It's September and the Eurovision 2018 season is officially on. I will feature in coming days names that could be in UMK18, if only...... I say if only, as most likely we won't see any of them in there for UMK is profilied as a newcomers contest instead of being our own Sanremo or Melodifestivalen. In short: a major contest all the big names want to take part not only to win but to boost their record sales and score hits. But one can dream, right? I have thrown in some not so known names for variety. Let's go.... Vol.6 (Check the other ones scrolling down) Johanna Kurkela has been around already over ten years, and has even tried her luck in Eurovision with Olet uneni kaunein , making her a household name and fan favorite. Her etheric and fragile voice has often flirted with heavier music, and no wonder: She's married to Nightwish's frontman Tuomas Holopainen. She has provided vocals for his solo album and Sonata Arctica . She has even covered Metallica...

Eurovision 2014 winner Conchita Wurst is headlining Serena Pop & Rock festival in Espoo on August 29-30, 2014. She will be performing the first day. The other stars are (so far) Jenni Vartiainen , Juha Tapio , Kaija Koo , Jukka Poika , JVG , Sanni , Anna Abreu , Roope Salminen & Koirat and Pete Parkkonen . Also Kasmir , Sini Sabotage and Tuomas Kauhanen will be present. More info here .

Italian Eurovision 2011 runner up Raphael Gualazzi goes on strong with his international career in his specific genre and he has released another very nice song indeed, Don't call my name . Summer groove! And on top of that a nice display of lamp shades, something this blogger used to design in the past.... Spanish Bebe will be performing this summer in Helsinki and she's perfect music for summer nights, Mi guapo for example. Can we get her for Eurovision 2014, please? Cheek , the Finnish rapper continues with his megasuccess by covering Taikapeili 's superhit Jossu and featuring another one who has delivered a few summer hits, Jukka Poika . How could they go wrong? They didn't, this is the summer hit 2014 in Finland! Swedish Danny Saucedo has found a new video to show some skin and a rather plasticky summer hit wannabe, Todo el mundo . Love the retro coloring though!

Loreen drops to #3 this week with Euphoria and we have a new #1: Jukka Poika's Älä tyri nyt brings him his second #1 single and confirms him as the king of Finnish reggae. Especially when his new album Yhdestä puusta went straight to #1 this week as well. 

The Emma awards were give out last Friday again and I wrote about them here . But let's now take a look at the category of The Song of the Year. I was surprised Chisu wasn't even nominated in this one, but then she has won it already twice. The award went to Jukka Poika's Silkkii, and I totally agree. In this category the awards have been given out since 1996 under this name, before it there was The Schlager of the year or The composition of the year. And in 1988-1990 there was nothing for some weird reason! It is good to see now that the awards usually have gone to the right address as the songs are still here and alive.  And when the songs turn into English they are usually worldhits. After many weeks a new #1, this time Finnish reggae by Jukka Poika, Silkkii . Ninth week already in the top-20 and finally on top.
