wam. Should Elisabeth win again it'd be her fifth and record breaking time in Eurovision song contest leaving San Marino's Valentina Monetta and Switzerland's Peter, Sue & Marc behind. Norway's Melodi Grand Prix 2023 came to and end Saturday night and the streaming queen and fan favorite indeed won with her Queen of kings. I may have been a bit harsh in my review but that's what reviews are for. I'm still not a big fan of the song but Alessandra's bubbly personality that came across so well during the voting and especially after winning won me over a bit. Then again, autotune was allowed in Norway and she still didn't sound so well live, so what about Liverpool? We'll see, or rather hear. Prepare yourself! And I'm not going to say anything about her winning repeat performance ..... I haven't seen such chaos for years. Nice touch though she sung some verses in Italian like a good Italian girl! Norway has had its three semi-finals, created two streaming magnets, lost a couple of fan favorites (mainly for poor live performances despite auto tune allowed) and here we are with the nine finalists.In the final there will be 50/50 international jury/televote, while the semi-finalists were chosen by 100% televote in the semi-finals. I kinda like this but it's not a big favorite of mine I doubt this will end up on any of my playlists. Should this win.... Well, I have no idea how this would do in Liverpool. Lower parts of the grand final perhaps? Eline Thorp - Not ment to be *** I really like the first 45 second, and the past chorus but not such a fan of the chorus itself. She looks a bit suffering in this live performance which troubles me a bit. Not bad though. Maybe a bit forgettable right after the song's over. Could be a song that plays in the closing credits of a movie......

Today was Norway's turn to reveal the entries for the 2023 MGP. NRK organises three semi-finals this year before the grand final. No more pre-qualified artists nor duels but the top-3 from each semi-final will qualify for the final apparently with 100% televote. In the final it's 50/50 with the televote and an international jury. Among the participants four previous winners Kate Guldbrandsen (1987), JOWST (2017), Stig Van Eijk (1999) and Ulrikke, who won the 2020 competition and was due to represent Norway in Rotterdam but the contest was cancelled . Add fan favorite Elsie Bay and previous contestant Alejandro Fuentes to the group with many names from various talent shows. Norway's Melodi Grand Prix 2022 went through four semi-finals where from only one act made it to the final. The we had two rounds of last chance before one more act was added to the line up. These five meet five internally chosen acts in the grand final before we finally find out the winner who gets the ticket to Turin 2022. Generally the standard has been very low, sadly low for Norway and the two favorites Subwoolfer and Elise Bay are very different. Noway has already proven during these semi-finals they often go for not the obvious so let's see what they come out with from this season.... Dance like a pink flamingo by Trollfest was the closest to the final before dropping out to Maria Mohn's Fly. Norway is one of those countries that decided not to send last year's winner Ulrikke to the Eurovision 2021 and go with  business as usual attitude and have their annual Melodi Grand Prix instead. Ulrikke, who had a very strong chance to do really well in Eurovision last year with her Attention decided not to take part despite invitation. Instead KEiiNO are back, the 2019 European wide televoting winners along with a very strong line up that beats neighboring Melodifestivalen line up by miles.  KEiiNo is of course the big fan favorite, but TiX is the one ruling streaming services and previous MGP fan favorites Raylee and Rein Alexander also have a lot of support.   Alexander Rybak, Eurovision song contest 2009 winner will return to the contest after winning the Norwegian national final with his That's how you write a song. He beat Rebecca in the super final. Her song was written by Eurovision 2015 entrant Kjetil Mørland while the other Eurovision veterans in competition Alexander Walmann and Stella Mwangi finished 3rd and 4th. Old timers ruled. Pictured is Norway's national flower purple heather Norway dropped the semifinals again and aimed all for a one big final. The international juries were brought back to judge the ten songs, handpicked from the recordbreaking 1.035 submissions and directly invited composers. The result was a very non-Eurovision like showing clearly NRK was aiming for something else than the standard Eurovision tune. Four of the ten international juries gave their full marks to JOWST while the other top marks were spread among three ther entries. The top-4 went to a superfinal where most of the televoters also bacled the duo and their Grab the moment , written by Joakim With Steen and Jonas McDonnell. JOWST aka Joakim With Steen (27) is songwriter and producer. He has released a couple of singles, and remixed other artists singles. Alexander Wahlmann (31) is singer and songwriter. The Norwegian final is over, too and the winner is Jowst featuring Alexander Walmann with Grab the moment. The song, as the rest of the Norwegian offering this year, leaves be rather indifferent. After a couple of hearings I don't hate it, it doesn't annoy me, I don't love it.... Let's see whre it lands in the end.... Then I didn't really find any real favorite among them so it's kinda indifferent for me at this point who won. Could have been a lot worse, too, I suppose... Superfinal: 1. Freddy Kalas has found himself in a trouble soon after his participation with Happy rush was published. It seems the chorus is a bit too similar to a song five years ago he was involved in. Fredrik Auke aka Freddy Kalas was close to being disqualified but then the emergency meeting by NRK MGP team allowed him to participate but he must find another song. More details are expected tomorrow. At the same time MGP boss Jan Fredik Karlsen denied this was a promotion move to attract more attention..... 

