Finland: A dive into Karoliina's past

Karoliina Kallio (29), the lead vocalist in Waldo's People, started her singing career back in 1990 in TV's singing contest Tenavatähti for kids. She went to art's school and Pop and Jazz conservatory before reappering in various music programmes in TV.  2004 she participated in Euroviisut for the first time with What if  and in 2005 with I need somebody (like you) , before that she had been involved already twice as a backing singer. In 2005 she took part in Idols 2 but was dropped out in semifinals after causing quite a controversy why such an experienced singer was taking part. After that she has been singing solo or with her cover band Flipper before joining Waldo's People in 2008. "I was a fan in 1990's and knew all the songs already. I was thrilled and honoured to join the band" she has told. She released 3 singles in 2003-2004. Kai laulaa saan

Malta 's Euro Showbox 7

All female cast in this Euro Showbox in Malta. It also featured the super favourite Chiara... 01. Alison Ellul - Typical me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2HpUD68zMw Good vocals but the song's heard so many times before it goes by without a trace... 02. Daniela Vella - Soulmate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0ItErs1ASU Soulful ballad with a lot of feeling and atmosphere that Daniela delivers well. 03. Eleanor Cassar - This is our life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=seQzz2GWRdo Another ballad. Eleanor sings well but this might need a few listenings before it hits home. 04. Georgina & Ruth Casingena - Avalon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pN9nFOuXirg Tonight's opera piece, with disco thrown in. Rather tasteless and cheap. 05. Claudia Faniello - Blue Sonata http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4HZARhEbrk Sad and melancholy ballad that Claudia delivers with gusto. 06. Chiara - What if we http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cJqoBuK33w Much noise for nothing. I hope for Chiara's s...

Malta 's Euro Showbox 7

After a little break the search in Malta continues. And tonight's the night every Eurofan has been waiting for. The pressure is on Chiara - already considered a winner by everyone before not a single note of the song has been heard... Good luck! Alison Ellul - Typical me Daniela Vella - Soulmate Eleanor Cassar - This is our life Georgina & Ruth Casingena - Avalon Claudia Faniello - Blue Sonata Chiara - What if we Christine Barbara - Visions of you

Malta 's Euro Showbox 6

Malta's search went on last night and 7 more songs were presented. One can only hope people were busy prepairing for Christmas instead of watching as there's nothing to write home about really. Shame. 01. Jamie Tonna - Where was I? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csbOiZGelok Rather forgettable in every sense. But doesn't he sound like Jim Diamond? 02. Q - Before you walk away http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctvpsfVDaYc The group of 5 vocalists returns. This one's better than their first effort. Rather beautiful melody and they all can sing and their vocals also mix nicely but this isn't going anywhere either.... 03. Julie Pomorski - Shades of memories http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lofYWJzNvb8 Is that her voice or did she have a flu? However, cute little number. Quite likable for some weird reason.... 04. Jessica Muscat - Hey you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_135A2sdbLY The first uptempo song and Jessica gives all she can with her long legs and high heals. The title...

Malta's Euro Showbox 5

01. Miriam Christine - Mama http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMiH2d9KRGA Miriam performs well this self penned anthem to mama magical. Nice but nothing special. And the first of warderobe disasters tonight.... 02. Baklava - Kamikaze Lover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwB4rm03-LY One violinist, who happens to be Joseph Chetcuti who already showed his sculpted pecs on stage in Helsinki backing Olivia Lewis, and two cellists. They forgot to add the vocalist so poor Joseph has to mumble some kamikazes nonsense every now and then. I have only one question: WTF? And I see many comments on chatboards here and there saying this was fab. So, that answers the question how far a nice physique can get one in this business... 03. Ruth Portelli - Blame it on your heart http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENT1gixXxtY Ruth returns with another uncle Ralph song and after kamikazes it sounds very good. Yet, their entry last week was way better. 04. J.Anvil - Choose your number http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

Malta's Euro Showbox 4

The fourth Maltese Euro Showbox proved pretty good songs, with the exception of one, strong vocals and overall a good show, yet letting down a bit. We have already heard 28 songs and none sounds and feels like a possible winner yet.... 01. Ruth Portelli - Innocent heart Nice little tune but I'm not sure if Ruth is the best singer for it. Quite predictable but memorable. The best uncle Ralph song for a long time! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi-sGchdLUw 02. Eleanor Cassar - Someday Not bad song either, but Eleanor seems a bit too agressive for it. Why? On a softer tune this might work nicely, as she can sing well if she wants to... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMoEEWn7elk 03. Dario & Grecia Bezzina - Fjamma tas-Sliem If I try to find something positive very hard about this.... well, it is in Maltese! No further comments. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MvCJh4Hzsvo 04. Claire Caruana - Harmony Not totally wasted this one either but what's it with all this opera this year?...
