Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Latvia has announced the songs and aertists for 2017 Supernova.Several familiar names among the artists once again from Markus Riva (2014, 2/2015, 2016 to My Radiant You (2014, 3rd in 2016) and Triana Park (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). One is missing though, Aminata the dominator of Supernova 2015 and 2016.... but whoever wins may have to deal with her in Kyiv should she win in Lithuania with Aiste!  The shows start on January 22 and 29 with two introduction shows. Also Latvia's Supernova comes finally to an end. Four songs remaining. Justs is the big favorite and for once I agree with the masses. It's great, and I wasn't even a huge Amianata fan! I also like MyRadiantU and the other two are just for extra flavour here. It's Justs or nothing. After two heats the 20 songs became eight, and tonight the eight become four for next weeks' final. Once again the televoters will send two songs to the final, and then the jury will pick up too from the raimaining ones. In the final there will be only televoting/internet voting. Pretty good selection this year but one shines high above the others: Justs. He's just perfect and sings the song live even better than in studio. Something we can't say sadly of Markus Riva. My second favorite is MyRadiantU. As long as these three make the final I'm happy. And Justs wins in the end. Update: A lot of drama here, too. First Samanta Tina withdraws after her performance and in the end hot favorite Markus Riva fails to qualify. Tbh he wasn't that good this year. Sad but true. The finalist are Justs and Catalepsia thanks to the televotes, MyRadiantU and Marta Ritova thanks to judges. Winning will be even easier for Justs now. And I'm happy MyRadiantU made it, too :-)...

Latvia's Supernova continues tonight with second semifinal. Again four songs will qualify for the final; two thanks to televote and two thanks to jury. Latvia's Aarzemnieki is fronted by German Jöran Steinhauer. He already has Eurovision national final experience from 2008 with Axiina . After a succesful farewell to Latvian lat last year with Paldies Latiņam! this year he and his foreigners have a Cake to bake . Robert : Latvia, in fact, made me angry. Wrong song won! Not that the winning song of Aarzemnieki is not cute but when you have a super song in your preselection which is also nr 1 in the charts, how can you as a nation not vote for it? It beats me. With Dons and Pedeja vestule , Latvia even had a chance to win the whole thing. However, I predict Cake to bake to go to the final also. YES final. Latvia started its Dziesma last night with the first semifinal and the second semifinal is tonight. Happy to see my favorites MyRadiantU, Olga & Ligo and Aarzemnieki all made it to the final, along with Niko, Samanta Tina and Aminata Savadogo.And was there a polar bear on stage? Folk dances? Madonna's We are family choreography from early 1990's? Gaitana's flower headpiece? Latvia's Eric Saade with Daft Punks? Who knows what were in for tonight then? Anyways, pretty good selection! And once again it was proven certain songs were better only be heard, and not seen and performed live.... Latvia will have it's semifinals this weekend. Two semifinals with 12 songs, and six of them from each semifinal will go to the final of Dziesma on February 22, 2014. With a couple of listenings I shortisted my favorites and at this point they are MyRadiantU, Mad Show Boys, Dons, Rolands Udris and Olga & Ligo. Bubbling under are Markus Rivas, Aarzemnieki, Andris Kivics.... Let's wait and see if they will go all the way to the final, and maybe even Copenhagen - I have no idea how Latvians will vote!
