EUROVISION 2023: BLOGILKAR'S HOME JURY RESULTS: #33 - PORTUGAL - MIMICAT - AI CORACAO

Here it is! The incorruptible, infallible and most reliable Blogilkar's Home Jury made of people in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's, mainly Finnish and mainly those who turn into Eurovision only on that one Saturday night, enjoy the show and that's it. Most everyone heard the songs for the first time so this was a true first impression judgement. And thus they had no idea about the fan polls, betting odds and trivial information and expectations. And boy did they turn those pools and odds around mostly, sinking some major favorites and enjoying some real underdogs. I will countdown the full ranking day by day until we have our winner out just before Liverpool is in full swing. This year I publish very few comments or opinions. Just the average score (we voted 1 to 10). In short this year is considered a bit poor by the jurors compared to for example last year and it may show in the somewhat low scores. Anyways: Enjoy! 33. EUROVISION 2023: PORTUGAL - FESTIVAL DA CANCAO 2023 FINAL REVIEW

Time has come also to find out who will represent Portugal in Liverpool's Eurovision song contest. Festival da Canção has went through the usual semi-finals (read more here and here ) and it's time for the grand final. The finalists are 13 instead of 12 as ín the first semi-final there was some hick up with Esse Povo's voting lines, and they were added to the line up for that. The favorites seem to be Mimicat, Ivandro and Edmundo Inácio, one of the open call winners in the line up. There will be 50/50 regional juries/televote. Here's my new take on the songs after initial reviews (links above), now with the stage performance effects added and maybe a couple of further listenings.  Cláudia Pascoal - Nasci Maria ** Already a rather confusing song has been staged to become even more confusing. It's colorful, a bit fun, a bit crazy and rather entertaining. Only that you forget about the song while you wonder what's happening next and what everything has to do with ...

EUROVISION 2023: PORTUGAL - FESTIVAL DA CANCAO SF 1 REVIEW

Portugal and its Festival da Canção , one of my favorite national finals for doing their own thing and their own music is back again this year and with its already winning familiar formula: RTP invited a number of song writers (15) with free hands to create an entry for an artist of their choice added with entries (5) from the open submissions. Among them Eurovision veteran Cláudia Pascoal from home soil 2018 contest. Two semi-finals with ten songs each, six of them qualifying for the final: first five with 50/50 jury/televote, and one more from the rest with 100% televote.  Moyah - Too much sauce ** From open call. The verses are quite nice rap but the chorus is just nonsense. This is a prime example of streaming/tik tok era songs: just tad over 2 minutes. And in this case it's enough if not too much.  Bolha - Sonhos de liberdade ** Beautiful intro but then ... meh. Orchestration is better than singing or melodies. April Ivy - Modo voo **** As up tempo pop that Portugal ...
