Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Alejandro Reys was the Swiss national final runner up and my favorite with his Compass . Chilean born Alejandro later released the song also in Spanish (check Spotify)

    The Swiss final took place tonight and in a now fuss show the six finalists performed, were voted by this year's curse the international juries and the televoters 50-50. I say curse because it seems to be most everywhere this year all of sudden, and even the same faces and especially people in charge choosing their artists in a way or another are giving votes to their future competitors. It's just a bit weird and akward I'd say. Anyways, big fan favorite Redlights crashed and burned thanks to Vanessa's questionable performance while Reyes did a good job and eventually made his Compass work, even if it still sounds a bit too familiar.... Another fan favorite Zibbz won it with Stones in the end and what can I say? Kinda nice.  The final result was almost identical to the final outcome.... Only televoters preferred Chiara and lifted her up.....

  The Swiss have put some more serious effort to their selection Entscheidungsshow ESC 2018 this year and gone is the open online submission and that nonsense that never worked. Gone are - already years ago - the good old times when the Swiss final had 3 songs in French, 3 in German, 3 in Italian and then one in Romansh. Sadly, only one song ever in that language made it to Eurovision, but it was at homeground in 1989 when Furbaz won with Viver senza tei .  This year songs have been sought from all over, but as often in Eurovision it's the usual subjects among the authors and here there are several among them. I must admit I have no favorite among them, any could do. If Swiss follows this year's trend they will choose Chiara's simple semi acoustic number. Or even Alejandro's little tune. But the  four other have equal chances I suppose. Unless people go crazy for the Symphonix sound and fame, even if the song is far inferier to the two previous ones they have giv...

Switzerland is the next one to reveal their entries. This year they have put a lot of effort with hundreds of submissions and songwriting camps and al sort of things that end up only... err, manufactured nonsense mostly. Not very impressed by the first hearing to be honest. What about next time looking for real songs and not something that fits the formula perfecty - and doing so becomes totally dull?
