  Here comes the special post vol.1 of #Finpop2024 not in Finnish. First ALMA, one of Finland's most selling artists abroad with a title song from her biopic movie followed by Samu Haber ex-Sunrise Avenue, another mega export artist who has released songs in English after he went Finnish when going solo at first. Then we have Miriam Bryant, that you all know as a Swede. But actually she's a Finn and finally for the first time ever sings in Finnish! Last but not least a groovy song by a trio that includes Axel Ehnström aka Paradise Oskar from Eurovision 2011. Mikko is back with yet another inspirational melodic song. Well done. He deserves a major hit and exposure - even if he already has a very devoted fan base - so what about UMK2020? Everyone in Finland seems to be waiting for her several times postboned debut album (she's been too busy writing song to likes of Miley Cyrus) but here's another great track from it. Quite awesome video for the title track of her debut album. Another one waiting for The Break, and UMK2020 could just be it.... A real earworm from radio waves this summer from the rapping pop legend. 

Four more songs from Eurovision stars of the past Hovi Star released earlier this month self-written Silver spoon , The somewhat angry mid-tempo pop tune showcases a rougher side of his voice. Also Alma offers us anger in T'es pas un homme , a song born out of frustration of men molesting her and other women in metro.  Luisa Sobral has written her Dois namorados herself. Of course. Simple and acoustic love story that lasts for decades.... Polina Gagarina goes up-tempo bubble gum pop in  Меланхолия (Melancholy).  Apparently she tries to beat it with hysteria and anger judging the video....

France's Destination Eurovision is again one of the best national finals with lots to offer in terms of today's radio hits and modern music yet having a clear French sound and enough variety to make it very interesting. Corsican makes a comeback as a possible Eurovision language with Battista  Acquaviva. After three liveshows two semifinals will follow with nine eantries each, four of them advancing to the final after 50-50 televote-international jury. Among songwriters we have last year's Madame Monsier for Bilal Hassani and Alma of 2017 for Naestro, who is my front runner with Emmanuel Moire who I have wanted for Eurovision for years, sadly his song isn't as strong as I'd want it to be. The Finnish Grammys aka Emma awards were handed out this weekend in Espoo's Metro Areena and between performances by likes of Jenni Vartiainen, JVG, Haloo Helsinki!, Antti Tuisku and other cream of the cream of Finnish music business right now the awards were handed out. Haloo Helsinki! picked up seveal ones, as did Cheek and Antti Tuisku. Who is Mercy? Read her story here What is the best way to overcome jetlag but watch some Eurovision? The French final took place last night and took quite a long time but was rather entertaining show anyways as far as I can recall while dozing off a few times ;-p  Each of the finalists performed twice, first with a guest star and then their entry. In the end the international jurors gave out their points before the televoters votes were added, and the voting did keeep up the drama til the end. The international jurors votes went all over the place but in the end Madame Monsieur scored big with the televoters and jumped from the juries 3rd place to a win. Worth noting is Eurovision General Christer Björkman gave them only 2 points underlining what I was thinking myself: Mercy is a lovely atmospheric song, very chich and elegant, very French and I do like it a lot but.... will European televoters get it or will it be lost in the crowd? My guess is it will do a lot poore...

  After two succesful years with Amir and Alma France seems to have found their lost Eurovision identity again, and this year's choice for a national final could have gone so wrong after those two internally selected and hand picked by the new Head of Delegation Edoardo Grassi, mais non! This is propably one of the strongest national final selections this year. This blogger would be ready to send to Lisbon 7-9 of these based on the snippets alone ( click the titles below ), and I would kick out only three of them at this point. Of course, we haven't yet heard the whole songs nor seen the staging and the artists ability to sing live and look good on telly while doing it but.....  At this point my top contenders are Masoe and Nassi, both delivering a song that sounds what French hit music is right now in my ears.  Well done, France! Maybe Marie Myriam, guest of honor in Destination Eurovision will finally see someone take off her crown as the reigning French Eur...

Nazim Khaled , the man behind France's restored Eurovision success with Amir 's J'ai cherché and Alma 's Requiem is now ready to launch his own career with Pourquoi veux-tu que je danse? He has  also written Kendji Girac 's Andalouse , and has worked with Claudio Capèo in Ça va ça va .  He says writing a hit song is not always easy. A good song isn't necessarily a hit but a hit is always a good song, despite what some snobbish people say but one must respect everyone's opinions. He recalls moments when working in the studio with the stars. Alma would sometimes cry after hearing the songs he had written and sung to her with guitar. When Kendji heard Les yeux de la mama , his reaction moved Nazim and Amir has become his brother and close friend. It's September and the Eurovision 2018 season is officially on. I will feature in coming days names that could be in UMK18, if only...... I say if only, as most likely we won't see any of them in there for UMK is profilied as a newcomers contest instead of being our own Sanremo or Melodifestivalen. In short: a major contest all the big names want to take part not only to win but to boost their record sales and score hits. But one can dream, right? I have thrown in some not so known names for variety. Let's go.... Vol.2 (Check out Vol.1 here ) Pete Parkkonen made himself known in Idols finishing 3rd. After two albums in English and one in Finnish - and not really going anywhere - he went on to do some television and won both Dancing with stars in 2014 and Tähdet, tähdet in 2016 and a new sex symbol was born.