And the last national final is over. After Swedish heroes Norway has chosen monsters or Mørland & Debrah Scarlett with A Monster like me .  The superfinal included Tor & Bettan with All over the world, superfavorites Mørland & Debrah Scarlett with A Monster Like Me, another superfavorite Staysman & Lazz with En godt stekt pizza and Erland Bratland with Thunderstruck. So, a very variable top-4. Sweden must make changes to its act before Vienna for sure (those backing vocals at least) but Norway would have been a real trouble with several acts, as there were so many people on stage with even superfinal acts Tor & Bettan and Staysman & Lazz. 

DR was supposed to reveal the artists and songs only next Monday but they have leaked from a CD-release - just like in Finland #umk15 songs. Familiar names among the songwriters, like Thomas G:son, Marcos Ubeda and Lise Cabble. Among the artists we have two backing singers for Basim, Andy and Marcel, and Anne G from Junior Eurovision 2003. All this will be confirmed on Monday, with audios. Norway revamped its national selection MGP this year and managed to get a varied group of songs in it. One stood above the rest already from the release of a few seconds snippets, Silent storm by carpenter Carl Espen (32). The contrast with his looks and voice/song makes it very special and he sings it with heartfelt passion. The song is written by his cousin Josephine Winther.  Carl served six months military in Kosovo, does volunteer work for cancer research and works also as a doorman in a rock club. Not your typical EuroBoy is he? Do we have a male version of Marija Serifovic in the making here? Robert : Are we going back to Norway next year? There is definitely a big chance. Silent storm is a beautiful ballad that will capture alot of attention and votes. His personal story as the singer carpenter will certainly also help in the right direction. The national selection season is coming to an end. This weekend the last four national selections and Azerbaijan will reveal its song Sunday as well. Then we have only Austria left for Tuesday release. The one big question mark remains Russia?! .... Norway also selected their entry tonight. There was a Golden Final with the top four and strangely the four I thought did make the final, even if for me there was only one worthy winner: Carl Espen. It's different, touching, authenthic and special the way Marija Serifovic was. I remember hearing Molitva for the first time among the Serbian semifinalists back then and thought " if this wins here, it'll win the whole thing" . I wasn't maybe that right with my predictions of the qualifiers in the Norwegian MGP but then what can you expect if done by listening once the snippets? :-) But I did pick up Silent storm and now it's evident the rest of you has done so, too. Some are talking of it as the future Eurovision winner, but let's wait and see of that. But Norway is all about short titles this year, with the exceptions of El Cuero's rather grammatically challenging and long title. In the end Norwegians got a pretty nice but inoffensive line up. I enjoyed most of the songs for various reasons, exception being Charlie. Oda & Wulff were very entertaining but for all the wrong reasons though. I suspect any of these songs will bother the left side of the scoreboard in Copenhagen if chosen, with the exception of Carl Espen. He just has something that captures you, makes you stop whatever you are doing and listen him. Marija Serifovic proved already sometimes a great song and touching perform...

Second to last Eurovision weekend of the season! We will have four new entries as the host nation Denmark along with Sweden and Slovenia will select their entries. Montenegro will also present its entry. Semifinals in Norway when they have them all three packed together from Friday to Sunday. Belgium has its last one on Sunday and Portugal its only one on Saturday. There are rumors that something could happen also in Russia on Saturday....
