Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

  Bruce Springsteen, the future of rock'n roll as someone said back in the day. He's still around and even if I'm not a big fan these days in the 80's a few songs got my attention and I was a fan. A little. To certain songs. Like The River that is beautiful still. It's time to move on from the Motown Golden era, the 1960's to the 1970's. The Temptations had a clearly anti-Vietnam war song War on their album that was becoming very popular. However Motown didn't want to alienate their more conservative fans and re-recorded it with Edwin Starr for the single release, after he volunteered for it as no one seemed to be willing to risk it.  The result is yet another #1 hit for Motown and one of the most known protest songs ever recorded.   Frankie Goes to Hollywood has it on their debut album in 1984,   Bruce Springsteen took the song back to top10 (#8) in 1986. Black Stone Cherry covered the song last year. 

Throw in some gaspel, jazz, doo-wop, soul et voilá: the Motown sound was created. One of the first Motown songs with its then legendary sound, penned by Holland-Dozier-Holland and played by The Funk Brothers. Released in July 1963 the song went to R'n'B #1 and #4 in Billboard charts.  Martha Reeves and The Vandellas scored their first of six Top-10 hits. The trio would go on until 1973 before they went to their separete ways. Several charting cover versions have been released over the years: Linda Ronstadt took the song back to US Top-5 in 1975. Phil Collins charted with it in 2010.  Aliah Moulden , The Supremes , Joan Osborne & The Funk Brothers , The Jam , Cilla Black  and quite a different one by The Floe .  And if we have had previous days covers by The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, this one was covered by The Who  and Bruce Springsteen

Chisu has been the most played artist in the Finnish radios in 2012. Her songs were aired a total of 23.278 times - or there were 2-3 of her songs playing somewhere all the time - and she had three big hits besides the older ones still playing: Kohtalon oma (5.107 being the 2nd most played song of the year beated only by Loreen's Euphoria , 5.574), Tie (4.588) and Kolnas pyörä . Madonna was once again the most played foreign artist followed by Bruce Springsteen, Juha Tapio, late Michael Jackson, Nickelback, Rihanna, Eppu Normaali, Jenni Vartiainen and Bon Jovi. That's for all the radio stations. If we look at only the nationwide ones, Bruce and Michael has to do way to locals Laura Närhi and Samuli Edelmann in top-10.
