Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  I wrote about Syksyn sävel 2022 semi-finalist that didn't make the final yesterday (here) and tonight's the final, with the most mediocre non-hit making elderly dance hall audience oriented not-music-buying audience ever. For anyone who follows today's music it's just a huge joke to laugh at the music but then again, as written yesterday, maybe it fits with the tv-channel's almost non existing audience. I will sit down and giggle myself sick listening and watching "the show". Here are the finalists: I have a vague idea media is playing for Kurre's win but the gypsy vote (always strong in Syksyn sävel) will go to Leif and Amadeus but in my books clearly the best one out of these is Eija Kantola. By far. Well sung, a proper ageless melody that sounds already a classic. The arrangement is what it is but imagine this with proper strings and orchestra! Syksyn sävel competition is here again. The one that was a real hit machine in the 1970's and 1980's where as the national Eurovision selection Euroviisut was a real let down with songs no one listened and with songs that weren't even recorded by the artists. With a few exceptions of course. Syksyn sävel was where known artists went with their hits aiming for commercial success, a sort of Melodifestivalen in fact. After a break Syksyn sävel has made a couple of comeback attempts but if last year offered a few goodies and was sort of promising effort this year's offering is something else. Several previous hit makers and winners whose career is pretty much gone and dead is trying again after decades but anything different or a bit modern was voted out by the public. A vanishing public I should add as the contest is broadcast on a random small channel aimed for old and religious folks and near bankruptcy apparently. Syksyn sävel may be dead but UMK has been delivering hug...

The moment the news broke (and devided the Eurovision fans all over Europe like nothing ever before except the decision to drop the live orchestra back in 1999) that Australia will be taking part as a competing nation in the Eurovision song contest 2015 in Vienna Kylie Minogue's name was dropped. She'd be by far the most obvious choice. Kylie is known all over Europe, she's pure pop. She's 100% Eurovision. We want Kylie! There is already a petition to make it happen.  There's also a rumour Australia is not paying the participation fee so they can use that money on her, can't they? Kylie has 25 years of career behind her already and 70 million sold records in her sleeve, countless hits and bubbly likablle personality, she can pull a mean show and sing surprisngly well live, witnessed also by yours truly in a Helsinki concert some years ago. Interestingsly her calendar is also free from April to mid-June so it's perfect! 

In our Valentina Monetta competition we asked you to guess the Valentina's placement in the semifinal and now we know it was 11th. As she was a big pre-contest fan favorite, 82% of you got it wrong by placing her in the top-10. Curiously enough, no one placed her first! Nor was she placed last but all spots between 2 and 15 were guessed, the average placing being 6,8.  The winners of the Sammarinese promo single have been privately contacted and informed.
