OSCARS 2021: GOOD LUCK LAURA PAUSINI!

Tonight's the 93rd Academy Awards show in Los Angeles and Laura Pausini's Io si (Seen) is nominated for the Best Original Song being the very first song entirely in Italian to be nominated! Written by Laura herself with Diane Warren and Niccolo Agliardi the song is from The Life Ahead, a film by Eduardo Ponti starring his mother, legendary Sophia Loren. This is Diane Warrenäs 12th (!!!) nomination  but she's yet to win the Oscar, so it'd be about the time! The song has already won the Golden Globe among many other awards and is pending to win some more.  Laura has released the song in Italian, English, Spanish, french and Portuguese and Italian/English version. PS. As an Eurovision fan I should be probably keep thumbs up for another song but honestly I haven't even seen that film and really don't even care to see it...... The Life Ahead is fantastic by the way! See it!

MOTOWN: DEBARGE - RHYTHM OF THE NIGHT

DeBarge family from Detroit was to become the new Jackson family and released albums for Motown in early 1980's. However, Rhythm of the night in 1985 was their only Top-5 hit, #3, and is more remembered as the song that kickstarted Diane Warren's career and she has became one of the most succesful songwriters ever. The song was  co-produced by Giorgio Moroder.  Soon after song's success El and Bunny signed solo deals with Motown, while the group was dropped after it was evident most of the members were on drugs, except El who had a zero tolerance. A few years alter it was finished altogether when Bobby and Chico were arrested for drug trafficking.... Meanwhile the liaison with Jackson family came reality when Janet married secretly James DeBarge in 1984. The marriage was annulled the year after though. The song charted also well in Europe (UK #4).   Covers include the one by Valeria for Moulin Rouge soundtrack, 911 , and in Spanish by Sophy

Desmond Child in Melodifestivalen

Namely as one of the writers for the new song for Anders Fernette called Run . Fernette's planned entry Don't stop , co-written bt N'Sync's JC Chasez turned out to be breaking the September 1 rule. Desmond Child is along with Dianne Warren (Eurovision UK 2009) one of the most succesful and productive writers and producers in the world penning countless hits to names like Cher , Michael Bolton , Bon Jovi , Aerosmith , Alice Cooper , Kiss , Ricky Martin , LeAnn Rymes and so on. He has also produced the latest album of Finnish The Rasmus .... He has written over 70 US Top-40 hits and sold some 300 million albums. I have always had a soft spot for both Child and Warren as they - unlike most American music today - have catchy melodies and some what European sound and artists that I like. Here are some more songs he has written.

Remembering Laura Branigan

Laura Branigan passed away six years ago today at the age of 47. Her biggest hit in the US was a cover of Umberto Tozzi's Gloria , but in Europe a cover of Raf's Self control . She further recorded Tozzi's Ti amo, and even participated in Sanremo 1991 with Fiordaliso doing Il mare piú grande che c'é / Don't walk away . Her recording career started in 1979 but the first album came out only in 1982 and the Grammy nominations started right on with Gloria . She also scored the first hit for writers Diane Warren with Solitaire and Michael Bolton with How am I supposed to live without you. The Lucky one followed winning the Tokyo Music Festival and she also scored a hit with Carole King cover Will you still love me tomorrow , a nice change from her uptempo songs. She also did I found someone , later a comeback hit for Cher, on the other hand she covered Jennifer Rush's The power of love and made it a hit again. And she recorded Celine Dion's Unison before it...

Mika to follow Lloyd Webber and Waterman?

The annual rumours of Mika's involment in Eurovision are circulating again. When he has been given as the UK singer, when he is quoted of wanting to represant Lebanon if and when they return and this time he is said to be the one to write the UK entry for 2011 following the succesful Andre Lloyd-Webber & Diane Warren and the less succesful Peter Waterman fiasko. Well, it's summer, hot and rumours are flying....

In Moscow 2009: What time is it?

Uk has made a few changes to the presentation as well, and it seems to have been confirmed Andrew Lloyd Webber himself will pretend to play the piano come Saturday. Jade sings her lungs out and it all looks very... well... the same and kinda boring, I'm afraid. But I guess many people will like this sort of thing? http:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=1c_HBhDrnfs

JADE FOR THE UNITED KINGDOM!

Jade Ewen (21) has won the UK talent search Your country needs you and therefor will represant UK in Moscow with My time , a song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Diane Warren. The Twins were second and Mark third. After hearing the song I must say I'm very, VERY disappointed. Standard boring musical ballad. I don't think UK will do any better than recent years. Shame.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dmdZc6kHEc , The Twins version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J0PdlCXCfDw and Mark's: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=95NmuQlaX3Y

UK doesn't need Charlotte

I watched the show tonight and I must say it was very entertaining. Lulu is still fab and it was great to see Diane Warren, too. Of the singers maybe Charlotte was the least promising and indeed she ended up in Danger zone with the Emperors of soul and at that point I was sure Andrew would drop them. But no, Charlotte didn't survive this Danger zone. However I just wonder how the Emperors + Lloyd Webber + Warren + Eurovision mix would sound like? Not good propably.... Yet, as a fan of Motown (Have you checked my new Motown blog yet?) I got to love their voices and harmonies.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR7LDTzqE8I , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0b_ZBDvfSPE , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqHcnNPiSs4 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dUCTslkJ6c , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi1YCxZ3fnE

Diane Warren + Andrew Lloyd Webber = UK 2009

Another big name, a HUGE name enters the Eurovision race as Andrew Lloyd Webber confirms Diane Warren is going to write the lyrics for the UK entry. Most of you will know Diane Warren but if you don't here's some artists who have recorded her songs: Michael Bolton, Natalie Cole, Mariah Carey, 'N Sync, Agnetha Fältskog, Celine Dion, Patricia Kaas, Alice Cooper, Eric Clapton, Chris Isaak, Laura Branigan, Joss Stone, LeAnn Rimes, Gloria Estefan, Bon Jovi, Backstreet Boys, Cher, Jon Secada, Brandy, Mary J. Blige, Elaine Page, Whitney Houston, Taylor Dayne, Tom Jones, Ricky Martin, Westlife, Heart, Belinda Carlisle, Toni Braxton, Cyndi Lauper.... ithe list is like Who's who in music business! She was the first writer to have 7 songs in the US Billboard chart at the same time! Absolute record. For me she's the best. I'm not a big fan of American music, I'm afraid but when I hear something good from there I often discover she's behind it. Just think about How d...
